When Universal Pictures' plan for an McU-style "Dark Universe" fell apart, Blumhouse wasted no time putting its own spin on those iconic movie monsters. The Invisible Man was among the first and received rave reviews before grossing $144.5 million worldwide on a mere $7 million budget.
While filmmaker Leigh Whannell has since moved on to Wolf Man, there's been chatter for years about him helming a sequel revolving around Elisabeth Moss' "Invisible Woman."
The movie ended by teasing a vigilante-style follow-up and both Jason Blum and James Wan have left the door open to it becoming a reality in previous interviews.
Unfortunately, Whannell doesn't seem overly interested and closed the door on stepping behind the camera for The Invisible Woman while talking to The Hollywood Reporter (via FearHQ.com).
"An ending is the hardest thing to do in screenwriting. It’s the holy grail of screenwriting, and I revere movies with great endings.

While Elisabeth has previously expressed interest in doing a sequel, Leigh says it won’t happen.

Brad Pitt’s career is like an open invitation to a star-studded dinner party where every seat is filled with iconic roles, juicy scripts, and unforgettable performances. One minute, he’s the charming, smooth-talking con artist in Ocean’s Eleven, the next, he’s the tortured soul with an existential crisis in Fight Club, and in Troy, he’s not just conquering the Colosseum, but stealing hearts like a true Hollywood gladiator.
He has dipped his toes into every genre, from heart-pounding thrillers to intimate dramas, and made each role feel like a tailor-made suit.

Even the brightest stars, it seems, need to take a pause now and then, casting a reflective gaze upon the roads they didn’t take. In fact, Pitt’s career is also laced with “What If?” moments—those iconic roles he could’ve had but walked away from.

It has been over two decades since Denzel Washington screamed ‘King Kong ain’t got sh*t on me’ in the legendary Training Day. The Antoine Fuqua directorial got Washington his second Oscar after he had previously won for Glory. The film was also a commercial success and the legendary combo was set to reunite for an epic gangster film again.
Alas, the workings of Hollywood do not always make way for dreams and Fuqua had to give up his dream of crafting his incredible gangster film with Washington again. The filmmaker mentioned how heartbroken he was after his version of American Gangster was shelved. The film ended up being made by Ridley Scott with Washington in the lead.

When Denzel Washington agreed to star in 2001's "Training Day," his casting attracted some controversy. The issue, it seems, was that the esteemed actor had never played a villain at that time, and the NAACP was adamant that he not squander the good will he'd accumulated over the past decade or so by doing so. For Denzel, however, showcasing his diverse talent overrode any obligation to maintain his clean cut public image, and the star not only proved he was more than capable of playing an antagonist, but won his second Oscar for the effort. All of which makes one wonder about a parallel universe version of Denzel's career — one in which he agreed to play a lead role in David Fincher's "Se7en" back in 1995.

Denzel Washington isn’t just an actor, he’s a walking masterclass in how to own the screen. When he steps into a role, it’s game over, because the guy doesn’t just act; he becomes the moment. The dialogue? Electrifying. The presence? Unmatched. Now, pair that kind of energy with Ridley Scott, the visionary behind epics like Gladiator, and you’ve got a cinematic duo that’s hard to beat. That’s exactly what happened with American Gangster.
Playing Frank Lucas, the smooth yet ruthless drug kingpin, Washington didn’t just deliver a performance; he created a legend. Every glance, every word dripped with confidence and danger, making everyone watching think, “This guy runs the world, hands down.”

In Hollywood, several new directors face rejection from big stars because of a lack of trust and other factors involved in making a film. Denzel Washington, one of the veteran stars of the industry, came to regret his decision.

As Rick and Ilsa taught us all too well on that fateful runway, there are few things more powerful than a heartfelt farewell. To provoke applause from the audience -- or, better yet, that stunned and contemplative silence as they watch the credits still submerged in the final moments of a story well told -- it is critical that a film nail its ending.
Whether through the unveiling of some mind-blowing twist, a sudden insight that changes the way you see the story, or a simple but powerfully human moment earned between two characters, the last sequence of a movie has the capacity to shape your understanding of all that came before -- in and out of the theater. As such, we've taken great care in compiling some of our favorite movie endings of all time, ranking them based on quality, impact, and cultural staying power.

David Fincher’s Se7en is a movie that people still can’t stop talking about, even years after it first came out. The dark thriller, starring Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Spacey, has a shocking ending that has led to plenty of fan theories. One of the most interesting claims is about a connection between Se7en and Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion.

