Storyline

Topper Harley is found working as an odd-job-man in a monastery. The CIA wants him to lead a rescue mission into Iraq, to rescue the last rescue team, who went in to rescue the last rescue team who... who went in to rescue hostages left behind after Desert Storm. The President is Tug Benson, who also likes to be in on the action. Basically, it's a send-up of all the big shoot-em-up Rambo/Robocop/T2/Commando-type movies. Written by Rob Hartill

Trivia

Later in 1993, Charlie Sheen played Aramis in The Three Musketeers (1993). That role was previously played by Lloyd Bridges in The Fifth Musketeer (1979), which also featured José Ferrer as Athos. Miguel Ferrer also appears in this film. See more »

Goofs

During the presidential groundbreaking ceremony, all presidents but President Ford get hit by Benson's shovel. Despite being uninjured, he also collapses to the ground. This probably is not an error, but a reference to Gerald Ford's history of accidental falls during his presidency, especially as the actor playing him says "Whoops!" immediately before falling over. Quotes

President Thomas 'Tug' Benson: Gotcha! Listening at the door, huh? Well, Walters, looks like we've got our saboteur.
Col. Denton Walters: That's your wife, sir.
President Thomas 'Tug' Benson: Yeah, so it is. Lavinia. You're looking as lovely as the day we met.
[to Walters]
President Thomas 'Tug' Benson: Find out what she knows.

Alternate Versions

The film has had a checkered UK censorship history. For its original cinema release, 54 secs were cut for a 12 certificate, removing all footage of nunchakus during the Rambo scene and editing the spoof Basic Instinct sex scene in the apartment. The video was rated PG and the cuts were expanded with a further 1 min 7 secs of additional edits to remove a single use of 'fuck' and the complete removal of the bedroom scene. The same print was used as a basis for the PG-rated DVD, although the distributors made a further two minutes of edits including the removal of Ramada's line "Wild, free, passionate, unbridled sex. I'd fondle you in ways you can't imagine" and even the already PG approved scene in the limousine. The UK Blu-ray version reinstates the previously cut footage and was passed 12 uncut in 2013. A little over the top, but it's all good
30 November 2006 | by Smells_Like_CheeseSee all my reviews

After being really happy with the first Hot Shots, I was excited to see the next and I have to say that Part Deux was still a ton of fun. Despite the fact that I know that this film may be a little silly and over the top with the jokes, it still was a lot of fun to watch. I think everyone needs an outrageous comedy here and there. Charlie Sheen is an absolute blast to watch, this time, they are taking on Rambo, Predator, Commando, Basic Instinct, and many other references.

Topper is asked to come back to save a bunch of American soldiers captured by Saddam Husain, but he has been dumped by Ramada and starts a steamy affair with a CIA agent who gives him her mole for luck. When he sees Ramada on the mission due to sequel casting, they stick together and the team puts in their best and saves the soldiers from the wacky dictator.

Hot Shots Part Deux is a lot of fun for certain people, like me, who enjoy these zany goof ball comedies. I really do prefer this kind of comedy to many I've seen today where it's more shock than originality. The Hot Shot movies are so much fun and I would recommend these movies for anyone. Just sit back and have fun with these comedies, I think you'll have a good time.
