Everything that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers isn't.
emasterslake7 October 2010
A witch named Bandora has escape from her prison after two astronauts open the seal while exploring on a planet that enters our solar system every some thousands of years. Banza a mystical sage who sealed Bandora must awake the mystic Zyurangers who have been put to sleep for millions of years. With their dinosaur/prehistoric animal mechas, they'll have what it takes to take down Bandora's monsters.

For a long time, I've been curious to see how different this was compared to Power Rangers. And after seeing the whole thing, there's no comparison other than sharing the same themes. Not to mention the story is 60% different from that of Power Rangers. And there is an actual conclusion to it while Power Ranger continued longer than 50 episodes.

I can only remember a little of Power Rangers, so I did recognize some of the footage that was used for that series. Except it was a different experience seeing how it was originally released in Japan.

I don't want to say it's better than Power Rangers. I just find the story to be better and more interesting. Those who disliked Power Rangers being too long will be glad that this one is shorter than power rangers.

Better than Power Rangers
OX_Bigly2 November 2010
I have seen the first 5 episodes (subtitled) and I think it is in every way better than Power Rangers.

The stories are better, granted they might not be Shakespeare but it's a kids show. and for a kids show it's good.

The action was cheesy in Power Rangers Because it's the same footage. But then again it's a kids show.

The way they got their powers isn't explained. It would have been nice but I don't think it's needed. Also the way they got their weapons and robots is better IMO.

Just remember this is the original show. Saban took it and localized it badly.

90% of the time the originals are better than the "remake" Please keep that in mind when the craptastic Smurfs Movie comes out.

Better Done Than The Power Rangers
byson518616 June 2015
I'm old enough to remember when Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was on TV, and man that was 20 years ago. I went from being obsessed with the Power Rangers to no longer watching or caring about them after Season 2 around the time the movie came out in 1995. It seemed that way for a lot of my friends. I mean I remember how in the Halloween of 1994, so many kids including myself at school were dressed as Power Rangers, but the Halloween the year after I only noticed one kid dressed as a Power Ranger. I believe Power Rangers was at it's peak in popularity after the Green With Evil episodes to the second half of Season 2. When that show aired, I did not realize the show was using footage from a Japanese TV show. I did not hear about that until years later. But, I did notice at times even as a kid and more as an adult how the show wasn't always well done. Part of the reason is because the show changes from American footage to Japanese footage, and frequently there were the Zyurangers in scenes not morphed fighting alongside morphed characters, or lots of times there'd be people in the backgrounds of the fights, including kids that they tried to edit out in the American version, but weren't always successful.

I've seen all 50 episodes of Zyuranger, and I can't help but think about reasons why I'd say this show is better than the Power Rangers, and definitely better done. I believe part of the reason I lost interest in the Power Rangers was because the show wasn't well done, and it was predictable, as watching it years later I notice how the show doesn't have much of a plot to it. Zyuranger has more of a plot to the show. There also is more depth to the characters including the Zyurangers, even though we might prefer the characters from the American show over them. There is also more of a story behind the villains and even the monsters that strike. It also is fun watching this TV show as we get to see Japan. You can buy the DVDs subtitled, and if you're studying Japanese it would probably be a fun way to get to learn Japanese watching Zyuranger episodes.

So, while this show is a kids show and it seems like it would be PG-rated, it has a darker atmosphere than the Power Rangers. They edit some of the darkness from this show as lots of things from Japanese franchise gets edited for American audiences such as scenes from another Japanese TV show I really like called Dragon Ball Z, and one of my favorite video games Super Mario Kart where Bowser and Peach would drink champagne after winning the cup in the Japanese version, but not the American version. This show should entertain you more for the darker atmosphere and watching 50 episodes of Zyuranger feels more productive than watching 50 episodes of Power Rangers.

This show is also a little, but not much older than the Power Rangers. It's hard to believe that it's over 20 years old, it doesn't seem that old and it even looks less dated than Power Rangers. Though, if it were done today it would have had better effects.

