Summary
Reviewers say 'Family Guy' is celebrated for its irreverent humor, offbeat storytelling, and iconic characters. The show's boundary-pushing comedy and sharp social commentary resonate with many. Its rapid-fire gags and cutaway jokes maintain viewer engagement. However, the series faces criticism for inconsistent quality, with some episodes criticized for relying on shock value. The frequent use of cutaway gags can disrupt narrative flow. Despite these drawbacks, 'Family Guy' remains a significant and beloved animated sitcom.

Update: What kind of episodes would I want next in 2025 now that all Hollywood writers have ascended and became A. I. that floats freely in the air ? I want Family Guy to pay hommage to every single Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager episode. One ST episode at a time per each FG episode. Real FG fans will get the extremely specific ST references. --- Would be 10 stars, had this magnificent TV show not gotten a bit repetitive after season 15 or so. Still, 100s of 10-star episodes. And incredibly ballsy. Almost all the gags punch far below the waistline. The first time you watch every episode, your jaw drops to the floor. Insane the writers go there. Then you watch it a second time. Then you recall the jokes, they cross your mind, and you can't stop laughing. Also because, why would you even say all those things that this show's characters say. "I have Stratego in my mouth." "My happy place, in case I get malested." "Punch ... the baby ... in ... the face."
It's hard for me to rate this show. When looking back at the older seasons it seems to me like Seth and his crew had fun writing and voicing the characters. Occasionally there were musical numbers thrown into the mix, songs I know by heart and will forever be stuck in my head. Such as "Shipoopi" and "It's a wonderful day for pie"
We hardly get any of this nowadays. The gags are nowhere near as complex or funny as they used to be.
Seems to me like the only reason this show is still running is because there is money involved and because some people ( like me ) are naive enough to keep watching even tho it's not what it used to be.
I'm not angry at the state of this show, but it's sad to see what it's been reduced to.

Sure, there are plenty of flat episodes, especially after season 13. Sure they sometimes get more political than they should. But all in all, it's such a funny show. Just something to let your brain relax and take in a bunch of absurd humor. It's adult humor at its finest.
Now IMDB demands a character limit. I will say that I love this show with a passion and have seen all episodes at least 3 times, and every episode before season 13 at least 6 times each, but there's not much else to say other than: watch it.
Hoo boy. 72 characters left. Have you also tried Robot Chicken? That's a good show. But don't tell Seth McFarlane!! Wink wink.

If you want dark off-the-wall humour that will easily provide consistent yucks, then this is your animated comedy show.
The unworthy dismiss it as primetime lowbrow cutaway filth; this is not a show for them, this is a show for people who love to laugh yet find less and less things to laugh at as time goes on.
The show has strong expression of Jazz and Big Band references solidified through it's theme song, composed and effortlessly reiterated by Walter Murphy. If you're into Jazz music this alone is reason enough to watch.
Despite his modesty in interviews, Seth MacFarlane is a genius and we're going to really miss him when he's gone.

Family Guy is one of the best comedies of all-time. It's about the Griffin family (Peter, Lois, Stewie, Meg and Chris) and their talking dog Brian. I don't even know how to explain how much I absolutely love this show. It has been a laugh out loud funny show for over 20 years now. It's a crude and rude show that says all the things we wish we could say. That's what makes it so funny. It's easily one of my favorite comedies of all-time! Seth McFarlane is just an absolute genius who has done the impossible and that's make a show remain hilarious for over 2 decades now. There's not much I can say about this incredible show that hasn't already been said so just do yourself a favor and go watch it...you won't regret it.

- GoofsWhen shown a quick view of Cleveland's House it is one and a half story Cape Cod house, like Peter's House. But, whenever Peter does one of his "Shenanigans' near Cleveland's house, it is a full two story, non-Cape Cod home.
- Quotes
Peter Griffin: Brian, there's a message in my Alpha Bits. It says "OOOOOO".
Brian Griffin: Peter, those are Cheerios.
- Crazy creditsIn the new HD seasons intro, the generic dancers on the stairs are replaced by actual characters from the show.
- Alternate versionsSome episodes air in a somewhat-edited version in their original FOX airings and syndicated airings, but air in a racier, "uncut" version on Adult Swim, with some extra scenes or alternate versions of scenes. However, Adult Swim still bleeps the most profane of language.
