O’Brien has been with Naked since 2016 and succeeds Fatima Salaria, whose departure was announced back in January. She had replaced Andreae, who we revealed had faced internal misconduct complaints before his exit. Irwin replaces Brown, who was initially set to exit Fremantle but took on the CEO post after Andreae’s exit.

As the UK is in the grips of a major second wave of coronavirus, it was the Queen who helped bring the nation together around the television on Christmas Day.
In her annual address, Her Majesty told the country that people “are not alone” in struggling without absent friends and family over the festive period. “Even on the darkest nights there is hope in the new dawn,” she added in a note of hope.
The speech topped the Christmas Day television ratings battle after being watched by 8.2M people across BBC One and ITV, according to overnight figures supplied by overnights.tv.
That 8.2M is likely to be Queen Elizabeth II’s biggest Christmas Day audience in some time. According to a website that collates Christmas Day TV audiences, it could be her highest rating in as many as 18 years.

The Crystal Maze, Cyber Zone, Fort Boyard... We look back at the UK game shows that dared to ask more than just quiz questions...
If the idea of yet another TV game show with an uninspiring presenter and ever so slight spin on the tried and tested Q&A formula fills you with apathy, you're not alone. Although TV quiz shows often rake in the viewers for a relatively low production budget, hence their popularity with TV studios, the whole genre feels a little stagnant. Perhaps it's the rise of the Internet, a general change in viewer culture, and the changing tastes that come with it. While many shows of the past delighted audiences with images of shiny new appliances, cars, and holidays to far-off destinations, today's shows mostly award cold, hard, and boring cash. Great for the winner, but not too interesting for the viewer. Give...

Sir Terry Wogan was a broadcasting institution and cultural iconoclast. He hosted a multitude of television and radio programs, including the quiz show Blankety Blank, as well as the charity program Children in Need, which was first broadcast in 1980, and which he continued to host after his retirement from regular broadcasting. With that singular Irish Blarney and an irreverent whimsy, he helped make the Eurovision Son Contest, for which he provided acerbic commentary for the BBC from 1971 to 2008, relevant again, long after Brits ceased to take the program seriously. "Who knows what hellish future lies ahead?" he mused at the beginning of the 2007 contest. "Actually, I do. I've seen the rehearsals."Wogan, who died of cancer at 79 on Sunday, was an ubiquitous presence in England and Ireland. He had a brilliant ability to coax celebrities into saying things that adorned morning headlines, and would deliver lacerating...

Is there anything more perfect on a Sunday evening than sitting down for a good old quiz show? No, which is why we're very happy that Stephen Mulhern is back with a brand new series of Catchphrase this weekend! To celebrate, we caught up with Stephen for a natter about rubbish contestants, trying not to follow in the footsteps of previous host Nick Weir, and why we're about to see a worthy successor to the infamous snake charmer rudeness...
Were you glad to get back to Catchphrase for a second series?
"Yes, I must say I was really, really pleased. It doesn't feel like going to work. With Catchphrase, there is something about it where as soon as you go back into the studio it just feels right. David Walliams has spoken of the successful completion of the UK's first 24-hour panel show. The Little Britain funnyman starred alongside a mass of celebrities including Miranda Hart, Paul O'Grady and Barbara Windsor in the 24 Hour Panel People Challenge - which paid tribute to classic game shows such as The Generation Game and Blankety Blank - but was the only famous face to endure the entirety of the marathon event. Speaking about the Comic Relief spectacular, which was broadcast live online from midday Saturday, Walliams remarked: "I'm descending into madness! It does take its toll on you just physically... it was as tough as I thought it would be, particularly at the end just having to keep the show together, being so exhausted and not being able to think straight any more." He added: "I just couldn't really (more)...

Mention Underworld to any Doctor Who expert, and they’ll most likely respond with a barely disguised sneer of contempt. For years, the story has been derided for ridiculous looking Cso caves to the point where it looks less like a Doctor Who story, more an episode of kids’ virtual reality TV show, Knightmare.
Ironically though, the Cso isn’t the worst thing about Underworld. The recent DVD sheds a bit more light on this troubled production. Back in 1977, funds weren’t quite so high as they had been on previous stories, and so it was decided that a good way of saving money was to build model caves and film these via Cso. Sadly though, the Cso doesn’t totally convince, and according to the DVD featurette, this wasn’t a particularly easy production to work on.