So, while I as a lot of you think this show is better I wish they said more often at the time, how Power Rangers was from a Japanese TV show. Also, we can wonder what if this show came over to America instead of just using the Japanese footage and if it was dubbed, or even subtitled back then? Would it have done better than the Power Rangers? Oh Well, I guess we will never know.

If you're like me, you'll think of this show as better than the Power Rangers and will be sad when it ends after the last episode. I'm glad to see years later, what my childhood show was based off of.

Imagine Power Rangers, But Much Darker
TheWakingFalcoln10 April 2007
The title says it all.

For those of you who don't know--I didn't, until about a year ago--the footage for the first season of the show "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers," a show that I and many others adored as kids, was only about half original. All footage of the Rangers unmasked or in the Command Center is original stuff, but their fights while in costume is actually footage from this show: "Kyôryû sentai Juurenjâ." Thank God for sites like YouTube, otherwise I might have never been able to see this show. Think Power Rangers, but much darker. Don't get me wrong, it's still a kids show, but an INCREDIBLY DARK kids show. The storyline is much more epic in scope than Power Rangers, and the characters are pretty lovable.

The basic plot is that a couple hundred million years ago, there were five kingdoms (Sharma, Etof, Daim, Risha, and the most prominent one, Yamato), who lived in peace and harmony with each other, watched over by a race of guardian dinosaurs for each tribe. For Sharma, the Mastadons, for Etof, the Triceratops', for Daim, the Sabre Tooth Tigers, for Risha, the Pteranadons, and for Yamato, the Tyrannosauruses. Even the kingdoms lived in harmony with each other, watched over by their God, Ultimate Daizuzyin. All seemed peachy...

Until a witch named Bandora (otherwise known as Rita Repulsa to us Americans) sold her soul to Great Satan--yes, THE Satan--and declared war on the dinosaurs and anyone who aided them. The war was a brutal one that almost wiped out the entire human race and pretty much DID wipe out the dinosaur population. Bandora almost won the war entirely, but each of the kingdom's best warriors were given a sacred medallion of their guardian dinosaur that allowed them to harness Gaiatron energy, the sacred power of the dinosaurs, and become Zyurangers for their respective dinosaurs. Goushi of Sharma became the Mammouth Ranger, Dan of Etof became the Triceratops Ranger, Boi of Daim became the Sabre Tooth Tiger Ranger, Princess Mei of the Risha kingdom became the pteranadon...and the mightiest warrior of the mightiest kingdom, Prince Geki of Yamato, became the Tyrannosaurus Ranger and leader of the Kyôryû sentai Juurenjâ.

When it became time for the final battle, Ultimate Daizuzyin appeared before the kingdoms, sending down a giant robot inhabited by his spirit. The Kyôryû sentai Juurenjâ, together with Ultimate Daizuzyin, banished Great Satan forever and defeated Bandora and her comrades. In the process, though, Ultimate Daizuzyin was split into three different forms--King Brachion, Dragon Ceasar, and Daizuzyin (who himself was the five combined sacred robot avatars of the gods).

Having pity upon Bandora, the kingdoms sealed her away on the moving planet, Nemesis, never to be opened again. As most stories like this go, however, a few idiots end up letting her out in modern times. And also as most stories go, the royalty of the ancient kingdoms predicted this. Therefore, the Kyôryû sentai Juurenjâ volunteered to have themselves put in suspended animation, to be awakened in the event that Bandora ever returned. Baarza the White Wizard, an influential force in the ancient war and a rival of Bandora, volunteered to watch over their bodies over the years to ensure that no harm came to them. It is he who awakens them and then serves as their mentor.

Things later get complicated when it is revealed that a Zyuranger possessing the medallion of the Dragon also exists--Burai, the Dragon Ranger. He too existed in ancient times and he too put himself into suspended animation...but not under Baarza's watch. Because unlike the others, he wanted to survive into the future so he could destroy the Zyurangers and get revenge on them, Geki in particular. Why? Well, it turns out, Geki is not the biological son of the Yamato king. He was actually taken away from his real biological father, the Black Knight (a prominent non-Zyuranger warrior of the ancient war), as punishment for rebelling against the Yamato government. The King of Yamato later killed the Black Knight in person when he tried to get Geki back. The Black Knight swore his firstborn son who he still had, Burai, to get revenge for his death and to become the new King of Yamato. The ancient war ended before he got the chance to prove himself from his training, however.

