Harriet Smith (Pauline Collins), the new British ambassador to Ireland, desperately wants to make her mark in this historically difficult posting and try to put the tragic murder of her husband behind her. Harriet wants to be just and fair in her dealings with the Irish government and to try to make the relationship between the two governments less adversarial in nature. However, the situation is made considerably worse for her and her trusted assistant, John Stone (Denis Lawson), by her son Nate who refuses to accept the consequences of her new ambassadorial role and still blames her for his fathers death.Written by

The building that was used as the interior and exterior for the British Embassy in the series, was actually owned by the Knights of Columbanus. The building is located on Ely Place in Dublin, close to St Stephen's Green and Merrion Square. The interiors of the stairwell, Ambassador's Embassy office, and the blue walled Embassy meeting room are on its first floor. The only obvious set dressing to the exterior was the British Flag, and the Glass inner front door with the British Crest on it. See more »
Not worth watching IMHO
My wife and I recently watched the first 3 episodes on Amazon Prime but were underwhelmed. While we found the premise very intriguing and the story lines promising, the ambassador did not come across as being anywhere near smart or savvy enough to have been appointed to a sensitive ambassadorial position, in Ireland or especially in her previous posting, Lebanon (where her husband died in a car bomb meant for her). We couldn't decide whether the actress playing the ambassador was miscast or the scripts made her seem stupid, but whichever it was we won't be watching any more episodes.