When David Fincher directed “Se7en” in 1995, his reputation was strangely bifurcated. On the one hand, he was a supremely successful commercial and music video director at the top of his field, having helmed innovative and influential shorts for icons including Madonna, Sting, and Rick Springfield. On the other, his one attempt at feature filmmaking, “Alien 3,” had been a bust — a critical disappointment liked by virtually no one, including Fincher himself. Although it has since developed a bit of a cult following, Fincher disowned “Alien 3” and famously said that he’d rather die of colon cancer than direct another movie.
Luckily for him, and for us, Fincher changed his mind when he came across Andrew Kevin Walker’s script for “Se7en,” a perfectly calibrated blend of intellectual philosophizing and pulpy exploitation that ended up beautifully served by Fincher’s unerring ability to push the psychic trauma the story inflicted...

Good storytellers understand that realism doesn’t mean that the storytelling needs to be the most boring thing imaginable, while the worst storytellers make the mistake of associating blandness with realism. For example, David Fincher is probably one of the best directors working right now who has delivered some of the greatest crime dramas ever, e.g., Se7en, Zodiac, and Mindhunter. Now, Fincher rarely resorts to over-the-top action or melodramatic acting to spice up his narratives. He usually keeps things low-key, to the extent where some accuse his work of being “emotionless,” and yet manages to keep things engaging and thrilling. And even when some of his stories don’t reach a cathartic and climactic conclusion, the journey feels worthwhile. The same can be said about Memories of Murder, Blow Out, The Silence of the Lambs, Insomnia, The Long Goodbye, Ugly, Dahaad, and more. Then there’s this year’s The Breakthrough,...

By 1995, David Fincher was an acclaimed music video director whose studio-micromanaged and -mangled foray into feature filmmaking (1992’s Alien³) proved so exasperating and humiliating that he nearly swore off of making full-length movies ever again. But upon being sent a script about a serial killer who commits a series of gruesome, elaborately staged murders, Fincher found himself sufficiently intrigued to take on the project but only if New Line Cinema didn’t compromise the bleakness of the material. He got his way, and a filmmaker seemingly bound to retreat from Hollywood subsequently emerged as one of its brightest stars of the decade.

Using AI in filmmaking is controversial because it could replace human jobs and creativity, raising concerns about actors, writers, and crew losing work. Some worry that AI might make creative choices that lack the emotional depth and personal touch of human filmmakers. There’s also a fear that relying too much on AI could lead to repetitive and less original films.
While these concerns are understandable, one positive use of AI is for fixing mistakes in older films without affecting new releases. David Fincher recently explained how he used AI to fix a small camera error in a bar scene for the 4K and IMAX release of Se7en.
The camera had followed a character too late, showing more of the bar than intended, and Fincher took the opportunity to correct this mistake in the updated version of the film.

Film marketing maven Chris Pula was laid to rest this morning at a funeral held in Wellfleet, Massachusetts. A memorial for his Hollywood friends is being arranged for down the road by friends who worked alongside him in the heyday years at New Line. The closing lines of David Fincher’s 1995 crime thriller Se7en reveal the bleak yet humane position that Morgan Freeman’s Detective Somerset takes after he witnesses a truly heartbreaking moment with his partner Detective Mills, played by Brad Pitt. Freeman says, “The world is a fine place and is worth fighting for. I agree with the second part.”

David Fincher has revealed how artificial intelligence helped enhance the upcoming 4K remaster of “Se7en,” his landmark 1995 crime thriller starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman.
In a new interview with EW, Fincher explained that AI technology helped fix previously undetectable issues. “Throwing this new kind of technological firepower at stuff was, for me, really revelatory,” Fincher said. “We ran into things that heretofore had never been noted. I mean, shots that were fundamentally out of focus that you couldn’t read on film and couldn’t read even in HD.”
Fincher added: “And then you get to 4K downsampling of the 8K scan. And we did end up going in and doing little split screens and using AI to sharpen things so that we could reestablish what was intended to be looked at.”
The remastering process took over a year, with Fincher noting it “could have been twice that” if left to his own devices.

Do you want to feel old? The acclaimed crime thriller often stylized as "Se7en" celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, ringing in 2025 with a re-release in IMAX locations that those who haven't had a chance to enjoy in theaters simply won't want to miss. That milestone also means that those of us of a certain age have spent the better part of three decades reciting one oft-repeated refrain every chance we had: "What's in the box?" If you've never seen the influential David Fincher noir and somehow remain blissfully unaware of what actually goes down in the film's heart-stopping climax, well, this is your cue to leave right now and avoid spoiling one of the biggest filmmaking twists of the 21st century for yourself.

