Dil was Indra Kumar's second film as director but it was completed and released first before his actual first film Beta (1992).
The song " Dil Kho Gaya" was sampled from Alaap group's " Chunni Udd Udd Jaye". Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria were friends of Channi Singh of Alaap and visited him in England in 1989. When they left they took some of Alaap's cassette tapes with them. They gave the cassette to Anand Milind and told them to remake Chunni Udd Udd Jaye in Hindi. 6 months later Channi Singh heard the song on TV and was shocked. He could not believe that his friends could betray him and take his songs with out his permission. Channi called Ashok and Inder and voiced his hurt and anger. He told them the least they could have done was buy him out and take the rights to the song. 2 years later, Ashok Thakeria and Inder Kumar again took Alaap's song Nach Mundeya and recorded it for Beta. Again they chose not to take Channi Singh's permission to remake the song.
