Pam Grier is opening up about how she still has injuries from her time on the set of Foxy Bown.
The actress stopped by Live With Kelly and Mark on Friday to celebrate 50 years since the Jack Hill film was released. Foxy Brown follows a vigilante who takes a job as a high-class prostitute to get revenge on the people who killed her boyfriend.
“I didn’t have a stunt double, so I had to look and appear convincing,” Grier told Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos about the film. “I got hurt. … I have injuries.”
She explained that, at the time, she was surrounded by a community of women who had to be self-sufficient because their husbands, fathers and uncles were at war, and she brought that independence with her to Hollywood.
“It took years to prepare men in a patriarchal society to see a woman do martial arts, jump around,...

Before Disney extended their business with the Star Wars franchise, the studio had an expensive bet against George Lucas’ Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope— a space adventure that took Hollywood by storm. It was one of the greatest hits of the time, which prompted several studios to have their pie in the game.

Film icon Pam Grier has teamed with Village Roadshow Pictures to develop a project based on her bestselling 2010 memoir, “Foxy: My Life in Three Acts.”
Known as the queen of 1970s Blaxploitation classics like “Coffy” and “Foxy Brown,” plus Quentin Tarantino’s Oscar-nominated film “Jackie Brown,” Grier is enjoying her latest act thanks to movies like 2023’s “Cinnamon.” That film kicked off her relationship with Village Roadshow Pictures, which produced the title under the company’s Black Noir Cinema banner for Tubi.
“Foxy: My Life in Three Acts” details Grier’s legendary screen career; her relationships with Richard Pryor, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Freddie Prinze, among others; her experience as a Black female star in an era with rampant racism and sexism; and her battle with stage-four cervical cancer, diagnosed in 1988, when she was told she had 18 months to live.

To say that few filmmakers love movies as much as Quentin Tarantino is a staggering understatement. Few people love movies as much as Quentin Tarantino, and the cinephile’s tastes continue to shape Hollywood. Today he turns 61, and so of course we had to share an updated list of Tarantino’s favorite movies that brings the total to 61.
The video store clerk-turned-director has spent decades dazzling interviewers and fans with his unparalleled knowledge of cinema history, with tastes that range from universally acclaimed classics to more obscure and even lowbrow fare. While his love of spaghetti Westerns and exploitation flicks has always been well-documented, Tarantino isn’t afraid to publicly embrace the modern or mainstream. He proudly championed “Top Gun: Maverick” in the summer of 2022, as did so many others. Not to mention, he’s a fan of rom-coms, particularly on long flights. (He once dubbed Kate Hudson “the queen...

If you didn't know Quentin Tarantino hosted "Saturday Night Live" in the 1990s, and had to guess when he took the Studio 8H stage, your best options would be early 1995 (when the zeitgeisty "Pulp Fiction" was speeding toward an Academy Awards showdown with "Forrest Gump"), early 1996 (to promote "From Dusk till Dawn") or late 1997/early 1998 (in support of "Jackie Brown"). None of these would be correct.
No, the brash indie filmmaking sensation guested on November 11, 1995, with nothing to promote but himself. This might seem peculiar now, but it made perfect sense at the time because, after the Oscars, Tarantino was hitting the talk show circuit harder than Don Rickles. Could you blame him? He'd skyrocketed from know-it-all video store clerk to generational filmmaking genius. The problem here was that Tarantino knew he was a genius before critics and fans started telling him so. The baddest one-chick hit-squad that ever hit town is brewin’ some hot coffee – or should we say Coffy? Quentin Tarantino has opened up a coffee shop next to his own Vista Theater called Pam’s Coffy, so named after both actress Pam Grier and her 1973 blaxploitation classic.
Now an official neighbor to the Vista Theater – which reopened last November thanks to Tarantino – Pam’s Coffy opened on February 14th while the iconic theater was in the middle of their Ib Tech Fest, honoring the process that is marked for having pristine colors that don’t fade. That night’s double feature was What’s Up, Doc? (1972) – which Tarantino has said will be part of the Cinema Speculation follow-up – and The War Between Men and Women (also 1972).
But enough about screenings most of us won’t be able to attend. Pam’s Coffy is an ode not just to its namesake star...

Quentin Tarantino and Samuel L. Jackson’s collaboration over the years has churned out some great performances from the actor. Jackson is presented uniquely and interestingly every time he stars in a Tarantino flick. The actor got to play some of the most entertaining characters in his career including Jules in Pulp Fiction, Odell in Jackie Brown, and Stephen in Django Unchained.

Tarantino films are known for their entertaining tone and inclusion of hard R language. They also include calling black people the N-word. This led to some sections of the audience calling him racist. However, Jackson clapped back at the haters and defended the characterization of black characters in his films.