For many people, using artificial intelligence in any form is like breaking one of the seven deadly sins. That group might not be happy when they learn that director David Fincher used AI to work on the 4K restoration of his classic “Se7en.”
In an interview with EW, Fincher ahead of the film’s 30th anniversary spoke at length about using AI to help with the restoration process, and why any discussion about generative artificial intelligence shouldn’t be so black and white as just being for it or against it.
Fincher noted that he’s done a digital version of “Se7en” twice before, once for the film’s DVD after its initial release in 1995, and again to bring it into high definition. But he said he underestimated just how much work went into again bringing it up to quality for a 4K version and that his team didn’t...

Tarsem Singh’s The Cell came at the end of a trend of 1990s noir films that merged the conventions of the genre with the aesthetics of music videos. Tarsem himself cut his teeth making music videos, most famously for R.E.M.’s “Losing My Religion,” and his first feature at times feels like an assembly of images that strives primarily for visceral impact, throwing cohesiveness to the wind.

Armie Hammer recalled his working experience with one director who produced great thrillers with the likes of Brad Pitt. David Fincher is often labeled as a perfectionist on his film sets and he can be pretty difficult to work with at times. Hammer shared that working with Fincher was very scary because of the director’s exceptional filmmaking skills.

In 1995, a few years removed from the critical failure of his debut feature "Alien 3," David Fincher unleashed his second feature film onto the world and proved himself not just a formidable filmmaker, but one of the industry's most promising new voices. That film was "Se7en," featuring Morgan Freeman as veteran detective William Somerset and Brad Pitt's eager detective David Mills. The two are paired together to investigate a series of brutal and twisted murders inspired by each of the seven deadly sins, and thanks to a downright iconic ending scene, "Se7en" has maintained a reputation as one of the greatest crime thrillers of all time.
Recently, Collider's Perri Nemiroff interviewed Fincher about the film 30 years later, and the changes that were made for the new IMAX and 4K physical media releases. Nemiroff noted that Fincher had previously...

While we’re eternally grateful to the likes of Chris Columbus and Alfonso Cuarón, who transformed J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter novels into stunning visuals, there were several other directors eyed for the project, who ultimately lost or gave up the offer. One among them was the visionary filmmaker David Fincher, known for his cult classic Fight Club.

Given his decorated career spanning over three decades, David Fincher was initially considered to direct the Harry Potter films. But surprisingly, after he pitched his take on the material, Warner Bros. never moved forward with him. Now, in retrospect, we’re more than glad for the way things turned out because Fincher’s take on Rowling’s novel was rather “creepy”.

David Fincher is already making headlines in 2025 as he prepares to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his 1995 thriller, Se7en, with a 4K restoration on Blu-ray on January 3. Before tackling the grim and gritty world of a deranged serial killer, Fincher shot music videos for artists like Madonna, Paula Abdul, Steve Windwood, Gypsy Kings, Billy Idol, and others. His moody and atmospheric style was too unique to be remanded to music videos alone, and with 1992’s Alien 3, Hollywood had a new premiere filmmaker. Learning about Fincher’s filmmaking methods is something aspiring filmmakers and fans love to experience, and thanks to Collider‘s Peri Nemiroff, we know where Fincher’s head is at with the restoration of Se7en, a film many consider a pillar of the crime-thriller genre.

The wizarding world of Harry Potter could have looked a bit more like “Se7en” if a certain meeting had played out differently.
In a new interview with Variety, David Fincher recalled taking a meeting with Warner Bros. about directing a film in the “Harry Potter” franchise. The director explained that his vision for the series would have leaned into the darker elements of J.K. Rowling’s books.
“I was asked to come in and talk to them about how I would do ‘Harry Potter,’” Fincher said. “I remember saying, ‘I just don’t want to do the clean Hollywood version of it. I want to do something that looks a lot more like ‘Withnail and I,’ and I want it to be kind of creepy.’”
Fincher said that Warner Bros. was more interested in the warmer aspects of the books, so he never became involved: “They were like, ‘We want...

Cartoon Network fans are starting 2025 on a sour note as several beloved animated series have been removed from Max.
Just last month, it was announced that four popular DC animated series—Teen Titans, Teen Titans Go!, Static Shock, and Green Lantern: The Animated Series—would leave the platform by the end of 2024. True to the announcement, these shows disappeared from Max’s library after December 31. But it didn’t stop there.
As of January 1, more fan-favorites have also been removed, including Ed, Edd n’ Eddy, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, The Looney Tunes Show, and the first seven seasons of Teen Titans Go! While the show’s eighth season remains on Max, fans hoping to revisit earlier episodes will have to look elsewhere, like Hulu, where some seasons are still available.

Namely, Teen Titans, Teen Titans Go!, Static Shock, and Green Lantern: The Animated Series are no longer available after December 31. However, it seems that those were not the only projects removed from Max’s library starting January 1.
Among the notable titles now missing are the first seven seasons of Teen Titans Go!, the original Teen Titans, Ed, Edd n’ Eddy, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, The Looney Tunes Show, Static Shock, and Green Lantern: The Animated Series.

