Sex & Nudity

  • Almost constant discussions about sex, masturbation, sexual fetishes, sexual orientations, sexual positions, sex toys, pornography and genitalia throughout the show.
  • Dildos & vibrators are occasionally seen throughout the show. Some of which look like realistic penises.
  • Samantha Jones, one of the four main characters, is known for frequently speaking about sex very crudely and graphically
  • A bathouse has several completely nude women ( Full frontal nudity seen)
  • Every episode has an average of 2 sex scenes or more and include female bare breasts & buttocks nudity with some full frontals.
  • There is some female full-frontal nudity.

Violence & Gore

  • In an episode, a woman trips and falls on her face, she is badly injured and a lot of blood is seen coming out of her mouth.
  • A character gets robbed at gunpoint
  • A few fist fights throughout the show
  • If any, very mild and infrequent

Profanity

  • Frequent "fucks"
  • About 5-10 uses of the word "cunt" scattered throughout the series.
  • Any swear word you can think of is used in the series, e.g. Shit, bastard, prick, wanker, whore, the f slur, slut, asshole.
  • The edited version of the series seen in syndication removes the words "fuck", "shit", "cunt", and "asshole".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Characters are seen snorting cocaine in a few episodes.
  • A few episodes revolve around marijuana, characters are seen smoking it and being high.
  • A character mentions having taken acid off-screen in an episode, she is seen being high. This is discussed throughout the rest of the episode.
  • Characters are seen smoking cigarettes and cigars throughout. Carrie is regularly seen smoking cigarettes in almost every episode.
  • Alcohol consumption is almost constant throughout the show. Characters are seen drinking wine, beer & cocktails. In some episodes, characters drink to the point inebriation.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Some episodes revolve around infertility, abortions & miscarriages. This might be uncomfortable for some.
  • Some characters cheat on their significant others, this might be uncomfortable for some viewers. The emotional repercussions of the characters affected are seen.
  • Emotional scenes that may upset some people. These are infrequent however.

Violence & Gore

  • A minor character falls out of a window from a building and dies, nothing is seen

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A minor character, who is one of Carrie's many boyfriends throughout the show, is a recovering alcoholic. This character is only seen for a few episodes, but he ends up relapsing and is seen highly intoxicated.
  • Carrie tries to quit smoking cigarettes a few times throughout the series and does so for a little while (this part of the plot in some episodes). Ultimately she ends up smoking secretively and takes it up as a habit again

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A main character learns that she has breast cancer in the later seasons. She is seen going through chemotherapy and losing/shaving her hair. This isn't portrayed in an overly depressing way since the character affected is very positive about it.
  • A character has testicular cancer and ends up losing a testicle. This negatively affects the character emotionally and is discussed in some episodes.