Quentin Tarantino may be renowned to be somewhat of a strict director, but his movie sets are more creative and sociable than perhaps every other set in the world. As people already know, the films helmed by Tarantino are extraordinary to a whole new level, and his masterpieces like Pulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds are living proof of how incredible of a director he is.

Los Angeles, Feb 2 (Ians) Hollywood star Brad Pitt is likely reuniting with Quentin Tarantino for the filmmaker’s 10th and ostensibly final feature, ‘The Movie Critic’.
The status of the deal is unclear. Tarantino has remained tight-lipped about ‘The Movie Critic’ but it’s reportedly set in southern California during the 1970s and centres on a cynical film reviewer, reports Variety.
It’s rumoured to be inspired by the life of Pauline Kael, the late New Yorker writer who was one of the most influential film critics of her time.
Tarantino sidestepped inquiries about ‘The Movie Critic’ during a conversation at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, saying to audience: “I can’t tell you guys (anything) until you see the movie. I’m tempted to do some of the character’s monologues right now, but I’m not going to. Maybe if there were less video cameras. You just have to wait and see.

Martin Scorsese's "Goodfellas" turns 34 this year. The movie itself spans more than three decades, chronicling Henry Hill's (Ray Liotta) life as an associate in the New York mob — Hill's life story was first told to the public by the nonfiction book "Wiseguy" by Nicholas Pileggi, who co-wrote the "Goodfellas" script with Scorsese.
"Goodfellas" is a cinematic shot of adrenaline, cut with vivacious energy by Thelma Schoonmaker and scored with classic rock to reflect the anti-authority glamour of mid-20th century gangsters. No matter if you watch it in all its sprawling glory or just sample clips, it's enjoyable — nay, irresistible.
Since "Goodfellas" packs so many years into two-and-a-half hours, it has a huge cast. So much time has passed since "Goodfellas" premiered in theaters and left its mark on crime cinema that not all of these actors are still with us. Miraculously, though, quite a few of them...

The film is the latest cinematic retelling of the miraculous story of the Uruguayan rugby team that crash-landed on a glacier in the heart of the Andes in 1972, with the survivors being forced to resort to extreme measures to stay alive. After debuting in Venice, Society of the Snow has picked up plenty of awards on the international film festival circuit, and it recently made the shortlists in four categories for the 2024 Academy Awards, including best international feature film.

It’s a quiet month on Netflix in January, but the streamer still has some good stuff lined up for the new year, including an interesting documentary about the Centra Tech cryptocurrency scam. Bitconned arrives on the first of the month alongside Netflix’s latest Harlan Coben adaptation, Fool Me Once, which sees an ex-soldier called Maya witness her husband’s murder on a nanny cam. The crime then leads her down a deadly path where she uncovers a deadly conspiracy.
Schitt’s Creek star Daniel Levy will also debut his first film as writer and director with Good Grief on Netflix this month. The movie follows Levy’s character Marc as he does some soul-searching after the death of his husband.

Quentin Tarantino has been known for his storytelling as much as he’s been known for his filmmaking. Martin Scorsese, a prolific director in his own right, believed that actually writing films was the one thing Tarantino did that he couldn’t.
Martin Scorsese would’ve loved to be able to create like Quentin Tarantino Quentin Tarantino | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Tarantino has always fancied himself as much of a writer as he is a director. His filmography is almost entirely full of movies he’s penned from scratch with the exception of Jackie Brown. The director often pulls from a very personal place for his stories, which may partially explain why he’s rarely filmed other writers’ scripts.
“All my movies are achingly personal,” Tarantino once told The Telegraph. “People who really know me can see that in my work. In a film, I may be talking about a bomb in a theatre,...

Exactly 20 years after he made history as the first Black performer to win a Golden Globe for a multi-part limited series, Jeffrey Wright is widely expected to triumph on his second general notice from the same organization. According to Gold Derby’s odds, he is the frontrunner in the 2024 Best Film Comedy/Musical Actor race based on his work in “American Fiction,” which is also set to compete for Best Comedy/Musical Film and Best Screenplay. If Wright at least prevails and thereby maintains his perfect Golden Globes record, he will become the third Black winner in his category’s seven-decade existence.
Adapted from the no-holds-barred 2001 novel “Erasure,” “American Fiction” was written and directed by first-time feature filmmaker Cord Jefferson, who has collected numerous accolades (including a Primetime Emmy) for his script work on such TV programs as “Watchmen” and “Succession.” Wright leads a primarily Black cast as fictional author Thelonious “Monk” Ellison,...

Quentin Tarantino might’ve been a bit too excited when penning his Kill Bill script. So much so that he vowed to never get that wild when writing another movie again.

