The casual bash celebrates the work of those from Ireland — and some who are not — who contribute to film, television and music.

In addition to an enormously successful career as a stand-up comedian and a stint as a cast member on "Saturday Night Live," Chris Rock has starred in several acclaimed feature films. While much of Rock's cinematic work revolves around the signature humor he's known for in his stand-up, he has branched out to different genres, including crime thrillers and horror. Immensely magnetic, Rock commands full attention whenever he's on screen, elevating the projects he appears in, even on the occasions when he takes a supporting role.
More than just an actor, Rock is a solid filmmaker in his own right, producing, writing, and directing several projects. With a big screen career that began in the '80s, Rock has dozens of movies under his belt and is among the more underrated actors in Hollywood, evidenced by the bold choices in his performances. The stage is set for tomorrow nights awards; red carpet out, lighting set, roads closed, and security up. The crowds are even larger than usual in Hollywood, with movie fans out in force to see the pageantry. Temperatures are cooler than usual, but by this time tomorrow night the town will be hot!

As the major studios tinker with photorealistic character designs, can Hollywood find the future of animation in its past?
This weekend, families with hit their local multiplex to relive the wonder of Beauty and the Beast in its new live-action format. And whether the film is a runaway hit or only a modest success, Disney shows no signs of plugging its pipeline of live-action remakes. According to this 2016 Time piece, Disney is currently working on no fewer than twelve (that’s one-two) remakes of their popular animated films, meaning twelve more movies featuring up-and-coming actresses, revamped musical numbers, and CGI creatures that take a deep, deep dive into the uncanny valley.
While this brand new surge of Disney movies are likely to each be a technical wonder, for my money, there’s something oddly pedestrian about converting the beautiful Disney animated character designs into a series of photorealistic CGI models. While...

Let's get one thing straight before we begin. Bill Murray is the King. There are better actors. There are people who have better filmographies. There are even funnier people, although not many. But Bill Murray is, all things, considered, the King. I've dedicated much of the last 45 years working this out scientifically, and I am prepared to finally share the findings with you, free of charge, right here at HitFix. Ostensibly, we're doing this because of this weekend's release of "Rock The Kasbah," but that's just an excuse. The truth is that it's important that we rank all 55 of Bill Murray's film performances, with a special focus on the top 25. We are not including his television work here. There are films on this list we have not seen, but not many. We decided to leave those films unranked, so here is that list: Unranked "The Hat Act" "Pass The Buck: Expo '74...

2016 is set to be a pivotal summer, too. There are big movies in both the DC and Marvel cinematic universes. Warner Bros is looking to launch the first of six King Arthur movies, whilst Universal may get cracking with its classic monster cinematic universe. And - yep - we may even get the world's first great film based on a videogame.
Summer blockbuster season 2016 stretches from March through to August, and here's what treats are lined up. Please note, we've gone with Us release dates, for the purposes of this feature, as that's where most of the films will debut first.

Pixar has a lot riding on their new feature “Inside Out” if they want to recapture their 2000s golden age as the quintessential leaders of animation. The colorful story of an adventure that takes place inside the mind of a little girl is the studio’s first film in two years (They released one every year since 2006’s “Cars”). It’s also their first original, non-sequel project since 2012’s charming but underwhelming “Brave," as well as the triumphant return of director Pete Docter after he helmed “Up," the second greatest animated film of '00s in this writer’s opinion (It loses to “Wall-e” by a tiny margin). Yes, the premise sounds like a mix of “Osmosis Jones” (an under appreciated animated feature in its own right), and the lesser-known early '90s sit-com "Herman’s Head." However, all of the marketing materials we’ve seen so far, along with...

“How was the first day at school?”
No kid ever wants to be asked this question – and Inside Out’s Riley is no exception. More than likely, that first day of school was full of anxiety, hope, fear, and excitement, but who wants to talk about your feelings when you’re a kid?
Eleven-year-old Riley’s conflicting emotions may be par for the course, but in Inside Out, we’re literally going into Riley’s mind, where all of her feelings have become characters á la Osmosis Jones, and have taken up shop in her brain, “Headquarters.”
Headquarters is led by Joy (Amy Poehler), Riley’s most dominant trait, but after being uprooted from her Midwest home, her other emotions – Disgust (Mindy Kaling), Fear (Bill Hader), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), and Anger (Lewis Black) – are starting to take over.
Check out the first trailer for Inside Out below:...

