AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Frank Capra (1982)

**** (out of 4)

As a film buff it's impossible not to get excited over some of these older AFI Life Achievement Award ceremonies because there are just so many legends in them. This one here is honoring the great Frank Capra and we get James Stewart hosting. We also get appereances from Bette Davis, Charlton Heston, Claudette Colbert, Peter Falk, Bob Hope, Jack Lemmon and several others.

I really wish more of these episodes would get released but it seems the various use of film clips are preventing them. That's really too bad because there are so many legends here that you can't help but be really entertained while you watch it. The Capra tribute was a very good one and you can tell that the director was touched by the various comments and especially with some of the stories shared by Stewart.

Of all the guest speakers it's probably Davis who gets the biggest laughs when she talks about Capra having to deal with certain bad people, herself included. There's also a nice little tribute from Colbert who pays homage to Capra as well as Clark Gable.