But wait, notice something? Yep. Burai is Geki's older brother. Doesn't it make sense now why Jason and Tommy always fought in Power Rangers? Or why they later worked together so closely? Yep, that's why.

Okay, now TELL ME you are not AT LEAST A LITTLE curious about this series after reading that plot outline and comparing it to Power Rangers. My suggestion? Get to YouTube right now.

Way better than it's American counterpart
Emphinix16 March 2007
I remember my days as a kid watching the Power Rangers, but when I saw this show last year, I discovered that it was much better than it's American adaptation and it also has a much darker tone than that.

Kyouryuu Sentai Zyuranger is a famous "Super Sentai" series which came to the air in 1992. It grew immensely popular in Japan until it had it's American adaptation in 1993 and they were known as the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers which the battle scenes featured footage from the Japanese series.

If some people who still watch the Power Rangers come and ask me. Which I would chose, I would answer them that I would choose the "Super Sentai" any day.

The differences between this show and the American version are these The zords are colossal robots controlled by the Power Rangers. In Zyurangers, the dinosaurs are gods from the respective tribes of the heroes.

The legendary Tommy Oliver loses the powers of the Green Ranger while his counterpart Burai, dies from the green candle.

In most Sentai series, Yellow Rangers are mostly male while in the Power Rangers most of the Yellow Rangers were female. Boi is Tigerranger, while here in the US, Trini Kwang played by the late Thuy Trang is the Yellow Ranger.

I loved this show and I give this a 10 out of 10

Zyurangers: The original versions of the MMPRS1 Power Rangers
Starfiremyst30 May 2008
"Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger" is one of the Super Sentai shows that is known to us Americans as the original version of "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" Season 1 with no Angel Grove, no Angel Grove Youth Center, no Bulk and Skull, no Command Center, and no Zordon and Alpha 5. You see, "Zyuranger" takes place in the city of Tokyo, Japan, which is getting under attack by the witch Bandora (aka MMPR's Rita Repulsa), who recently sold her soul to Dai Satan (aka MMPR's Lokar) to avenge her son Kai, right after she and her henchmen, Grifforzer (aka MMPR's Goldar), Tottpatt (aka MMPR's Baboo), Bookback (aka MMPR's Squatt), and Pleprechuan (aka MMPR's Finster) from imprisonment by two astronauts.

Bandora's nemesis, the Mysterious Wizard Barza, who wields a scepter that is similar to Bandora's, can disguise himself as an apartment manager working at the Sakura Mansion above his resting place (much like Superman/Clark Kent), and he also serves as an ally to the Zyurangers consisting of Geki/TyrannoRanger (aka MMPR's Red Ranger), Goushi/MammothRanger (aka MMPR's Black Ranger), Dan/TriceraRanger (aka MMPR's Blue Ranger), Boi/TigerRanger (aka MMPR's Yellow Ranger), and Mei/PteraRanger (aka MMPR's Pink Ranger). Grifforzer's wife Lamie/Lamie-Scorpion (aka MMPR's Scorpina) appears later in the show, and so is Geki's brother, Burai/DragonRanger (aka MMPR's Green Ranger).

In each episode, the Zyurangers battle Grifforzer, Lamie, and an army of clay foot soldiers known as the Golems (aka MMPR's Putty Patrollers), and later the Dokiita Golems (aka MMPR's Super Putty Patrollers), as well as the Dora Monsters, and the Zyurangers also battle them with the Guardian Beasts Tyrannosaurus (aka MMPR's Tyrannosaurus Dinozord), ZyuMammoth (aka MMPR's Mastodon Dinozord), Triceratops (aka MMPR's Triceratops Dinozord), SaberTiger (aka MMPR's Saber Toothed Tiger Dinozord), Pteranodon (aka MMPR's Pterodactyl Dinozord), Dragon Caesar (aka MMPR's Dragonzord), and King Brachion (aka MMPR's Titanus) when Grifforzer, Lamie, and each Dora Monster grows to giant size.