A secret cameo has been revealed in a new clip from the Farrelly brothers' forthcoming Dumb and Dumber To.
In the 51-second clip, Harry Dunne (played by Jeff Daniels) introduces Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) to his new boiler-suit and goggle-clad flatmate called Ice Pick.
"How's it going, Ice Pick?" Harry asks
"The best day ever. It really is the greatest day," the familiar-sounding character in disguise responds.
Watch the clip below and see if you are able to guess the identity of the Oscar-nominated actor (who appears to be channelling Bryan Cranston's Walter White):

The first trailer for Pixar's "Inside Out" has all the feels… because they're the stars of the movie. From Academy Award-winner Pete Doctor (2009's "Up"), "Inside Out" tells the story of a little girl named Riley and the anthropomorphic emotions that live inside her head. When she relocates from the Midwest to San Francisco, it's up to Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), and Fear (Bill Hader) to keep her keepin' on. Think "Osmosis Jones" of the abstract. To sell the studio's first original concept since 2012's "Brave," Walt Disney Pictures's first trailer reminds everyone to trust in Pixar. We lapped up "Toy Story," "Monsters University," "Wall-e" and "Up," so why not a movie about our bickering emotions? The move comes off a little like fishing for compliments, but c'mon, are we so cynical that we can't appreciate everything Pixar's done for Hollywood cinema?...

We’ve reviewed every summer movie season since 1980 to find out which are the best, and which are the worst. Last week we posted our picks for the worst, and here we post our picks for the best.
2015 and 2016 may just be the most overthetop summer movie seasons yet. It seems like nearly every movie slated for a summer 2015 or 2016 release is heavily anticipated. Because of these impending summers of movie awesomeness, we’ve decided to take a look back at summer movie seasons of years past. The idea of the summer movie season is currently in full swing, but it didn’t catch on immediately. Hollywood had to do its fair share of experimenting to determine what types of films would be most successful. As a result, some summer movie seasons have been better than others. We’ve reviewed them all for you and ranked them from worst to best.

Bill Murray became a movie star 35 years ago this week, upon the release of "Meatballs" on June 29, 1979. His lead role as the head counselor at a sub-par summer camp marked a number of firsts: his first of four movies with director Ivan Reitman (the others were "Stripes" and the two "Ghostbusters"), his first of six movies with writer Harold Ramis (the four Reitman films, plus "Caddyshack" and "Groundhog Day"), and his first taste of mega-stardom beyond his TV fame on "Saturday Night Live."
Since then, his career has taken on a trajectory unique in the history of film, one in which he's gone from comic goofball to dramatic thespian, from universally beloved to acquired taste, and from manic cynic to soft-spoken spiritual seeker. Through it all, however, there have been a few constants; no matter whether he's a grubby groundskeeper or a morose mogul: Murray's character is always the coolest...

Our voyage through history's underappreciated films arrives at the year 2001, and a vintage year for lesser-seen gems...
Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C Clarke may have seen 2001 as the year we'd head off to meet alien intelligences in the depths of space, but in reality, its cinematic landscape was dominated by fantasy rather than extra-terrestrials. Rowling and Tolkien dominated the box office, with Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone and The Fellowship Of The Ring earning almost $1bn each, while Monsters, Inc and Shrek thrilled old and young audiences alike.
At the other end of the spectrum of success, 2001 was such a vintage year for movies that we had to whittle our usual selection of 25 films down from an initial selection of more than 40. This is why the decision was made - with heavy heart - to exclude some of our favourite films,...

For this list, blame The Hangover Part III. It was whilst walking out of that film that I got into a chat with someone, who was bemoaning the lack of genuinely funny movie comedies. Certainly, big budget Hollywood comedies have no end of problems right now - with the occasional exception - but I couldn't help thinking of the many neglected gems that had gone through my DVD player over the past decade or so.
As such, I started to put this list together. It's inevitably subjective, as one person's comedy is another person's snore fest. But I've tried to dig out a mix of comedies from the past three decades that have either flown under the radar completely, or...

With the release of "Lost in Translation" ten years ago, everyone was finally forced to take Bill Murray seriously. Even the Academy finally noticed him and gave him a Best Actor nomination, the only one he's received so far.
By this time, he'd been paring down his craft for 30 years until, with the help of directors like "Translation"'s Sofia Coppola and "Rushmore"'s Wes Anderson, he'd achieved a kind of Zen purity. After that, he could choose to play the smartass clown (as in his early roles) or the serious thespian, or somewhere in between. With no agent and plenty of savings, he could pick and choose projects at whim and do only what he felt like doing. So even his lesser movies seemed like labors of love; after all, there must have been something personally appealing to him in those roles to coax him off the golf course.

