Brad Pitt is one of the pioneers of modern cinema as far as Hollywood and acting are concerned. Having started as a nobody and a background actor with no credits in many movies, Pitt has come a long way. While his looks and physicality seem to have certainly played a hand in his popularity, it is really his acting genius that has solidified him as an A-list Hollywood actor.
Brad Pitt (in Legends of the Fall)
Among one of the most influential celebrities, it is hard to imagine the film industry without the many roles he has played over the years. Yet when it comes to making it big in the film industry, Pitt credits one of his least-grossing films from back in 1991.

Turning down a job can sometimes come back to haunt you, especially if you're an actor who passed up a role in an acclaimed horror movie and later regretted the decision. This scenario may be difficult to imagine. After all, who would pass up the chance to be in a movie or TV show, right? As fans, though, it can be easy to forget that the movie business -- for all its glory, fanfare, legacy, and importance -- is, at the end of the day, just that: a business. A person in any industry may decline a job that doesn't feel like good fit, doesn't align with their schedule, or maybe would have them working with a filmmaker or co-star they unsure of for one reason or another.

David Fincher is undoubtedly one of Hollywood’s finest filmmakers and his impressive films throughout the years have shown his mastery towards his craft. He has made some of the best crime/psychological thrillers that have become era-defining films like Se7en, Fight Club, and Zodiac.
David Fincher most recently directed Netflix’s The Killer
The maverick director is among the auteur directors who have not ventured into big-budget filmmaking and superhero films. The director had a rather interesting reply when he was asked about stepping into the world of comic-book films.

For those of us who remember going to the movies in 1977, we were treated to Star Wars, Smokey And The Bandit, The Spy Who Loved Me, Airport 77, The Car, Orca and Capricorn One. There was a rich wealth of movies to choose from and a time when audiences in their local cinemas would cheer and clap for the heroes. Then on December 14, 1977, coming off the success of Jaws, that director Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi masterpiece graced the screens. Close Encounters Of The Third Kind was the filmmaker’s next movie and, along with star Richard Dreyfuss and the magnificent score from composer John Williams, took audiences on a journey of mankind’s first meeting with aliens and let us know we are not alone in the universe.

The 30-year anniversary of David Fincher’s horror masterpiece Se7en is fast approaching, and David Fincher had teased just last summer that a 4K restoration was on the way.
Fincher told Variety in June 2023, “We’re going back and doing it in 4K from the original negative and we overscan it, oversample it, doing all of the due diligence and there’s a lot of shit that needs to be fixed. Because there’s a lot of stuff that we now can add because of high dynamic range.”
He continued, “You know, streaming media is a very different thing than 35 mm motion picture negative in terms of what it can actually retain. So there are, you know, a lot of blown-out windows that we have to kind of go back and ghost in a little bit of cityscape out there.”
So when will you be able to see this new 4K restoration of Se7en?...

As one of the best directors working in Hollywood, David Fincher has crafted several riveting and iconic films over the years. His movie career started roughly with his directorial debut Alien 3 — a film plagued by studio interference and even considered terrible by Fincher himself. However, he quickly rebounded with three projects throughout the late 1990s, including cult classics like Se7en, The Game, and Fight Club.
Fans of Fincher tend to give his films high ratings, considering the careful direction the filmmaker puts in each of his productions. As such, most of his movies tend to be iconic examples of their respective genres. With his latest Netflix film The Killer, Fincher continues to show why he is a director to look out for whenever he creates something new in the crime, thriller, action, and drama genres.

Passing on the role of Detective Mills in Se7en is one of Denzel Washington's biggest career regrets to this day. Washington's incredible range allows him to choose his own roles, but missing out on Se7en was a big loss due to its huge success. Even though Washington would have been amazing in the role, Brad Pitt was perfectly cast and Se7en was still a major hit.