Tarantino once shared that his writing process for movies changed a bit from his Pulp Fiction days. The director started including a bit more direction with his scripts, which presented a slight problem for Kill Bill. Tarantino realized that he was going a little overboard when fleshing out the feature.
“Well, you know, it’s funny because with everything I’ve done from Jackie Brown on, I got really into really writing more prose in the – in what you’re calling the stage directions, all right, and consequently my scripts have gotten bigger and bigger, and cut to Kill Bill Volume 1 and...

After the debacle that was Batman & Robin, George Clooney needed to find the kind of role that would rehabilitate his reputation as an actor. He found it in Steven Soderbergh’s Out of Sight, a crime comedy adapted from a novel by Elmore Leonard. In Out of Sight, Clooney led an outstanding ensemble cast that included Jennifer Lopez, Don Cheadle, Catherine Keener, Albert Brooks, Ving Rhames, Nancy Allen, and Dennis Farina. It turned out to be a good career move for Clooney — the movie got fantastic reviews and, although it wasn’t a huge box-office hit at the time, has become a cult classic over the years. When Out of Sight was released in 1998, Clooney walked us through the process that resulted in him starring in the film. The Vista Theatre in Los Feliz, which was bought by Quentin Tarantino in 2021, is finally ready to unveil its renovation with a special anniversary screening Saturday of “True Romance” with Tarantino hosting.
The theater’s regular programming kicks off Nov. 17 with Eli Roth’s “Thanksgiving” in 35mm, followed by Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” in 70mm starting on Nov. 22.
“Quentin basically retained the auditorium — it’s intact, it’s been rehabbed and it’s still new and beautiful, but the overall auditorium is in intact condition,” said chief operating officer Lance Alspaugh.
The reopening of the 100-year old movie house is another sign that Los Angeles filmgoers are eager to support independent and classic film programming, particularly in historic venues. Netflix’s 101-year-old Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, which is programming in partnership with the American Cinematheque, reopens after an extensive remodel on Nov. 9, while Vidiots opened its screening and rental venue...

Movies might seem like magic, but Hollywood’s favorite actors, directors, producers, stunt performers, props masters, costumers, script coordinators, and cinematographers are still only human. Since before that child extra prematurely covered his ears for Eva Marie Saint shooting Cary Grant in Alfred Hitchcock’s “North by Northwest,” audiences have delighted in finding the little moments that make their favorite films imperfect.
Like freckles on a human face, mistakes can make movies infinitely more special to the audiences that love them. Consider the clumsy stormtrooper of “A New Hope,” whose hilariously audible collision with an Imperial spaceship doorframe turned the extra’s true identity into an ongoing mystery for the Star Wars ages. Or, for “The Lord of the Rings” fans among us, there’s the anachronistic automobile appearing in “Fellowship of the Ring” right alongside Sam and Frodo. As for the Wizarding World, how about that bike seat on Harry’s broomstick?...

Quentin Tarantino, one of the most influential and acclaimed filmmakers of his generation, has announced that his 10th and final film will be titled “The Movie Critic”. The film will be set in 1977 and will follow the life of Jim Sheldon, a film critic for the Hollywood Press, who is described by Tarantino as “Travis Bickle if he were a film critic”. Travis Bickle is the protagonist of Martin Scorsese’s classic 1976 film “Taxi Driver”, played by Robert De Niro, who is a lonely and unstable taxi driver who becomes obsessed with saving a teenage prostitute from a pimp.

Quentin Tarantino has been very vocal about not wanting to direct movies as an old man, which explains the director’s upcoming retirement. But the director also felt he got his old-man movie out the way when he was still a young filmmaker.

Tarantino has delivered a variety of movies to the big screen, some taking place in different time periods and genres entirely. Many of his films usually depict some level of strong violence that occasionally even stir up controversies.
But Jackie Brown was a Tarantino movie that took a different approach to the filmmaker’s usual work. Because of this, some critics saw the Elmore Leonard adaptation as a sign of Tarantino maturing.
However, when Tarantino reverted back to his more familiar style with subsequent films, this generated criticism that he was regressing.

As Pam Grier waxes over her groundbreaking career — touching on everything from Foxy Brown and Coffy to Quentin Tarantino’s 1997 love letter to Grier and the genre she built, Jackie Brown — she takes a moment to take stock of what it all represents.
“I hope I’ve given you a slice of what it’s like to be a woman in film,” says the gilded icon of Blaxploitation films during a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter. “From age 19 to me today, I’m in such gratitude and honor of all the people who taught me so much.”
While a library could be built around what’s been written about the Blaxploitation era and her role in it — the recent Netflix documentary Is that Black Enough for You?!? in part chronicles how the genre made her one of the highest-grossing film stars in the 1970s — these days, Grier is focused on...
