When Sgt. White marches the new arrivals to their platoon barracks, the men appear to have glider patches on their caps; and a few days later, they are wearing 82nd Airborne shoulder patches. Neither of these things would happen in Airborne training. To be a paratrooper and wear the glider patch, one must have completed training and earned his wings. And, no one would be assigned to Airborne units until that time. But for the dozen or so movie stars in the film, the rest of the men were obviously trained paratroopers and assigned to units of the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg.
