Maren Morris is wearing the “lunatic” label as a badge of honour. So much so, the country star’s launching a t-shirt line with the Tucker Carlson-inspired moniker, with all proceeds benefiting trans rights groups.
The “Circles Around This Town” singer took to Instagram on Friday and posted a photo of a black T-shirt with the words “Maren Morris Lunatic Country Music Person” and the phone number “877-565-8860.” That number directs callers to Trans Line Life, a non-profit organization that offers emotional and financial support to trans people in crisis.
Trans Line Life is also one of the two organizations that’ll benefit from sales of Morris’ new merch. GLAAD’s Transgender Media Program is the other beneficiary. The program aims to work with the media to fairly and accurately tell the stories of transgender lives.

If Roe v. Wade is overturned by the Supreme Court, Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts wants to ban abortion in his state, and he wants that ban to apply to victims of rape.
CNN’s State of the Union host Dana Bash asked the governor about a recent effort he supported to pass a “trigger” abortion ban that would go into effect immediately if the Supreme Court rules to overturn abortion rights, which appears to be imminent considering the recently leaked Supreme Court draft opinion.

It feels like we’ve been here before. A C-list DC Comics villain has been brought to life by a major Hollywood talent—Idris Elba as Bloodsport in this case—only to be saddled in a seemingly generic scene with the character’s adolescent daughter. When we saw a variation of this cliché in the first Suicide Squad movie, it stood in for barebones character development; a familiar story beat which allowed Will Smith’s Deadshot to prove he really just wants to make his little girl proud. But that was then, and this is now. This is James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.
Hence when Elba’s incarcerated baddie takes a look at his daughter through prison plexiglass, and she reveals that she too has gotten pinched and is now awaiting a court date for nicking a smartwatch, he has only one question: Why did she get caught for swiping something so stupid?...

Rick Santorum responded to CNN’s decision to drop him as a commentator, claiming that he was the victim of the “intolerance of the left.”
He popped up on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show on Monday evening, two days after CNN confirmed that it had parted ways with him amid furor over comments he made about Native Americans.
“What I said was not at all disparaging of Native Americans,” Santorum told Hannity. “What I was talking about was the founding of the United States of America, and that Native Americans did not have a role in the founding of our country.”
At the Young America’s Foundation conference last month, Santorum said, “We birthed a nation. From nothing. There was nothing here. Yes, we have Native Americans, but there isn’t much Native American culture in American culture. It was born of the people who came here, pursuing religious liberty,...

Each weeknight, Fox News Channel’s primetime opinion hosts seek to own the libs. Greg Gutfeld says he wants to own some laughs.
In an unorthodox maneuver, executives at the Fox Corp.-owned cable-news outlet will explore whether jokes and satire can capture a crowd after 11 p.m. with “Gutfeld!,” which debuts Monday night. Fox is the latest in the media industry to try and blend news and comedy into a hybrid it hopes will sell.
“Human beings aren’t always 100% funny or 100% serious,” says Gutfeld in an interview, suggesting he has leeway to test concepts that Fox News viewers don’t usually see on weeknights. He has been honing his craft on Saturday nights, where he has led “The Greg Gutfeld Show,” another program that aims for fans of late-night styles and that Fox News says generates a substantial audience. Among the sketches presented there: a spoof ad for “Demotrex,...

When you gotta go, you gotta go. During Friday’s airing of “The Five” on Fox News, co-host Greg Gutfeld made an announcement that wasn’t meant for his viewers: “I gotta pee. I gotta peeeee.”
Gutfeld sang his untimely predicament while Juan Williams was trying to bring the show back in from a commercial break. The panel of gobsmacked co-hosts just watched and listened in with, “Um, what’s going on?” grins on their faces. Finally, colleague Jesse Watters jumped in, “You’re on the air.”
The co-hosts all laughed, and Watters said he’d be happy to take Gutfeld’s spot until he sorted out his business.
Later, after the moment had gained considerable traction on Twitter, Gutfeld posted a message for everyone who was concerned about how it all came out.
“Yes I peed,” he assured his 1.5 million followers on the platform.

Weekly ratings are in and for the first time Newsmax TV is included in Nielsen Media Research’s ratings list. For the week of June 29 to July 3, the network brought in an average of just 21,000 viewers.

