Sex & Nudity

  • On several occasions we see part of Tom Hanks' butt while he wears a self-fashioned loin cloth. In one scene, his entire right butt cheek is completely exposed and seen.
  • Some passionate kisses.

Violence & Gore

  • A plane crashes and presumably kills everyone onboard except for Chuck (we don't see their deaths, although we later see one body).
  • As a plane falls to the ocean, a co-pilot gets up and his head gets hit by the roof due to the strong frequent motion of the falling plane. We then see him with blood on his face as he cries in pain.
  • A huge wave knocks Chuck from his raft and we see his legs bang painfully, and bloodily, on some sharp coral.
  • Chuck punctures himself in the hand while attempting to build a fire. We see a hole in his hand and blood gushing out.
  • Chuck knocks his tooth out with the blade of a skating shoe; there's a spurt of blood and he faints from the pain.

Profanity

  • 1 use of goddamn and shithole
  • 1 use of shithole 2 uses of hell and damn 1 paired with god
  • At least 1 "shit", 2 "hell", 1 "damn" and 1 "goddamn".
  • 1 muted "fuck", but it's barely heard.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Chuck talks about at the beginning of the film about a toothache he is having. After getting casted away on the island, it is shown that he has abscess tooth and it is very hard to watch. But the biggest part is when he has to pull it out and uses a pair of skates to do so. We hear him weep slightly in pain, then counting down to when he rips the tooth out and is shown blood gushing out of his mouth to him passing out. This the hardest scene to watch in the movie.
  • Some chaotic scenes inside an airplane where the handful of passengers are crashing around and becoming injured while the plane loses control, crashes on water, and sinks in several parts. A man is thrown into the ceiling where he bangs his head hard enough to draw blood. After a few moments, the plane slams into the ocean (seen only from the inside of the plane) and quickly fills with water and Chuck finds himself trying to get out before it sinks. It is implied that Chuck is the only survivor.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Chuck pulls a dead body out of the ocean. It's skin is pale green and quite gross

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Chuck finds the decaying remains of one of the pilots once he reaches the island, and the scene is emotional (he also finds a photo on the dead man of him and his children). Chuck brings it ashore and buries it.
  • An emotional scene shows Chuck mourning after he loses his self-made companion, "Wilson".
  • Chuck talks of committing suicide and how he used a wooden dummy to test the rope before he was going to hang himself.