These Dora Monsters are not only based on World History, World Folklore (Greek Mythology and such, Fairy Tales we know, etc.), Plant and Animal Life, and such, but they are also classified into three groups: the Regular Dora Monsters, the Dokiita Dora Monsters, and the Zyu2 Dora Monsters. Here's what I remember from them.

REGULAR DORA MONSTERS=Dora Titan (aka MMPR's Giant), Dora Skeleton (aka MMPR's Bones), Dora Minotauros (aka MMPR's Minotaur), Dora Sphinx (aka MMPR's King Sphinx), Dora Goblin (aka MMPR's Gnarly Gnome), Dora Circe (aka MMPR's Pudgy Pig), Dora Cockatrice (aka MMPR's Chunky Chicken), Dora Cockatrice II (aka MMPR's Chunky Chicken), Jin/Dora Jin (aka MMPR's Genie), Dora Argus (aka MMPR's Eye Guy), Dora Ladon (aka MMPR's Snizard), Fairy DonDon (aka MMPR's Mr. Ticklesneezer), Dora Knight (aka MMPR's Knasty Knight), Dora Endos (aka MMPR's Pineoctopus), Dora Pixie (aka MMPR's Babe Ruthless), Dora Tortoise (aka MMPR's Shellshock), Dora Tarantula (aka MMPR's Spidertron), Dora Boogaranan (aka MMPR's Terror Toad), Dora Guzzler (aka MMPR's Spit Flower)

DOKIITA DORA MONSTERS=Dora Franke (aka MMPR's Frankenstein), Zombie Franke (aka MMPR's Mutitus), Satan Franke (aka MMPR's Mutitus), Dora Narcissus (aka MMPR's Octoplant), Dora Reiger (aka MMPR's Madame Woe), Magic Spinning Wheel (aka MMPR's Wheel of Misfortune), Dora Ninja (aka MMPR's Dark Warrior), Dora Ganrock (aka MMPR's Rockstar), Dora Goldhorn (aka MMPR's Samurai Fanman), Dora Silkis (aka MMPR's Weaveworm), Monster Goda (aka MMPR's Fang), Dora Fake (aka MMPR's Cyclops), Dora Antaeus (aka MMPR's Hatchasaurus/Cardiatron), Dora Chimaera (aka MMPR's Goatan), Dora Unicorn (aka MMPR's Polluticorn), Dora Mirage (aka MMPR's Twinman), Dora Talos (aka MMPR's Cyclopsis)

ZYU2 DORA MONSTERS=Goofish (aka MMPR's Goofish), Fleamonster (aka MMPR's Fighting Flea), Jellyfishmonster (aka MMPR's Jellyfish), Mantismonster (aka MMPR's Mantis), Dramole (aka MMPR's Dramole), Bee Monster (aka MMPR's Grumble Bee), Parrot Monster (aka MMPR's Two-Headed Parrot), Peckster (aka MMPR's Peckster), Lysinator (aka MMPR's Lizzinator), Pumpkin Rapper (aka MMPR's Pumpkin Rapper), Speed Shark (aka MMPR's Slippery Shark), Soccadillo (aka MMPR's Soccadillo), Rhinoblaster (aka MMPR's Rhinoblaster), Crayfishmonster (aka MMPR's Commander Crayfish), Oystermonster (aka MMPR's Oysterizer), Piranha Head (aka MMPR's Pirantishead), Pre-Gorilla (aka MMPR's Primator), Galamander (aka MMPR's Salaguana), Flowerbaster (aka MMPR's Bloom of Doom), Octophantom (aka MMPR's Octophantom), HoeSoilBeetle (aka MMPR's Stag Beetle), Venueleon (aka MMPR's Invenusable Flytrap), Robogoat (aka MMPR's Robogoat), MinGuitar (aka MMPR's Guitardo), Turban Shell (aka MMPR's Turban Shell), Pythor (aka MMPR's Pythor)

Overall, "Zyuranger" is the best of the best among other Super Sentai shows being adapted into such Power Rangers shows such as "Zeo", "Turbo", "Wild Force", "Ninja Storm", "Dino Thunder", and such.

