This comment concerns Episode #10 of the 1964 . . .
pixrox126 June 2023
. . . Season, broadcast on Oct. 31, 1964. The amateur clown squad running this site and Wikipedia do not have the slightest inkling of how to research primary source material--such as TV Guides--or possess the ability to perform rudimentary data entry. Surely these clueless losers will be erased by Artificial Intelligence soon. Anyway, this episode--minus most of sponsor Kellogg's advertisements--is presented as a "Bonus Feature" running 22 minutes, 52 seconds on Disc 3 of what became "The Woody Woodpecker & Friends Cartoon Collection, Volume 1." It consists of interludes including original animation with Woody's creator/producer/sometimes director/sometimes animator Walter L-a-n-t-z, aka "The Good Walt." The three included cartoons, in order, are UNDER THE COUNTER SPY, PLAYFUL PELICAN and the only classic-period Woody episode made for TV, SPOOK-A-NANNY.

Fun

"The Woody Woodpecker Show" takes us on a nostalgic journey back to the classic era of animation, where Woody's mischievous antics bring a smile to our faces. While the animation and voice acting capture the essence of the character, the show's format and repetitive gags may feel a bit dated. The film editing and cinematography reflect the simplicity of its time, and the music carries the whimsical tone beautifully. The show's strength lies in its ability to evoke a sense of nostalgia and the timeless charm of Woody himself. While it may lack the complexity of modern cartoons, it offers a wholesome reminder of the golden age of animation. With a 6/10 rating, "The Woody Woodpecker Show" remains a pleasant trip down memory lane, proving that classic cartoons can still provide a decent dose of entertainment.

Pretty fun

This one is pretty similar to Looney tunes and Bugs Bunny. It's good. Woody is hilarious and other characters are interesting too. Definitely a funny show.

Watch out for that crazy Woodpecker!!!
raysond1 August 2000
Its a crying shame that Woody and his friends aren't on either Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network. But that Woodpecker was the best ever in getting even with characters that were interrupting his beloved home or trying to get even with him like Pete Buzzard, Wally Walrus,or that annoying Gabby Gator. Walter Lantz' creation was some of the best animated around, and at times very funny, cause that Woodpecker was crazy!!! Still,Woody applied the laughs, and in turn brought out the kid in all of us. One of my best shows ever from childhood. By the way,who can remember that crazy laugh?

Great cartoon fun with our favourite woodpecker!
TheLittleSongbird19 March 2010
I absolutely love this show, it is such a lot of fun. It is a real shame though you don't see it very much on TV if at all. Like Looney Tunes, Scooby Doo, Flintstones, Tom and Jerry and TopCat, plus numerous cartoons from the 80s and 90s like DangerMouse, Count Duckula, DuckTales, Talespin and Darkwing Duck, this was a show I refused to miss. I loved the characters, the detail of the animation, the music, everything. There may be some episodes with rather hectic pacing, but hey so did some of the Tom and Jerry cartoons and they were still a lot of fun regardless. The animation is very detailed, with crisp backgrounds especially, and the music was a lot of fun. So were the characters, you have to love Woody and Wally was hilarious. Plus, the stories were interesting, and most importantly, it was funny! Overall, this is a great show. 9/10 Bethany Cox

The woodpecker that made the childhood of many unparalleled!
Kalashnikovin10 September 2022
I am very fond of this Great Cartoon, Woody Woodpecker was a Character that although he is no longer so relevant today, at least you should appreciate what came before and how animation worked at that time, this Mythical Woodpecker was born from a problem with a Real bird that Walter Lantz had, the creator of the series, his wife advised him to create a caricature of the animal, and thus Woody Woodpecker was born!

Although it is practically Bugs Bunny in the body of a Bird, both stand out in different things, Woody was even more Crazy and Energetic than bugs, although that is not relevant because both characters are equally good, Woody's Character in his In the beginning he was someone mean and with a bizarre and somewhat disturbing design, but over the years he became the Animal that we all know and love.

The animation in this series was quite good almost to the Grade of MGM or Warner Bros at that time, it was detailed, the backgrounds were impeccable and the movements were fluid, the Character Designs, although at first they were bizarre and somewhat ugly, with As time changed and became more Pleasing to the Eye, the original series dropped in quality in the mid-50s, and although it was still good animation, it was quite inferior and somewhat simplistic compared to the Original Animation.

The Music was also Good, Frank Marsales composed the First appearance of Woody and then some Composers followed him, the music was always the same but it always had that tone of joy and fun that we all enjoyed!.

The voice acting was pretty good, at first Mel Blanc did Woody's voice and even gave him his Biggest Feature, his iconic laugh!, then Lantz's Wife did Woody's Voice and the rest is not relevant, the Other characters also have good voices, although Woody is the one who stands out the most in this regard.

In itself, Woody Woodpecker may not be as relevant today but he was a somewhat influential character who gave laughter and fun to our parents and grandparents, and also to us! He had an Excellent Humor and was Easily visible due to the Charisma and Sympathy of the Characters.