Brad Pitt has starred in many iconic movies over the years. Be it a serious project like Inglourious Basterds or a fun film like Ocean’s Eleven, he seems to have at least one iconic work in every genre. However, one film has gotten him more attention and acclaim than most.

Everyone can agree that Kate Winslet was absolutely perfect as Rose in Titanic. Back then, all the boys wanted to date her, and all the girls wanted to be her. She looked breathtakingly beautiful in the movie, and the performance she delivered was nothing short of phenomenal.

She even managed to convince the entire world that there wasn’t any space left on that wooden door at that pivotal moment. But turns out there was a chance that MCU actress Gwyneth Paltrow could have played Rose instead of Winslet.
Titanic almost had Gwyneth Paltrow as Rose instead of Kate Winslet!
Some movie roles become so iconic that it’s nearly impossible to imagine anyone else playing them. Titanic is a perfect example, cementing Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as Jack and Rose in the hearts of audiences everywhere.

Why Did Denzel Washington Turned Down Brad Pitt’s Role In Se7en? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Imagine this: fresh off Malcolm X and Philadelphia, Denzel Washington could’ve starred in Se7en. But instead, he turned down the role of Detective Mills, and Brad Pitt stepped in, forever cementing his place as a leading man in Hollywood. Washington’s reasoning? Simple: he thought the script was “too demonic.” Fast forward, and while Denzel still regrets passing up the opportunity, we’re all left wondering what might’ve been.
Washington’s “no” to Se7en wasn’t because he was dodging dark material (he’d already taken on heavy roles like Glory). No, it was about the intensity of the script—the whole seven deadly sins thing just didn’t sit right with him. According to Collider, the story felt too grim for his taste. The actor told Jamie Foxx in a 2014 interview.

Should you ever need to give your watchlist some extra oomph, you can't go wrong by referring to IMDb's Top 250 list, which includes some of the best movies that cinema has ever had to offer. The great thing about such a mammoth pile of films is that icons of Hollywood will be popping in more than one entry on the list. Of course, some stars have a greater presence on this compendium than others, and while it might not shock many as to who has the most entries, it's surprising to see who the runner-ups are.
Coming in at the number one spot with the most films in IMDb's Top 250 is the man many believe to be perhaps the best actor ever -- Robert De Niro. Having appeared in over 100 films, nine of De Niro's projects rank among the website's most beloved 250: "The Godfather Part II," "Goodfellas,...

The ending is the most important part of a movie. It is what creates the effects and emotions the audience is left with. Some endings imprint themselves on viewers’ minds and some continue to amaze audiences no matter how much time has passed.
Movies with cliffhangers and shocking endings that keep the audience on the edge of their seats are hard to come by. With their twisted narratives and layered plotlines, these movies make the viewers question what they think they know. They progress subtly, until the final jaw-dropping scene changes everything and has one thinking about it for days.
The ultimate element of surprise can truly make or break a film. Sometimes, a movie’s performance can be judged on how impactfully it leaves one stunned. Hence, here is a list of movies that can potentially leave one scratching their heads; ranked from better to best.

A smattering of well-known classic titles are now on their way to the crisp realm of ultra-high-definition physical media. Bill Hunt of The Digital Bits has just unveiled a number of movies that have been announced to release in 4K Blu-ray early next year. We’ve reported earlier that the Pierce Brosnan/Linda Hamilton volcano film Dante’s Peak is set for a February 11 release, the same day will also see the 4K Uhd release of Howard Deutch’s teen comedy Pretty in Pink (1986). It is said to feature Dolby Vision Hdr and a new “Filmmaker Focus” featurette.
It has also been confirmed that Disney, who is the parent company of the Buena Vista label, has completed a 4K restoration of the Michael Bay 1997 disaster blockbuster Armageddon. On December 6, the Bruce Willis asteroid movie is set to screen in this remaster at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles as part of An Evening with Diane Warren.

In 1995, David Fincher pivoted from making a "Blade" movie and instead gave us one of the best neo-noir crime dramas of all time. "Se7en" follows Morgan Freeman as Somerset, a retiring police detective who takes on one final case with the new transfer David Mills (Brad Pitt), only to find himself investigating a string of increasingly gruesome murders perpetrated by an elaborate serial killer.
Decades after its original theatrical release, "Se7en" remains a masterpiece. It's a thrilling cat-and-mouse game with a cast at their peak of their acting powers, along with an eerie atmosphere that can best be described as Gotham City without Batman to protect it (which makes sense since "The Batman" owes so much to this movie). Even if you know what's coming, it's hard not to become so engrossed in the world and the story that you find yourself surprised by the film's shocking ending as if...