Power Rangers can eat it- Zyuuranger rocks!
Odango21 October 1999
As we all know, Power Rangers was created from a Japanese TV show entitled Zyuuranger (Beastranger). Well, the majority. The plot has 5 ancient warriors from dinosaur tribes resurrected to do battle with a sorceress, Bandora, and her henchmen. Bandora hates dinosaurs because of personal reasons dealing with her past and origin of her evil. Anyways, the five warriors are equipped with powers that enable them to become a color coded force known as Zyuuranger. They combat Bandora's wicked Doramonsters with magical weaponry and machines. The series is my fave out of all the sentai I have seen. It's cheesy, but oh wah! Camp is fun. Heh. And let me say that Zyuuranger was very popular in Japan.

The REAL show of Power Rangers
spartandude8722 July 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This is the original Super Sentai counterpart of the Power Rangers. Having watched some of the episodes, I have to say this is FAR better than the Power Rangers in terms of plot and depth. If you want to know what the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was based on, this is it. Unlike in the Americanized version, this version is for more mature audiences as death and tragedy occurs. For instance, in Power Rangers the Green Ranger loses his powers, but later comes back as the White Ranger. In ZyuRanger however, the Dragon Ranger (yes, that's what he's called) dies as a result of his life candle extinguishing. And he simply passes it on to his brother, the Tyranno Ranger (Red Ranger in America). ZyuRanger is definitely worth a shot at looking if you can find a copy of the Japanese-only footage.

I watching this thinking it is cooler to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I want an apology from my family thinking Power Rangers are silly when this show and all Super Sentai related are darker than anything. Anything anime and anything like this is for Adluts not children.

power rangers vs super sentai
justinweithers1 December 2007
its not really a cultural clash between the super sentai and power rangers, its just by using super sentai footage instead of shooting their own it just seems like they are just trying to make a Japanese scene look like their speaking American and also they use the the same scenes more than once, which, in the eyes of some, makes the series seem less impressive. in the episode breaking the spell episode were they free tommy and morph it looks like their standing on a beach and when they are in ranger form, they in the middle of a mountain area which can take the continuity away from the series. but this is American culture, they teach their kids about god and life after death and yet they don't want to show killing on television kid programs. this is where the difference between American and Japanese teaching, in japan they teach kids the consequences of death, destruction and revenge so that the message kicks in at an early age and they don't turn to life of wrong doing. here in the Americanization we just teach kids that aliens or people who are not like us are evil and must be destroyed.if they had done power rangers the same as zyuranger maybe it wouldn't be a bad series in the eyes of so many. culture each day are being compared some think theirs is better than others, but power rangers has its high points, they try to teach kids the value of teamwork and self-respect plus to work hard and take care of your body and mind and to always be strong. lastly they show there always a better way than fighting. nothing is perfect, no matter how much it may seem to be, even culture, but always try to see the high points of something instead of always looking at whats different, maybe we could appreciate something even more, instead of discarding it whenever it becomes to old or something new comes out.however, this is just my opinion how i see it, it may not even be the truth, or it may p.s the music is the most notable thing that separates pr from zyu ranger p.p.s power rangers in space is an awesome story

The Japanese version of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
reddragonhero178 January 2017
I grew up with the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (in fact recently I met 3 of them!) when it first aired, but sadly my interest in the American version waned a bit and then turned into a love/hate relationship. I liked the footage with the fights, but didn't like the cheesy American footage even though I did enjoy the characters. When I first heard of this show coming on DVD I had to get it. It surpasses the American version in every way, the characters are more interesting, a consistent and coherent storyline (some dark moments though), and good messages for everyone. I love these rangers more since they have more believable personality, even the mechas have personality including the megazord (known as Daizyuzin). Parental Guidance is definitely suggested for this one though (see Parents Guide for more details), but other than that it is an enjoyable experience.