True Detective Season 1 was a landmark moment for Matthew McConaughey. It completed a comeback that started with Jeff Nichols’ Mud back in 2012. The actor continued his resurgence by stripping for Steven Soderbergh in Magic Mike, and losing weight for an Oscar in Dallas Buyers Club. He went on to beat his chest and drink martinis in The Wolf of Wall Street before hitting a career high by starring as Rust Cohle in True Detective. But after ten years and three sequels, fans still keep coming back to the series' debut season. Season 1's rewatch value is something that the detective anthology's later and critically-acclaimed successors don't enjoy as much.
Beyond the obvious McConnaissance, a term coined by the actor himself, True Detective Season 1 captured the ice-cold chemistry between its leading men Woody Harrelson (Marty Hart) and Matthew McConaughey. Ah, the 1990s. Perhaps the peak of the moviegoing experience. Theaters consistently showed classics such as the special effects marvel "Jurassic Park," "The Shawshank Redemption," "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," "Pulp Fiction," "Fargo," and "Titanic." The decade also featured an abundance of outstanding horror films like "The Sixth Sense," "Scream," "Misery," and "Interview with the Vampire," all boasting big-name stars and top-tier directors.
However, playing at the opposite end of the cineplex were thrillers you may have never heard about or skipped simply due to bad reviews or scathing word of mouth. Some of Hollywood's top talent attached themselves to such projects, thwarted by ornery critics or moviegoers seeking higher-end entertainment. That's a shame.
While there are undoubtedly plenty of terrible horror films from the 90s, the decade was also ripe with lower-tier entries that have aged surprisingly well. Many don't reset the bar established by esteemed pictures like "The Silence of the Lambs,...

Fight Club's twist ending redefines the entire narrative, revealing the inner conflict within the Narrator. The symbolic destruction at the end represents the Narrator confronting his issues for a sense of peace. Marla's existence is left open to interpretation, reflecting the Narrator's struggles with self-destructive behavior.
The ending of Fight Club explained a wealth of thematic depth beyond the film's infamous mind-bending twist. Based on the 1996 novel of the same name by Chuck Palahniuk, David Fincher's Fight Club combines a complex story with social commentary and an exploration of the toxic nature of modern society that has led to serious analysis. Told from the perspective of its unnamed narrator, it details his life spiraling into anarchy after founding the titular club which builds to the iconic Fight Club ending.

It started as a practical joke among friends, a way for superstar Brad Pitt and acclaimed director David Fincher to playfully mess with their inner circle on New Year’s Eve as the year turned to 2000. But the elaborate prank, involving staged Y2K chaos and fake federales with automatic weapons, ultimately left some psychological scars.
What Did Brad Pitt and David Fincher’s Prank Entail? Brad Pitt on Between Two Ferns
As per Cracked, on December 31, 1999, Brad Pitt and David Fincher gathered friends at a secluded Mexican resort to celebrate the millennium. But when the clocks struck midnight, instead of toasting champagne, the power and phones suddenly cut out, plunging the party into darkness. Moments later, the lights flipped back on as “government troops,” wielding Ak-47s, burst in to arrest one of Pitt’s friends, Mark Gervitz, on fabricated drug charges.

David Fincher is an obsessive filmmaker. He's become somewhat infamous for his perfectionism, shooting multiple — some would say exhausting — takes to get what he needs. There's a method to this madness: Fincher is looking for something raw and honest. "I hate earnestness in performance," the filmmaker once half-jokingly said. "Usually by Take 17 the earnestness is gone." It's fitting, then, that Fincher's best film is about obsession. "Zodiac," which hit theaters in 2007 and promptly failed at the box office, is the best work of art the filmmaker has created so far; a brilliant, captivating film that grabs you by the throat from the first frame and doesn't let up. Like the characters who inhabit the movie, we grow obsessed with the story; with the mystery; with the truth that can never really be learned.

Se7en had an alternate ending in which Tracy, Mills' wife, survived and one of their dogs' heads was in the box. Another proposed alternate ending had Somerset killing John Doe to protect Mills' career, but Pitt argued against it. A scrapped ending had Mills shooting Somerset, but he would have survived and left a note admitting Somerset was right.
David Fincher's Se7en is now regarded as one of the best movies of the 1990s, and its ending became quite memorable – but it was almost very different, as Fincher had to make a couple of changes to it. In the movie Se7en, the "sloth" victim suffered a fate worse than death, living in extreme torture and confinement for a year. The sloth victim was left emaciated, restrained, and tortured by the killer, who made him live out the sin assigned to him. The sloth victim's death was slow and painful, with his condition worsening over the year, leading to him being declared brain-dead.
Se7en follows detectives Somerset (Morgan Freeman) and Mills (Brad Pitt) as they solve a series of murders inspired by the seven deadly sins – but only one victim, the “sloth” one, was still alive when he was found. Despite getting mixed reviews during its release (but becoming one of the highest-grossing movies of the year), David Fincher’s 1995 crime thriller Se7en is now regarded as one of the best movies of the 1990s, and it has some of the most memorable lines and scenes of the decade.

