Sex & Nudity

  • A young, Jewish man has a circumcised penis, which he tries to hide. A Young boy looks out the window while getting up from the Tub, butt and penis can be seen. Something is thrown through the window and he get scared jumps through a window his penis is seen again.
  • Another Scene is him in a bathtub and a man comes in and tries to seduce the boy, feeling up his body while the young man gets scared and jumps out naked running around. Everything is seen and he eventually falls over and his balls and penis are shown for a few seconds.
  • A gruesome scene when the boy tries to reverse his circumcision and ties a string around the tip of his penis which becomes infected and it shows the penis which is graphic.
  • A teenage boy (16) is seduced by an older woman. He appears unwilling but then does willingly have sex with her. No genitals are seen but there is some quite vigorous thrusting.
  • A young man and woman (teenagers) are shown lying together in a meadow. She tries to persuade him to have sex with her but he refuses.

Violence & Gore

  • This film contains numerous war fighting scenes. It would be difficult to catalogue all of them. Key scenes which are particularly violent or disturbing are:
  • One character, a young girl, is killed in a Nazi raid on Jewish homes and her dead body is shown lying on her parents' dining table, surrounded by her grieving family.
  • A boy who was a rival of the main character is run over by a car in quite a graphic scene.
  • In one scene all but one character is killed in some trenches. The shooting is very unexpected and designed to shock. One character's innards are shown quite graphically after he is killed.
  • Hanged children are shown, including a little girl only about 7 years old, with a sign around her neck saying nasty and abusive things.

Profanity

  • There is some swearing in this film. As it is subtitled it does not seem as graphic as when in English (unless you speak German or Russian of course).

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • There are a number of characters shown smoking in this film including teenagers.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The body of a child, who is a character in the story, is seen lying on a dining table.
  • The bodies of young children, a boy and a girl, are seen hanged by the neck with signs around their neck saying abusive things about them. They are Jewish and it is clear that the Nazis have murdered them.
  • There are other scenes where dead bodies are shown. At times the characters are simply walking past, as though this is so commonplace that they do not even react.
  • Briefly, photographs of concentration camp victims are shown, with dead, emaciated bodies piled on top of each other.
  • There are a number of scenes in which it appears the main character is about to be exposed as a Jew and murdered by the Nazis. There is also a scene where the Allied liberators accuse the main character of not being Jewish, and invite a Jewish concentration camp victim to kill him in revenge. The gun is held to the boy's head.