My thoughts . . .
frankmcgowan-official18 March 2004
I like Power Rangers, and it wasn't until late in 1996 I became aware of Sentai. Zyuranger from what I have seen appears to be darker that Power Rangers in a lot of ways even though there is a lot of silly humour in Zyuranger. I wish that a lot more Zyuranger footage had been used in Power Rangers, and I wish that the character dynamics had been copied to PR more. Also, I wish that Zyuranger would come out on video for the UK. I have still never seen the first ZYU ep - and I really really want to!!!! Does anyone have any video files of zyu for the first ep that they'd be willing to share? Does anyone know of any cool zyu sites out there or any cool zyu related stories or behind the scenes stuff? Please let me know.

Dino Power
hellraiser721 November 2018
This is my tenth favorite Super Sentai show. Of course, how I knew about this show was from the original "Power Rangers" show, watch this show and that show really makes it a very interesting experience because both are radically different stories but I like that and technically in a strange sense it also means just more sentai series to watch. This show I kind of feel the same way as I do about the "Power Rangers" show, it's good but in its own way.

The story is solid, this Sentai series is a fantasy themed one which I always like and is something I don't feel Sentai shows do enough of. Putting them in the fantasy category fits really well because one of the things I like it how it actually broadens the world the characters inhabit but also give the show a slight adventurous feel which I think is a nice break from the typical defend the city format. The premise I'll admit is a wild idea on Dinosaurs and Humans coexisting and how there use to be some sort of ancient civilization that existed once. I think that's a cool and creative idea, and that's one of the reasons I love the Super Sentai shows finding new colorful ideas and storylines.

Really like the costume and makeup work on the monsters whom are memorable. I like the monsters that are all unique and stay true to the fantasy theme of the show, each of them is all loosely inspired by mythology making this show a little educational. Like one is a Sphinx, Minitour, Serpent Man, and many others you must see to believe.

Action is awesome all well chorographic along with the pyro techniques as this show like any super sentai show has more explosions than a Michael Bay movie. I really loved seeing the Rangers use the weapons to their full potential not just as the Rangers but also when detransformed they also get to use them, the weapons themselves also detransform as they look and have the same potential like any regular weapon. The weapons also have some powers or even other features we get to see like the Blue Ranger's double headed spear can come apart and he's armed with two short spears but of course my favorite it the ax but my favorite is of course the black Ranger's axe which can also act as a gun, that's awesome it's two weapons in one.

The mecha are awesome looking as each of them are unique as they all resemble the dinos each Zyranger represents. Other than seeing the giant mecha robot battles, I also really like seeing the battles when the mecha were separated and utilize the functions of those vehicles. My favorite is of course King Cesar whom kind of looks like "Mecha Godzilla" this mech just has so many cool features, from that drill tail to the missiles that emerge out of the fingertips which is cool.

The characters are solid as each of them have a certain amount of depth well except for Boi and Dan, which is one of the weak points of the show as both are kind of just typical comic relief architypes which I felt was a shame, the fact both characters had not depth was a lost opportunity. Really like how each of them have not just unique Sentai outfits, but outfits when they all go about their daily lives, however it's kind of strange not just that they Zyrangers don't wear regular clothing in public but that the public doesn't seem to notice.

Two of my favorite characters are Geki/Tyranno Red Ranger and Burai/Dragon Green Ranger, both character I really like because they are the most emotionally afflicted. From Geki forced to endure loss throughout the show which is part of what drives him on to fight. And Burai whom as we see also endures loss from time taken away from not just his own brother but his life.

Villains are solid, Bandora she's a villain you love to dislike as she can be funny but have some menace at the same time as we see she is willing to cross potentional lines into accomplishing her nefarious motive which we discover latter one which makes her sympathetic to an extent, but like I said extent. Though my favorite villains are really Griffizar and Lamy whom you may know as Goldar and Scorpina. Really like the designs of both as their cool look with all that armor and those weapons they wield like Griffozar's broadsword and Lamy her curved sword and those powers their weld, both are almost an unstoppable duo. What's interesting about the two is the fact both are a married couple and have a good relationship which is part of why their villains I actually don't hate, your kind of in a way actually want to see both survive despite playing for the opposing team.