Fox News’ Sandra Smith addressed the termination of her “America’s Newsroom” co-anchor Ed Henry on the air Wednesday morning.
“A moment now for some news about the co-anchor of this program, Ed Henry,” Smith said. “After a recent claim and investigation involving sexual misconduct in the workplace, Ed has been terminated from Fox News.”
She went on, “In an internal memo to employees, Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott and president and executive editor Jay Wallace addressed this very serious issue in an effort to bring full transparency to it and emphasized that we will continue to strive to maintain a safe and inclusive workplace for all employees. Rotating anchors will be sitting in with me until a replacement is named.”
Smith stayed on-message throughout the broadcast, reiterating what was released in the memo Wednesday morning and not ad-libbing.

Fox News said Wednesday it’s fired host Ed Henry of America’s Newsroom after an outside investigation of a complaint involving “willful sexual misconduct in the workplace years ago.”
Henry was suspended June 25 when the network received the complaint. Rotating news anchors will co-anchor the show from New York alongside Sandra Smith until a permanent replacement is found, Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott and Fox News Media President & Executive Editor Jay Wallace said in a memo to all employees.
“We would like to bring a very serious matter to your attention in an effort toward full transparency given the many actions we have taken to improve the culture here over the last four years,” the memo said.

John Oliver went to jail on Sunday, thematically, to bring attention to the disastrous conditions the coronavirus pandemic has created — or really, exacerbated — in the U.S. prison system.
“The five largest clusters of coronavirus are [in] correctional institutions, which is so terrible, it sounds like an announcement produced by some sort of bad news generator that spits out random sentences, like ‘Confederate statue inks 1o-episode deal with Quibi,’ or ‘TikTok hamster charged with 4 counts of vehicular manslaughter,’ or ‘Sean Hannity dating Ainsley Earhardt,'” Oliver said. “One of those is real, and it’s the worst one.”
Readers, especially those familiar with the “Daily Show” alum’s feelings on Fox News Channel, can probably figure out which one of those headlines real and thus, “the worst one.”

It’s been five years since Jon Stewart retired from “The Daily Show,” and the veteran comedian is still closely following politics and the news media. Stewart, who hosted the late-night show for 16 years, recently spoke to the New York Times’ David Marchese in a wide-ranging interview about current events, contemporary news coverage, and his legacy at “The Daily Show.”
His opinion on the latter-most point stemmed from a question regarding the current state of Fox News. Former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly was a frequent guest on “The Daily Show” during Stewart’s tenure and Stewart said that consistently giving O’Reilly such a large platform was possibly the worst aspect of his work on the comedy show.

It was 3 a.m. in Nairobi, Kenya when a man named Paul Simon — no relation to the singer — strapped on his virtual reality headset and hosted a discussion about George Floyd. The small event in Altspace, a social community run by Microsoft, found about a dozen cartoonish avatars standing around an expansive digital room as Simon explained his intent. “You guys should know that we are watching you,” Simon explained. “We have CNN here in Kenya, we have Fox News, we have all of that. It concerns some of us on a level that may be even more than in the U.S. This is personal.”
The ensuing conversation found Simon recapping his country’s history with colonialism, and juggling questions from the room. A stately man identified only as Tom, who helped Simon organize the event after meeting him at a weekly Vr town hall event called “The Evening News,...

Jimmy Fallon is facing backlash after a 20-year-old video of him in blackface portraying Chris Rock on “Saturday Night Live” resurfaced online.
The hashtag #jimmyfallonisoverparty began trending early Tuesday with Twitter users calling out the “Tonight Show” host for the racist skit, which first aired in 2000 and also features “SNL” alum Darrell Hammond. In the comedic sketch, Fallon does an impersonation of Rock while wearing full blackface to appear like the former cast member who was on “SNL” from 1990-1993.
Fallon has yet to respond to the criticism, and NBC did not immediately respond to Variety‘s request for comment. Rock was also not immediately available for comment when contacted by Variety.
The clip began to resurface late Monday night when a tweet by the user @chefboyohdear stated, “NBC fired Megyn Kelly for mentioning blackface. Jimmy Fallon performed on NBC in blackface.” The video has over 900,000 views on Twitter, and includes the hashtag #jimmyfallonisoverparty.

CBS News veteran Lesley Stahl revealed a weeks-long battle with coronavirus in the waning minutes of Sunday’s broadcast of “60 Minutes,” adding to the list of prominent journalists who have grappled with the disease.
CBS News and Stahl, who is 78 years old and the “60 Minutes” correspondent most associated to the show’s earlier days under founding producer Don Hewitt, had not disclosed her illness previously, though the ViacomCBS unit had made public in March that a number staffers at “60 Minutes” had tested positive.
“One of the rules of journalism is ‘Don’t become part of the story.’ But instead of covering the pandemic, I was one of the more than one million Americans who did become part of it,” Stahl said at the close of the newsmagazine’s Sunday broadcast,. “I wasn’t alone from this broadcast. One Covid-positive ’60 Minutes’ coworker had almost no symptoms, while others had almost every symptom you can imagine.

