Country cousin
bkoganbing24 November 2015
Brothers Joey and Andrew Lawrence play cousins in this Disney Family film Horse Sense. Joey is a spoiled preppy California beach type gets a chance to live with his country cousin.

But first it's young Andrew who comes for a visit to the rich city folks and it's Joey who's put in charge of keeping him busy and happy. But Joey blows the poor kid off and as a punishment the parents cut him off from credit cards and send him to live in the country where his widowed aunt Susan Walters are just trying to hang on to their ranch and keep it out of the grasp of a Snidely Whiplash type villain.

Horse Sense is both something Joey develops and a nice family film to boot. In fact Joey's the one who saves the family ranch and what I liked about it shows he was paying attention in law school class more than anyone realized.

Perfect and cute...
RosanaBotafogo15 November 2022
A spoiled boy (Joey Lawrence) spends the summer at his cousin's (Andrew Lawrence) ranch and learns a valuable lesson about love and loyalty.

How cute, currently cliché, but at the time there were great teachings about valuing family and love for nature and the simple and essential things in life, very cute, from that "Afternoon Session" full of tenderness and affection that we love, simple production , but efficient, beautiful countryside images, impeccable photography, funny script, educational message, perfect and cute... Ownt, my surprise to learn that the protagonists are brothers, natural and spontaneous chemistry, what a dengo...

Best Disney Channel Original Movie!
mountain9123 November 2003
I saw this movie back in April 2000 when I was bored one Saturday afternoon and I was surfing through the channels and I found this movie playing on the Disney Channel. It looked entertaining right when I started to watch it. I loved this movie from beginning to end. I liked how the 2 antagonistic cousins put their differences aside and saved the one's ranch from foreclosure. I also liked it how the 2 cousins spent time having fun with one another on the ranch and getting to know each other. It does show what family members can do for each other and learn to love. I recommend this movie and the sequel Jumping Ship (2001) (TV) for everyone!

great family movie

The Lawrence Brothers are really good when it comes to comedy. Joey has come a long way since Blossom. He plays a real snobby rich jerk that eventually is forced to face the hard realities of life. His brother Andy is great as his cousin in this film. It is an emotionally good film and I hope Disney will get busy and release it on video and DVD.

Gorgeous Film
ladies_pinch8 September 2005
I Really really really liked this film i wanted to see it for ages but as i live in Britain they no channel ever showed it! But then the channel Trouble (who seem to be in love with Joey Lawrence! Just like me!!) Were having a whole day dedicated to him showing brotherly love and run of the house! But the main reason they did it was because they were FINALLY going to show Horse sense on British television!!! God bless Trouble t.v!!!!!! Anyway i watched the film and absolutely loved it. It's a really cute Disney movie starring two of the Lawrence brothers Joey and Andy. Its about this Kid called Tommy (Andy) who lives on a ranch with his mother in the country but is going to L.A to visit his older spoilt rich kid cousin Micheal (Joey)! But Micheal treats Tommy like crap so is forced by his parents to spend 30 days on Tommy's ranch! He starts off rough but after a while he truly begins to realise how hard Tommy has to work (even though he's only 11 years old!) And really learns a lesson and ends up saving the ranch!! All in one month! You go Joey!! I love you!!!!!

A great kids movie! I like to see movies that are easy watching for children.
epowell-44 January 2007
I am glad that there are people in the movie industry that think it is important to make movies for children. In my opinion there are so many shows that have an ill impact on children, especially young ones that are still learning the difference between right and wrong. As a parent, I think I speak for a large group of parents when I say that... I want to be able to let them watch TV without my constant supervision. There are plenty of movies that adults can watch and censor for themselves, so let's keep the easy watching shows readily available for those that are just learning about life! This show was enjoyable because it has a good "life lesson" storyline and helps support the concept of how being nice and looking out for others is a very important part of life. They also can see that our lives become happier when we stop being selfish. For anyone that has been around to see a "City Slicker" on a ranch (or has been the dude), this is a cute show and worth watching! It will bring back memories.

I think the acting was cute and the characters, though maybe a little cheesy, were still funny. The scenery is pretty and there are some really neat horse scenes. If you like horses and cowboys, this show can really be enjoyable. My suggestion would be to watch it with a young child and see it through their eyes (script aside).

Thanks

Good performances by 2 out of the 3 Lawrences!
movie_man9 September 2000
Very good performances by Andy and Matt! Andy is a little cowboy who is about ready to lose his ranch, his cousin Michael (joey) is forced to help out there by his parents, and winds up saving the day! My advice is to definately watch this movie if it is ever on Disney.

Joey & Andy... Good Movie
Pat19739 December 1999
Well it was very different then I thought it would be! Joey is a city guy with everthing he wants but his little cousin comes to town and tries to see Joey's character but Joey does not see him much and he will end up in a barnyard full of laughs that you would never seen Joey do! He went country! It's a great family movie and shows a lot of what a family should do for each other! Don't miss it!

Great family movie in the old Disney tradition. The Lawrence brothers play their characters well. Recommended for family viewing. Especially enjoyable for horse lovers.

Probably the Best Disney "Original" Film...
MovieAddict20163 December 2002
Disney "original" films, which almost always feature wise-cracking kids controlling their own type of fantasy world, are almost always ludicrous.

However, Horse Sense, though not a great film altogether, is probably the best of the bunch (being Disney "Originals") because it offers a fairly interesting, though predictable story with an all too emotionally controlling ending. However, it's for the kids, which is why I give it 2.5/5 stars-

The best picture of 1999...for the Disney Channel.
robertsays21829 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
In my faux awards for Disney movies (delusional, I know.) This won Best Picture. The directing was great, The writing is wonderful. Joey and Andy Lawerence were excellent. The acting, very good. The photography, excellent. The music score, nice. Very enjoyable dramedy. I like how they had them playing cousins in this movie instead of brothers, which they are. I felt sorry for Andy's character for what Joey's character did to him. I would feel insulted or upset to if I was dropped off at some place thats really for the 8 years and under crowd. I like the story too. I admit that I have not seen this in some time, so I can't really say much else. I do remember it enough to know that it is a fun experience.