In 2003, William James Murray (better known to those who haven't spent hours reading his Wikipedia page as Bill Murray) starred in Sofia Coppola's "Lost in Translation," a poignant, somber romantic comedy that spotlighted the budding relationship between an aging film star (Murray) and the lonely wife of a photographer (Scarlett Johansson) in Tokyo. Murray was nominated for an Oscar for said performance, but he ultimately lost to Sean Penn's turn in "Mystic River."
At one point, he also did the Garfield movies.
But herein lies the massive injustice. Bill Murray should have been nominated for an Academy Award for every other movie he's done. There. We said it. I'm going to make a confession now, and I understand that more than a few of you may not be amused in the least (so to speak) - I have never found The Farrelly Brothers funny, except for when I was 11 and we watched Osmosis Jones in Biology class. In fact, I did not even crack a single smile when watching There's Something About Mary. But because of my eternal fascination with the mythology of The Devil I can't help but be at least somewhat interested in their latest acquisition, an...

Walt Disney and Pixar Studios pulled the curtain back on three upcoming films at CinemaCon 2012. We got release dates, directors and producer teams as well as one-sentence descriptions from Disney. Without knowing anything more, we give our ideas as far as what we can expect based on who’s involved and the established track record of the wonderful world of Pixar. We know that they’ll be all-ages films, we know they’ll be full of heart, imagination, and complete characters. Parents of infants and toddlers, take note: get ready to be inundated with dinosaurs, aztecs, and the inner workings of… the brain?
The Good Dinosaur
U.S. Release Date: May 30, 2014
Directed by Bob Peterson (Up/Finding Nemo)
Produced by John Walker (The Incredibles)
Official description: What if the cataclysmic asteroid that forever changed life on Earth actually missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct?

With a stretch of movies starting with Osmosis Jones in 2001, all the way to Hall Pass just last year, the recent "comedies" of brothers Peter & Bobby Farrelly between there have included Shallow Hal, Stuck on You, Fever Pitch and The Heartbreak Kid. It's not exactly an Uwe Boll worthy line-up of films, but these are easily some of the worst comedies of their given years of release. Taking that into account, you'd think the Farrelly Brothers were just hacks who can't seem to do anything but inexplicably fit Richard Jenkins into most of their films. But there was a time when the sibling duo actually used to make very funny movies. In "honor" of The Three Stooges, which currently sits with a low 43% on Rotten Tomatoes, I'd like to look back at the 8-year run of four films that gave Bobby and Peter Farrelly the career that they ...

The Three Stooges arrive back on cinema screens next year, courtesy of The Farrelly Brothers. But will the first trailer make you laugh? Find out here…
We reckon you have to go back to Kingpin for the last really enjoyable, really funny live action Farrelly Brothers movie (although 2001’s Osmosis Jones remains an underrated gem, with a strong case for it being their best film). And we’re fully aware, too, that not all of you enjoyed that flick as much as we did.
So what chance does their take on The Three Stooges have? Well, quite a lot. Given the directors’ talent for physical comedy, and the nature of The Three Stooges’ comedy, this new take on the adventures of Larry, Curly and Moe might just stand a chance.
A first trailer for the film has now been released, so you can get a flavour of what to expect.

Brothers Peter and Bobby Farrelly have made some good comedies (Osmosis Jones, There’s Something About Mary, Shallow Hal) but the ones that stands out above those is actually one of my favorite comedies of all time, Dumb & Dumber. There have been talks of a sequel for years and after the travesty that was Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd many thought all was lost.
The brothers have wrapped production on their big screen version of The Three Stooges and now hope to move on to a sequel to the 1994 hit. Deadline reports that they intend to bring back Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels and original producers Charles B. Wessler, Brad Krevoy and Steve Stabler. A script is being written by Sean Anders and John Morris (Sex Drive). Now this is unexpected, and exciting. I only hope this isn’t to build buzz around the current Stooges project which has...

If one were in the mood for arguing, one could argue that the Farrelly Brothers were quite a force to be reckoned with in the 1990s. With big hits such as "Dumb and Dumber" and "There's Something About Mary," things seemed to only be looking up for the directors.
However, the 2000s were less kind to them as they released a slew of subpar comedies including the aweful "Osmosis Jones," "Stuck On You," and the recent "Hall Pass." When it was originally announced that the directors would be taking on a project regarding the lives of the Three Stooges, I was very interested.
Not only would the Stooges tragic story make for an interesting film, but the rumor mill at one point had Sean Penn attached to the film. Yet, the casting of Penn turned out to be merely hearsay and the roles went to Sean Hayes, Will Sasso, and Chris Diamantopoulos.