Viewership for all three of the nation’s main cable-news outlets soared in April as viewers tuned in at all hours for information on the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
While Fox News captured the most viewers during the month, CNN notched the biggest audience gain across its total day, scoring an increase of 179% in viewers between the ages of 25 and 54, the demographic most coveted by advertisers in news programs. Fox News, which had the most viewers in the category, saw an increase of 83% among viewers between 25 and 54, while MSNBC notched a gain of 54%.
The surge lent CNN its best month in the demo since 2005. At MSNBC, viewership in the advertiser demo in daytime programming was at its highest levels since April 2003.
The viewership increase has lent new momentum to certain programs, sometimes in unexpected time slots. At Fox News, for example, “Special Report with Bret Baier” and “The Story,...

Was a Disheveled Judge Jeanine Pirro Tipsy After Fox News Show Delayed for ‘Technical Difficulties’?
Jeanine Pirro’s Fox News show got a late start on Saturday night due to “technical difficulties” — but when the former New York state judge did appear nearly 15 minutes into her show, her usually perfectly coifed hair appeared disheveled and she seemed to many viewers to be tipsy in her verbal delivery.
“We apologize for the technical difficulties,” Pirro said when she finally appeared about a quarter into the one-hour broadcast after anchor Jackie Ibanez covered for her initial absence.
Pirro’s speaking was notably loose throughout the broadcast — which a network spokesperson attributed to the lack of a teleprompter in the host’s first broadcast from home. “Just the other … day the president talked, or was hoping, about the possibility of reopening everything on Easter Sunday, uh, in a way where we could kind of come out of this quarantine, as loose as it may be, that we’re involved in,...

President Donald Trump toured the Centers for Disease Control on Friday and, as he often does, he took questions from the press.
When a correspondent asked him a question about the administration’s response to the wave of cancellations of public events and other hits to the economy, Trump veered off into an aside about ratings. More specifically, he brought up the topic of how well his Fox News town hall did on Thursday night.
“As of the time I left the plane with you, we had 240 cases — that’s at least what was on a very fine network known as Fox News,” Trump said. “I know you love it. But that’s what I happened to be watching. And how was the show last night? Did it get good ratings, by the way?”
The reporter said he did not know.
“Oh really? I heard it broke all ratings records but maybe that’s wrong.

Roku and Fox Corp. announced that they reached a deal to keep Fox’s channels on the device maker’s platform, an 11th-hour agreement that means Fox apps will be available for Roku users to stream Sunday’s Super Bowl.
Fox Corp. said in a statement late Friday, “We are pleased to have reached a successful agreement with Roku. Fox’s leading suite of apps will continue to be available on the Roku platform.”
Roku, for its part, said, “We are delighted that we reached an agreement with Fox to distribute Fox channels on the Roku platform. Roku customers can stream the Super Bowl through Fox Now, Fox Sports and NFL in addition to other ways.”
Roku’s distribution deal with Fox Corp. was set to expire on Jan. 31 — and Roku had preemptively yanked all of the broadcaster’s apps from the Roku Channel Store as the two sides worked to hammer out a deal.

In the fall of 2018, just two weeks before the start of production on Bombshell, Jay Roach was scouting a location at The Huntington Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California, with some 50 members of his crew and executives from Annapurna when his cellphone rang. "I get a call from my agent saying, 'Don't say anything because we don't want everyone to panic, but your studio's out,' " Roach says. "I looked around and realized that our executives on it didn't even know."

Gayle King fired back at Jesse Watters on Thursday after the Fox News host publicly mistook her for “Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts on air during a broadcast of “The Five”
“I couldn’t believe this,” King told Stephen Colbert laughing about the incident on “The Late Show” Thursday. “So many people started sending this to me because I normally don’t watch Fox News.”
King said after watching Dana Perino correct her colleague on air, she sent a thank you email to her — which also included a pointed suggestion.

Tucker Carlson has lost another advertiser: seafood chain Red Lobster confirmed to TheWrap that it will drop the primetime Fox News program.
“Red Lobster’s advertising buying guidelines reflect our core values and commitment to supporting programming that represents the highest standards of good taste, fair practice and objectivity. We reserve the right to make changes to our purchases when the dialogue is no longer in line with our criteria,” the company said in a statement to TheWrap on Tuesday.
Online activists started an advertiser boycott last December when Carlson said illegal immigrants made the United States “poorer” and “dirtier,” and the show has since lost at least 25 sponsors. The program has run with fewer commercials in recent weeks.