Many people often blasphemously (and hilariously) joke around that Morgan Freeman is God. Not only because of his pitch perfect casting as God but also due to his smooth, defining and, yes, god-like is Morgan Freeman’s voice that one can’t picture penguins or parts of nature or, yes, God, without hearing the man. One reason could be that we’ve only ever really known Morgan Freeman as an older actor, not striking a chord with mainstream audiences until he was in his 50s.
Soon enough his skills, screen presences and voice had Hollywood calling every time they needed a kind wise grandfather types or a grizzled vet from either side of the the law or any type of narration in any type of film. True Detective's first season was a lightning bolt that set new standards for the detective genre, thanks to its horror-like aesthetic and references to the occult and supernatural. Subsequent seasons of True Detective failed to live up to the first, with the second season being a mess and the third feeling like a rehash. They lacked the unique and horror-driven elements that made the show notable. The fourth season, Night Country, under new showrunner Issa Lopez, is a promising return to the supernatural elements that made the show successful. The premiere sets a thrilling and spooky tone, incorporating indigenous beliefs and leaving it open to question whether the supernatural is at play or if it's just the characters' mental instability.

The question of how to get the most authenticity possible out of actors has been riling up filmmakers for as long as the film medium has existed. William Wyler ("Ben-Hur") did 40 takes; Robert Bresson ("Pickpocket") insisted on simple movements and monotone line deliveries; Italian Neorealists cast people off the street; Robert Altman ("Nashville") let actors improvise; Andrei Tarkovsky ("Solaris") kept them in the dark about how the story would end.
When it comes to horror, the quest becomes even more daunting: How do you convince viewers that the people they're seeing on screen are genuinely disturbed and terrified, while also securing enough distance between actors and characters to keep the shoot sustainable? Some films have attempted to split the difference by instilling genuine scares, discomfort, and emotional distress on their actors. Others assembled their respective violent scenarios to within an inch of their lives, placing performers into circumstances that were...

A theory suggests that Detective Somerset was the real "seven deadly sins murderer" and John Doe was just a pawn. Some evidence supporting the theory includes Somerset's knowledge of Mills' skills and his odd reaction to the "gluttony" crime scene. If Somerset was the killer, it would change the movie, making Mills' story even more tragic and raising questions about what really happened to Tracy.
David Fincher’s Se7en featured one of the cruelest and most disturbing serial killers in film history, but a theory completely changes the movie by claiming John Doe (Kevin Spacey) wasn’t the real killer. Many popular horror movie moments are commonly misremembered or misconstrued, leading to widespread misconceptions in pop culture. Examples include Lugosi's Dracula never saying "I want to suck your blood" and Heather in The Blair Witch Project saying "I'm so sorry" instead of "I'm so scared." In movies like Halloween and Se7en, the lack of graphic violence and specific imagery leaves much to the viewer's imagination, fueling false memories and theories.
Many horror movies have become so popular and influential that there are various misconceptions about them, leading the audience to swear some things happened one way when they were actually very different or didn’t happen at all. It’s not uncommon for memories of specific movie moments to become distorted with time and most viewers remembering them one way, and some of these corrupted memories end up becoming part of pop culture, making it harder to believe that, in reality,...

Non-horror movie villains can be more terrifying than horror villains because their fear comes from complex human qualities. Villains like Roy Batty from Blade Runner or Frank from Once Upon a Time in the West are terrifying because they represent actual, horrible actions of humankind. Characters like John Doe in Se7en or Amy Dunne in Gone Girl are terrifying because of their psychological manipulation and deceptive nature.
Horror films are known for their terrifying antagonists, but many of cinema's most chilling villains come from non-horror movies. When viewing a horror movie, the expectation to experience a visceral thrill through the fear of its contents, and villains like Jigsaw or Freddy Krueger naturally evoke that feeling through their distinct physical appearances. Yet, there's something about villains in non-horror films that's almost more terrifying, as the fear for them often comes from complex human qualities.

