Sex & Nudity

  • A young girl goes into a forbidden room. There are some old paintings on the wall (like what you would see at museums) depicting fully nude females. The scene is fairly brief.
  • A man and a woman are shown kissing and flirting with each other on a bed. Later, the same man and a woman are shown going into a room to bathe. He starts to take her robe off but nothing further is shown.
  • Manuel is seen shirtless several times. In one scene he is bathing unclothed in a river, but the camera angle doesn't show anything explicit.
  • Several scenes of kissing.
  • Two men attempt to sexually assault Annabella. One man starts kissing her lustfully and puts his hands under her clothes. The other man approaches her but she forcefully pushes him away and runs out before he can do anything.
  • Discussion of prostitution and Annabella's illegitimate birth. The words "whore" and "bastard" are used a few times in the first two episodes.

Violence & Gore

  • Annabella's father forcefully strikes a servant in the stomach. He also slaps his wife, shoves another servant, and throws a man to the ground. The two scuffle briefly but they are stopped before they can continue.
  • There are a couple of scenes of boxing. One of the fighters is quite bruised and bloody.
  • Manuel is involved in a scuffle with a man who calls him by a racial slur.
  • Two men fight by the bank of a river. One throws a few punches and the other punches him once, causing him to fall to the ground.
  • A man attempts to sexually assault Annabella but she forcefully pushes him away and he does not chase her. Another man forcefully grabs hold of Annabella and places his hands under her clothing. Manuel sees this and pushes the man away from her, than hits him forcefully and throws him to the ground, where he is buried under bags of fertilizer.

Profanity

  • Occasional uses of the terms "whore" and "bastard" in the first two episodes, though the use of these words is generally in keeping with their original meanings and not used as insults.
  • Occasional usage of the words "damn" and "hell".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • There are two scenes of alcohol being served at a party. In one scene Manuel gets drunk and has to excuse himself. In another scene, a man who is shown to be drunk later on tries to sexually assault Annabella.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The scenes depicting boxing are somewhat bloody.
  • The scenes depicting attempts to assault Annabella may also upset some viewers. The first scene is not explicit but the second one shows a more prolonged attempt, with Annabella repeatedly screaming for Manuel to come to her rescue. He does so fairly quickly.
