Sex & Nudity

  • A man drinks his coffee from a mug shaped like a woman.
  • Passing joke about "Playmate of the month."

Violence & Gore

  • The Russian sub's political officer is murdered (death is shown onscreen) in a quick struggle with the captain, but no blood or gore is part of the scene. The shot where tries to breathe, but can't because his neck is broken, can be a little disturbing.
  • Two people get shot with a pistol and show blood stains on their chest and shoulder. One of them dies. Not very gory.
  • Jack shoots a bad guy, but they don't show the bad guy going down.

Profanity

  • Name of "Jesus" is sworn
  • A possible use of the f-bomb in Russian during the climax.
  • 6 uses of "goddamn", 2 uses of "ass".
  • 1 use of Shit
  • A few uses of Hell, Damn, God, and Ass.
  • Three uses of Son of a Bitch
  • One use of Bastard

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • No drugs. Very brief drinking in scenes of meetings between politicians/diplomats, but alcohol is not the focus of such scenes. The Russian engineer smokes cigarettes and offers one to Jack Ryan when he boards the Russian sub. Jack accepts it, but turns green and starts coughing and they all laugh. This is a key plot point to establish trust between the Russians and Americans, as Ryan had previously stated that he didn't smoke..

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The final scenes show the torpedoes chasing the submarines and the explosions which includes the gunshots and pursuit of a KGB agent aboard the Russian sub. The death of the political officer is a brief but moderately intense struggle.
