A group of aliens has come to Earth to learn about its population, customs, et cetera. To avoid detection, they have taken on human form, which gives them human emotions, physical needs, et cetera, without the understanding of what they mean nor the inhibitions normally present in humans. Their leader takes the position of a college professor, their military expert as his sister, their intelligence expert, supposedly the oldest of group, takes the form of his teenage son. The uninhibited reactions turn everyday events into unusual situations. Written by Jim Brawn <jim_brawn@amuc.mtroyal.ab.ca>

Alternate Versions

In an episode entitled "Assault with a Deadly Dick," a line of dialogue was cut after the first airing. Dick is waiting at the police station with Mary to point out the man who mugged him. Officer Don comes in and says "Time to finger your perp." Dick looks awkwardly at Mary and replies "I keep trying, but she won't let me." When the episode was rebroadcast a few months later, Dick's line was omitted and the laugh track was streched. This line is always cut in syndication airings, but when shown outside the US and on the DVD, the line is intact. See more »

3rd Rock rules
17 April 2005 | by holdjSee all my reviews

well I'm 15 and i simple love 3rd rock from the sun it has sections for all the family. The characters are great and are played with amazing talent. I don't think there is anything i could say that i hated and i only wished they could have carried on making more shows. As a family Dick Sally Harry and Tommy go great together each having their own individual style. Every show has more gags and laughs than the last. The story line of aliens disguised as humans is hilarious, I find it funny to see them tying to fit in and understand humans. Some of the lines leave me laughing for days and I'm sure they will live on for years to come!!!! Proving that there is no show better than 3rd rock from the sun!!