In Conclusion, an excellent cartoon that Marked thousands of Childhoods with its Great and Healthy Humor, a funny Cartoon with many good qualities, great characters and impressive animation and music, the series par Excellence of Walter Lantz and in general, of all Universal Studios!.

WHY WOODY WOODPECKER STANDS OUT FROM BUGS BUNNDY, DAFFY DUCK, AND MORE
hillboys-4280030 July 2022
(Now I know what you're thinking, "why are you reviewing this now, this is 2022 and this cartoon has been around since 1940" well this just my some what little details of woody woodpecker to tell who he is so don't think to much about it alrighty) Woody woodpecker is a zany, screwy woodpecker that is not to popular today. Woody has became the shell of The character he once was yet something about him stand out from the screwy looney tune character at the time like bugs bunny, or daffy duck. Despite all of these characters being zany and wacky, daffy and bugs kinda had a little kinder side to them. Woody was made more rude and cruel, putting his enemies (especially Wally walrus and buzz buzzard) to the there breaking point. Another thing that makes him different to a lot of cartoons in his time is that he's very colorful bird which also explains why he is very popular in Brazil (I think) red, whites, reds, blues, greens. Birds are very known for being colorful and bright in Brazil. Parrots, macaws, Tuscans. Though Woody's colors have toned down in 1944. I hope woody can peck back like he once did and get a new successful animated series.

Ok, ok... it wasn't short at all.

Unpopular Opinion
mrsemmaemely19 August 2020
Alright, let me get this straight, this series is unoriginal and bland. You wanna know the reason why? Well, let me explain.

The first reason that this show is unoriginal because it basically takes the idea of Looney Tunes, eats it up, and throws it up on a hot sunny day; it basically rips off Looney Tunes cartoons and makes them child friendly/boring. Why? Well, if we compare Woody and Bugs Bunny they're similar, and that's because Woody Woodpecker was made by the same person who created Bugs Bunny. But, Woody Woodpecker was made 6 months later than Bugs Bunny, making Woody a carbon copy of Bugs Bunny. They do similar things (attacking others, annoying them), but Bugs Bunny has a bigger personality, has an identity, and is more popular. Woody? Has all of those traits to a certain extent, but doesn't have much of an identity, lacks personality, and isn't really likeable (referring to the lack of identity and personality, and how the laugh is very irritating). Basically, the show is like Looney Tunes but you remove the very reason why it is popular (identity, diversity of content, value) and make it a stereotypical cartoon. TL;DR The Woody Woodpecker show is basically like Looney Tunes, but bland and disposable.

If you look at the episodes, the plot is Woody just annoying a person or another character. Guess what some of the Looney Tunes plots are. That's right, a character annoying a person or another character. The difference is that they have a personality that doesn't make them a huge jerk and makes them believable. And the terrible animation makes the cartoon so disposable (I know that animation in cartoons during this time was mediocre and infamous for being watered down compared to previous years, but like this show was a continuation of the theatrical releases of the cartoons in the 1940s, how did the animation go from being admittedly one of the best to just downright a hot pile of ash?).

Anyway, it lacks anything interesting and the cartoons are frankly stereotypical. Woody is like if you got Bugs Bunny and removed his carrot, made him laugh like he committed a murder and removed his iconic lines, and never paid him to act.

Don't mind me, Just making my response to mrsemmaemely

You're over here saying that Woody is a carbon copy of Bugs, but do you even realize that at that time Bugs was also a carbon copy himself, now let's see here who was he a carbon copy of? Oh yeah that's right, Daffy, Bugs was basically Daffy but if he was given a carrot, Daffy was created in 1937 while Bugs was created in 1938, so really and truly Bugs and Woody were both carbon copies, and while yes, Woodys personality was unoriginal, atleast in the 50s all three of their personalities were changed, Daffy was less of a screwball character and was more of a mean spirited duck, Bugs was less of a wacky character and was more of a calm, laid back, outsmarter, Woody was less of a crazy character and was more of a kind, sweet, and gentle little bird who would still attack people, so while yes, Woody was unoriginal, he wasn't ALWAYS unoriginal, also, Woody annoying/attacking people makes him unoriginal? Do you not realize that back then annoying/attacking was a common thing? So please, don't come over here acting like Looney Tunes was the one that started that on going trend, cause they didn't.

Strange thing to write about it ! Because its laugh, its adventures, its smart gestures , its friends and its victories are so close by us. A lost world in which everything was seductive, provocative, cruel in soft manner. To define Woody Woodpecker represents to define yourself as part of an old and lovely time.

Warning: Spoilers
Before Woody Harrelson was a star, I enjoyed watching The Woody Woodpecker Show which had so much innocence in a time where the world was moving fast and on in ways that Woody Woodpecker would blush. I wish there was a reboot for sure, with Woody managing the impact of social media.