Denzel Washington turned down the roles in "A Perfect World," "Michael Clayton," and "Amistad" due to various reasons. Despite turning down certain roles, Washington has had a successful career with numerous award wins and acclaimed performances. "Hotel Rwanda," "48 Hrs.," "Dreamgirls," "I, Robot," "Blade," "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," and "Se7en" are other prominent films Denzel Washington could have been a part of.
Denzel Washington has had many prolific roles over his long and lustrous film career, but the actor has also had many parts that he either missed out on out of his own volition or because the casting producers turned him down. Of course, that has not slowed him down at all, as seen in his expansive filmography and numerous award wins. Whenever fans discuss torture-based horror movies, the Saw films are often the first to come to mind. Saw, which follows the Jigsaw killer who places his victims in complex, lethal traps, forces them into intense moral quandaries. While most horror films have gory kills, the Saw movies are known for their gruesome deaths that seem straight from someone’s most disturbing nightmares.
The Saw movies are incredibly popular, which is always an accomplishment, especially for a horror movie known for its visceral thrills. This popularity has resulted in many similar movies attempting to emulate the pure dread and squeamish feelings that Saw creates. After this year’s release of Saw X, fans are surely looking for other torturously thrilling movies like those in the Saw franchise.
Updated December 21, 2023, by Anthony Jeanetta. With the success of Saw X and the announcement of a sequel, fans can rest knowing more Jigsaw-related excitement is on the way.

The casting choices made by actors in Hollywood can have a significant impact on the film industry and career trajectories. The absence or inclusion of certain actors in iconic roles can greatly alter the landscape of movies and genres. The decisions actors make regarding roles can have long-lasting effects on their careers and the industry as a whole.
In the volatile world of Hollywood filmmaking, the difference in one movie's casting can have a lasting effect on the industry. Many actors have revealed turning down famous roles, like Jim Carrey with Elf or Denzel Washington with Se7en. Of course, there are also infinite examples that haven't been shown to the public. Actors receive tons of scripts, and it's impossible to predict which projects will end up as hits. In other cases, scheduling conflicts lead actors to miss out on roles they might have loved to play.
The film industry is highly unpredictable.

Se7en is such a dark and effective crime thriller that it's very easy to overlook how silly the title is, given it replaces a "v" with a "7," and so is seemingly pronounced "Sesevenen." It was arguably David Fincher's first great film, and has a plot that follows two detectives going after a dangerous serial killer who appears to be committing a series of murders that are each based on one of the seven deadly sins.

Horror movies are most impactful when they force the heroes to live on with the consequences of their actions, leading to a fate worse than death. Films like Se7en and The Mist showcase protagonists who survive horrifying events, but are forever haunted by what happened. Characters in movies like The Human Centipede and Tusk are trapped in disturbing situations, with no hope of escape or return to normalcy.
Horror movies usually feature a good deal of chaos, terrifying events, and death, but some take things to another level and end with their characters suffering a fate worse than death. A great horror movie can grab the audience's attention and put viewers in the middle of a gut-wrenching story. Whether that means having a monstrous villain who torments the characters, or some unseen supernatural events that keep putting the heroes into horrifying situations.

The reality that Denzel Washington and David Fincher, two of the most accomplished figures in their respective craft, have never worked together is disheartening for cinephiles. Over the last 30 years, Washington's impeccable screen presence in projects including Training Day, The Pelican Brief, Flight, and The Equalizer has simultaneously made him a gifted actor and a beloved movie star. Fincher, with his postmodern take on familiar thrillers and probing examinations of obsession and sociopathy with movies such as Zodiac, Gone Girl, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, is one of the most celebrated auteurs working today. At pivotal moments in their careers in the mid 1990s, Washington and Fincher nearly converged to make Se7en, the director's breakthrough film, but Washington turned it down.

