Sex & Nudity

  • Woman is under the sheets of a bed and it's implied she's been having sex with a man.
  • Woman is found in a bed and sex with her boyfriend is implied. Later there are two sensual scenes where the boyfriend is kissing under her bra strap and in the other he has her dress completely unbuttoned in the front and the boyfriend is jokingly playing with food by her bra. The camera zooms in on this. There is also a scene at a club with women in very revealing outfits and the scene is meant to be erotic.
  • About 55 minutes in, there is a scene in a strip club where multiple women are shown in thongs and bras with very little material. Much of the stripper's bodies are shown. The scene lasts a little over a minute.

Violence & Gore

  • Level of violence:7.5/10.
  • Most of the violence isn't human on human, but instead involves massive destruction and millions of implied deaths.
  • Asteroid chunks hit a satellite and the man working on it. The man is then briefly seen cut in half (his lower half is shown briefly with some blood).
  • Although played for humour, Harry chases A.J. around the oil rig, firing a shotgun at him (and blowing out windows, etc.)
  • An asteroid falls to Shanghai,China drowning a lot of people.
  • A major meteor takes down Paris with a ground waved smash heading toward the screen. This is the most disasterous and intense scene in this movie.

Profanity

  • 1 use of "fucking", 6 uses of "shit" (1 used as "bullshit"), 16 uses of "hell", 7 uses of "ass", 9 uses of "damn", 10 uses of "goddamn", 2 uses of "bitch", 1 use of "son of a bitch", 4 uses of "Jesus".
  • Mild to sometimes moderate language throughout.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Rockhound has drinks with a woman in a bar, and we later see others having drinks in a strip club.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The overall concept is about impending doom via a large and fast approaching asteroid. Likewise, they may find the mayhem- filled scenes -- where "smaller" chunks of it impact in different cities, presumably killing many people -- just as scary or unnerving.
  • Near the beginning, New York is pelted by rocks from space. A building collapses with many screaming people falling at high speed past the camera to their deaths.
  • There are a couple of highly emotional scenes towards the end of the film especially one where a character is saying goodbye to the other characters.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • A space shuttle disintegrates as it tries to land on an asteroid. Although not bloody, this scene shows crew members screaming and being sucked out of the windows at speed. One them is then shown colliding with the window of an accompanying shuttle and his body tumbling through space past the camera.
  • A man holds several other people at gunpoint. He is then physically restrained and strangled until he relinquishes the gun.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There is a scene near the end where Harry is saying his final goodbyes to Grace. This is very emotional and will make people cry.
  • There is a scene in which a fire breaks out in a fuel pit and two men have to be saved before it explodes. The entire scene lasts several minutes and is very chaotic and intense.