They were once cutting-edge comics with talent to burn; now they're sharing screen time with CGI co-stars and corny critters. Ellen E Jones reports on the family comedy club
For musicians, it's 27; the mystical age at which the unlucky succumb to the consequences of their career-dictated lifestyle. For movie stars, it's more like 49. And for them, it's not heroin, or booze, or depression; it's family comedies. You want proof? This weekend you can witness Jim Carrey, esteemed star of The Truman Show and Dumb & Dumber, and six CGI penguins breakdancing all over the grave of his serious acting ambitions in Mr Popper's Penguins. Carrey turned 49 in January, and the film marks his ascension into a not-so-exclusive fellowship of once-intriguing actors who now make family comedies.
Remember the 33-year-old Steve Martin who made The Jerk in 1979? At 49, he made the dismal Sgt Bilko and now mostly diverts his genius into Cheaper by the Dozen sequels.

Not every movie can be a hit, and some blockbusters offer far more than their big budget and failure to dominate the box office might suggest. Here's our look at ten fascinating failures...
There are blockbuster movies that fail for good reason. Jonah Hex, Town & Country, Catwoman - they deserved their fate, really. In fact, there are films that made bucketloads of cash that didn't deserve their success, too. You can probably name a few of them quite easily.
But what we're interested in here are the blockbuster movies that struggled to make an impact, yet have something about them that makes them worthy of discussion many, many years later. Some of the films we're about to discuss are outright box office flops. Some simply didn't meet commercial expectations. All of them, to some degree, disappointed the studios that backed them.
Some of these aren't, all in honesty, particularly good.

Word is that Shawn Levy has his eye on Hugh Jackman, as the actor is currently the director's first choice to slide, slide, slippety-slide into the lead role of the science fiction movie Fantastic Voyage. If Jackman were to come onboard, it would be a continuation of his work with Levy, who directed the Wolverine star in this year's Real Steel.
Fantastic Voyage is a remake of a 1966 film with the killer premise of a bunch of scientists who shrink themselves down to go inside a guy's body and save his life, one which has been parodied, homaged and outright swiped by pretty much every cartoon since then. The new version will be in 3D (of course) and produced by James Cameron (also, of course), so expect to see at least two red blood cells cominatchya every 10 seconds.
Just call it Osmosis Jones 2: Back in the Bloodstream and be done with it.

While I'm not sure it's something to hang my hat on, but the Farrelly Brothers are in a select group of directors that I can say I've seen every movie they've made (even Osmosis Jones). Think of me what you will, but everyone needs a good mindless comedy with a few gross-out gags sprinkled in for good measure from time to time; especially around this time of year when the winter blues are in full swing. Hall Pass is not an award-winning movie by any means, but it accomplishes everything it sets out to ...Read more at MovieRetriever.com...

Subject: Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly, two fifty-something American directors, writers, and producers
Date of Assessment: February 25, 2011
Positive Buzzwords: Outrageous, no-holds barred
Negative Buzzwords: Gross-out humor, resistant to growth
The Case: It's one thing when directors corner a market for a specific type of film, but it's another matter altogether when an audience begins to outgrow a pair of directors who, quite simply, refuse to mature along with their viewers. That's the only conclusion that I can glean from the steady box-office decline of the Farrelly Bros, who have continued to recycle their immature potty humor as a means to providing gross-out comedies for an audience who no longer laughs. While these two directors have been stuck up their own asses (figuratively, I hope), R-rated comedy has also witnessed the rise of Judd Apatow, who co-mingles some of the same outrageous comedic aspects with a bit more sweetness and humanity...

Whatever happened to Peter and Bobby Farrelly? One minute, they're making 'Dumb and Dumber' and 'There's Something About Mary' and doing a pretty good job of defining a new generation of raunchy, gross-out comedy, and then 'Osmosis Jones' happens to them. And 'Shallow Hal.' And 'Fever Pitch.' And finally, 'The Heartbreak Kid,' which may not have been a nail in the coffin, but it was definitely a nice solid kick to their careers' shin.
Well, they've had a few years to lick to their wounds and now they've returned to the cinematic scene, bringing with them a trailer for their newest opus, 'Hall Pass.' It's a simple enough premise: two women give their bumbling husbands a week-long "hall pass" to pretend they're not married and do whatever, and presumably whomever, they want. Complications...

