Sex & Nudity

  • Very brief second As a woman is helped out of the precarious elevator by Jack and Harry, her dress gets accidentally hiked up and we briefly see a thong exposing most of her bare backside. It can be easily missed if you're not paying attention.
  • Harry says he will go home and have sex. This is played for laughs.
  • Several characters passionately kiss. There is no sex or nudity, just mild talk of sex and some chemistry between Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock.

Violence & Gore

  • A man forcefully pulls another, wounded man up off the floor
  • Payne makes semi-graphic taunts to Jack by saying he will get a medal if he "picks up all the bus driver's teeth." He also says that the police will have to pick up someone's remains "with a sponge."
  • The film is loaded with explosions and gunplay, but not too much blood. And, there is the constant fear of disaster.
  • One of the most gruesome scenes is of a security guard being stabbed in the head. In another scene, one of the bus' passengers drops through the floor of the bus and is killed. The body is shown being tossed around the freeway for a second or two.
  • A brutal fight on top of a subway train causes one man's head to be ripped off violently.
  • PG-13 level of violence.
  • A man gets stabbed viciously in the side of the head through the ear with a screwdriver by Payne. Some blood spurts out, but it's brief and not too graphic. Later, when the man falls dead, the whole side of his face and head is covered with blood (not graphic).
  • Harry is shot in the leg purposely by Jack.
  • A bus explodes with the driver in it.
  • Sam is shot in the shoulder while driving a bus
  • Several people have cuts and bruises.
  • A man gets shot in the back by Payne several times while driving a subway train.

Profanity

  • 1 use of "cojones" which is a vulgar word for testicles in Spanish.
  • A few F-words, and about half a dozen scatological and anatomical references.
  • 1 use of "pr-ck".
  • 15 uses of "f-ck".
  • 30 uses of "sh-t" (2 paired with "bull").
  • 3 uses of "son of a b--ch".
  • 3 uses of 'bastard'.
  • 3 uses of "God", 6 uses of "Jesus", and 1 use of "Christ" as exclamations.
  • 1 use of "hell".
  • 10 uses of "damn" (7 paired with "God").
  • 3 uses of "a-s" and 4 of "a-shole".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • At a gala held for the two police officers, attendees formally drink champagne. Both of the officers clearly get drunk at the end of the party. Several other people drink alchohol and a few people smoke there at the party.
  • Payne drinks beers while watching the news of a bus rigged to explode if it slows down on TV.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There are sensational crashes, thunderous explosions, vicious hand-to-hand combat sequences, valiant maneuvers aboard a bus, on top of a moving train, in an elevator shaft... nonstop suspense-filled feats of bravery to combat the nonstop evil of a brilliant, but unhinged, villain.
  • The opening rescue sequence can be pretty intense. There are several instances with many characters that almost result in death or bodily harm.
  • The tone of the film is dark and intense.
  • The whole film is full of deadly peril, which can be frightening, suspenseful and intense to teens and children, as the plot is about a bus that will blow up if it travels under 50 mph after it travels at over 50. That means the bus must desperately careen throughout the city, unable to slow down for anything with a high risk of collisions of all varieties.