“A lot of Goop,” one of the attendees remarked on leaving Gwyneth Paltrow’s In Conversation talk taking place at the Red Sea Film Festival. “A bit lopsided,” another agreed. Many of the gathered gripped Marvel posters and wore Marvel T-shirts, but everyone was happy to welcome an actor whose career has spanned films as diverse as “Se7en,” “The Royal Tenenbaums” and “Shakespeare in Love,” and the biggest applause came when she said that this was her first time in Saudi Arabia.
The first female CEO of the Saudi Research and Media Group Jomana al-Rashid acted as moderator and began the talk with a survey of Paltrow’s acting career and her first inspiration: “My mother is an actress. David Fincher has firmly established himself as a master of blending art and commerce. It’s especially impressive considering his output has been uniformly dark, moody and disturbing, with flashes of wit and satire thrown in. Let’s take a look back at all 12 of his films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1962, Fincher cut his teeth at special effects house Industrial Light and Magic, working on such films as “Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi” (1983) and “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” (1984). He left to pursue a career in directing, making his mark with a commercial for the American Cancer Society that depicted a fetus smoking a cigarette. He co-founded Propaganda Films, a production house for music videos and commercials that employed future filmmakers Spike Jonze, Michael Bay, Antoine Fuqua, Alex Proyas, Mark Romanek, Zach Snyder and Gore Verbinski. Michael Fassbender believes the Killer is good at his job due to his prior successes and the money he has made as an assassin. However, the film shows the protagonist making mistakes, indicating that his skills are not perfect and can deteriorate over time. The Killer shows its main character's career is unraveling, but there are also indications that he was highly skilled before the events of the movie, leaving room for potential future success.

David Fincher changed television forever in 2013 when he helped bring the first season of House of Cards to Netflix. Although the notion of a prestigious drama series made directly for a streaming service seemed preposterous at the time, the success of House of Cards helped transform Netflix into the powerful studio that it is today. Although Fincher has used his relationship with Netflix to create risky film projects like Mank and The Killer, his crime drama series Mindhunter remains the greatest product of his relationship with the streamer. Mindhunter felt closer in tone to Fincher’s films Se7en and Zodiac than it did to any other procedural crime films. Although Fincher has confirmed that a third season of Midnhunter will never happen due to low viewership, the details revealed about his intended plans make it even more disappointing that the show will not continue.

The Simpsons and Alien cosplay merges Marge Simpson with a Xenomorph, creating an eerie and unexpected combination. The costume blends the Xenomorph's features with Marge's iconic appearance, with the misshapen skull and bug eyes fitting surprisingly well. The cosplay raises whether an Alien-themed episode could be featured in The Simpsons' annual "Treehouse of Horror" specials, given the show's willingness to reference classic films.
Marge Simpson merges with a Xenomorph in an unexpected The Simpsons and Alien cosplay. Beginning back in 1989, The Simpsons is currently in season 35 and has been renewed for a season 36. Alien, on the other hand, began its franchise a decade prior with Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien, before going on to become one of the most acclaimed science fiction franchises of all time.

What began as a simple two-hander about strangers chained in a squalid bathroom, enduring the twisted games of a mysterious tormentor, has evolved into an intricate saga spanning nearly twenty years and ten gruesome films. With every new "Saw" movie, the traps become bigger and more brutal, the timelines increasingly jumbled, and the twists even more mind-boggling. Each "Saw" entry delves deeper into (and complicates) the maniacal Jigsaw philosophy that forces people to confront their sins and appreciate the life they've been given.
Often regarded as part of the controversial horror subgenre "torture porn" (even though we may need to retire that term forever), the "Saw" films feature graphic depictions of mutilation and extreme violence in elaborate devices that are not for the faint of heart. While it can be daunting to tackle such a visceral and temporally complex series, there is really only one solid path to follow when...

Fincher's passion project, The Killer, took almost two decades to make due to the challenges of funding and getting a film greenlit, even for an A-list director like him. Initially, Brad Pitt's production company, Plan B, was involved in the project, with Fincher wanting Pitt to star. However, Pitt declined the role due to finding the antihero character too nihilistic for his taste. The project went through a period of losing the rights and being put on hold, but eventually, Fincher was able to secure the rights again and work with writer Andrew Kevin Walker to create a script that stayed true to the source material. This waiting period allowed Fincher to develop better ideas for the film adaptation.

Brad Pitt turned down the lead role in David Fincher's The Killer because he found the script too nihilistic for his taste.