Hey gang! Here we have a first look at Disney's new animated short film, Tick Tock Tale. The short was directed by Dean Wellins, a three-time annie award nominated animator who's worked on animated film projects such as The Iron Giant, Osmosis Jones, Treasure Planet, Chicken Little, Bolt and The Princess and the Frog.
Synopsis:
A funny little clock (something out of Geppetto’s workshop, really) is picked on by the more refined time keepers in a London store, only to find a chance at redemption when a thief breaks in one night.
I'm not sure when we will get a chance to see the full short, but it looks entertaining.

R&B star Brandy is facing a new legal wrangle - a DJ is suing her for allegedly pulling out of a deal to write and record a song with him. Marc Mysterio claims he paid Brandy $10,000 (GBP6,670) a month ago, in July, but she never came through with the music.
According to TMZ, who have obtained the lawsuit, Mysterio claims he's lost more than $25,000 (GBP16,600) as a result of Brandy's alleged stand-off.
Professionally, beside being a singer, Brandy has also starred in several big screen projects. Some movies she has starred include "Cinderella", "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer" and "Osmosis Jones". As for small screen projects, she has starred in "Moesha", "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch", "American Dreams", "One on One" and "This Little Piggy".

There are thousands upon thousands of examples of films using the same plot tactics and lines. One of the more popular ones comes up when a small band of heroes are trying to focus on something (hacking a computer, saving a princess from the detention center in the Death Star, etc.) when a group of baddies show up to take them down. The inevitable line? "We've Got Company!" Now, thanks to the wonderful internet, someone has made a compilation. Made into a montage by The Guy Bauer Half Hour, this short clip features thirty different movies, from Star Wars to Osmosis Jones, where characters say the oft repeated line. They even found it in subtitles! Also interesting is the fact that the phrase is one of those that if repeated enough, eventually sounds like nonsense. Check out the video below.

Can you hear that creaking noise? It's the sound of the Farrelly brothers-led "Hall Pass" straining beneath the weight of the huge -- and ever-growing -- ensemble cast. A group that currently includes Owen Wilson, Amanda Bynes, Jenna Fischer, "The Office" star Stephen Merchant, "Saturday Night Live" comic Jason Sudeikis, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" favorite J.B. Smoove (Leon!), Nicky Whelan and Derek Waters.
Today, The Hollywood Reporter brings the news that four more have joined the cast: Christina Applegate, Alyssa Milano, "According to Jim" star Larry Campbell and "Weird Science" TV series star Vanessa Angel. Whew.
Frankly, I think Peter and Bobby Farrelly are due for a hit. They've been quiet these past few years, their most recent effort being "The Heartbreak Kid" in 2007, which didn't fare so well with critics or at the box office. 88,000? Do your math; I rounded up to be safe.
The Lorax I am not, I do not speak for the trees. I however do speak for the Me-Tree, the tree that’s me (Dr. Seuss was a genius, I’m not. I know.) There is a strong difference between a person’s “favorites” and what a person thinks are the “best.” Many lists seem to forget that very important fact. Sure, I think There Will Be Blood, Let The Right One In, Pan’s Labyrinth, Requiem For A Dream, Synecdoche, New York (etc.) are probably some of the best films of the decade as far as craft, performances, and technique goes, but they might not make the list (you have to read further to find out.) They might not be flicks that I want to revisit all the time for leisure or laughs. As for the types of movies that usually gravitate toward my favorites,...

Funnyman Chris Rock has been selected to host the next Oscars. Gil Cates, producer of the 77th Academy Awards telecast, made the announcement Thursday. Although the winner of both Emmy and Grammy awards has performed hosting duties for other awards shows, this will be Rock's first stint as Oscar host. Rock, a veteran of TV's Saturday Night Live and In Living Color, and the star of several movies, made his mark via comedy specials and a series on HBO. "He always has something interesting to say," said Cates in a news release. "Chris represents the best of the new generation of comics. Having him host the Oscars is terrific. I can't wait." Rock currently is shooting The Longest Yard with former SNL castmate Adam Sandler. His other film credits include Head of State, Bad Company, Down to Earth, Nurse Betty, Osmosis Jones, New Jack City, Lethal Weapon 4 and Dogma. The ceremonies take place Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005.