And of course, there is the music which to me is one of the best darn soundtracks I've ever heard in TV shows. From some of the music during an episode, the end theme is solid, however it's that theme song that stands out the most for me, it's one of my favorite theme songs of all time, another one on my playlist of TV themes to listen to on my iPod.

There are plenty of memorable episodes from the stand alones to the arcs. One of my favorite stand alone episodes is the one when both the Pink and Blue Ranger turn bad. It's a typical motif done before and "Power Rangers" had an episode like this but this one I think is even better and funnier because we actually get to see both Pink and Blue just do some damage which could get them arrested in the entire country, surprised they didn't. But what also makes the episode stand out is that it's sort of a big homage/parody on the Asian gangster/crime films as we see all the familiar cleches and troupes.

But there are also ongoing episode arcs which in a way is a bit revolutionary since most TV at the time never really had them, this was before shows like "Once Upon a Time", "Game of Thrones", etc. which have all utilized them. The arc that really stands out in the series is the one between Geki and Burai which is touching and tragic, it really put a tear in my eye because Burai/Green Zuranger is one of my favorite characters, like Geki I didn't want him to die and we see thorough this deadly ordeal Geki and even Burai are racing against time to find some sort of solution for Burai's condition but just as the candle burns down so does all hope. I really liked this arc because it just goes to show how human the characters truly are.

Though like any dino hunt gone bad this show is not without its missteps. Some of the comedy in the show doesn't work, can be really cringe inducing in places. Though same can be said for a lot of super sentai shows and sitcoms, comedy can be a hit or miss affair and it's the hits that count the most, so I can't complain too much.

The actress Reiko Chiba that plays Mei I though her performance was kind of off in places, mainly in some of her line deliver where it really hits a wrong note with me. Not to say she's a bad actress as time went on, she really did improve, but at the time she probably should have had more training.

But those two are small quibbles, my major one is the child of the weak episodes which are a bit much. These episodes really hold the show back from utilizing it's full potentional, let alone I honestly feel it's a cliché in Sentai shows that needs to die. One of the things I hate about those kinds of episodes are they how they divert focus from the characters, the kids in them I honestly didn't care about I thought they were annoying as they fall into all the stereotypes, but worst of all the kids can't act, when they convey emotion you can easily tell it's fake. Just select the episodes where kids aren't anywhere in sight, to me those episodes are when the show really works best because the focus is on the featured characters whom we all really tune in for.

If you're into vintage Sentai shows this show is a focil worth uncovering. Zyuranger roars with excitement and stomps with entertainment.

Rating: 3 and a half stars

Way better than Americanise crap!
Akiosan23 February 2003
The origin of the sentai shows goes way back over to 1976, and were hit in Asia. The Sentai shows that the power rangers ripped off in 1993 is known as jyuranger sentai which debut in Japan and Asia several year earlier. The difference between Sentai and power rangers is that at least sentai is watchable and fun. The characters in the Sentai series weren't silly teenagers, but rather, heroes from unknown civilization who could transform themselves into Dinosaurs or mechanizm when necessary. The show was also geared for big kid audience as well.

In sumer of 1993(?), a kid's television producer from America decided to bring the Sentai show to the Americas, al beit with awful, silly teenagers, rather than people of mysterous origin. The power rangers are completely ridiculous, (A couple of them can't even fight, they just do these silly gymnastics!) as opposed to the Jyurangers who are true martial artists. Plus, they gave Boi a sex change (and he is hot!).

If you have to see japonese sentai/superhero shows, see original japonese version and not america versions.

P.S. Boi and Dan are HOOOOOOOOOT! And Mei is way morep pretier and more detirmened than Kim.

I want my life back.
tk-1113 January 1999
After seeing this awful show, I want every second that I spent watching this garbage back. The story is boring, the acting is bad, except from Yuuta Mochizuki and the Bandora actress. The effects are worse than the first Godzilla movie, and the action is as bad as a B action movie. In fact, this is a B tv show. I can see why it's not popular in Japan.
