Fox is joining the holiday season live musical derby, announcing plans to mount a live three-hour musical version of “A Christmas Story” this December.
“A Christmas Story” will become Fox’s first musical event since last year’s “Grease: Live!,” which was executive produced by Marc Platt. Platt is once again on board for “A Christmas Story,” and the news comes just days after NBC announced that Platt would help mount “Jesus Christ Superstar Live!” for the Peacock network next Easter.
Fox’s “A Christmas Story” will take elements from both the 1980s feature, which has become an annual TV staple, as well the Tony Award-nominated Broadway production “A Christmas Story: The Musical.”

The Good Wife, Season 6, Episode 3: “Dear God”
Written by Luke Schelhaas
Directed by Brooke Kennedy
Airs Sundays at 9pm Et on CBS
Remember its early seasons, when The Good Wife was a smart, but often pretty formulaic legal procedural that delighted in exploring odd, archaic, or simply rare avenues of legal practice just for the sheer novel kick of it? Long stretches of “Dear God” feel like a throwback to that simpler, less ethically fraught time, albeit with a much heftier dose of series memory. The episode’s relatively breezy tone makes for a nice tonal break in what is shaping up to be a heavy season, but some of the attempts to keep the broader season-arc pieces moving in the other parts of the episode are markedly less successful.
In the case of “Dear God,” the odd legal avenue of the week is arbitrary Christian arbitration, wherein an...

We may not be living in the End Times, but we are certainly living in strange times. Nicolas Cage starring in a remake of a Kirk Cameron movie? The power of Cage compels you to feast your eyes upon the official trailer and new poster for the Rapture reboot Left Behind.
A while back we got to see the first footage from the remake of Left Behind featuring Cage uttering something along the lines of "If my wife had to leave me for another man, it might as well be Jesus." Keep in mind the film is not meant to be a comedy.
No. This Left Behind is from the same people responsible for the Kirk Cameron series, but this time they're aiming for more secular viewers by making the film a bit less preachy and a bit more disaster-y. One look at the trailer, and yes, indeed, "disaster" comes to mind.

This is another edition of Short Starts, where we present a weekly short film(s) from the start of a filmmaker or actor’s career. It is perhaps a bit odd to celebrate the early work of Jason Reitman on the opening weekend of his first critical failure. Labor Day is not only the Canadian director’s first “rotten” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but it’s also his first feature to even drop below 80%. Frankly, given the way the film has been kicked about the calendar since its Toronto International Film Festival debut, it seems as if the various people involved would prefer that we not talk about it at all. And so we won’t! (I haven’t seen it yet, anyway.) Instead let’s take a look back at Reitman’s early shorts and program a half-hour film festival brimming with nostalgia for the early 2000s. He directed six of these before his first feature...

Welcome to Holiday Favorites, a series in which Slackerwood contributors and our friends talk about the movies we watch during the holiday season, holiday-related or otherwise
I suspect that when most folks are asked what movie is most firmly ingrained in their lives, many would list The Princess Bride, The Godfather or even Scarface. For me it's my holiday favorite that I can watch the year round -- A Christmas Story. I never asked Santa for an official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle like Ralphie (Peter Billingsley), but I did want a pink bunny suit -- even if it would mean that I would look like a "deranged Easter Bunny" in the words of Old Man Parker (Darren McGavin).
One of my little idiosyncrasies is throwing movie quotes into everyday conversation, and this film adaptation of the satirical recollection by late humorist and radio personality...

As far as jobs go, reporting, writing, and editing stories about television is a pretty fantastic gig to have. One could almost call it a privilege — almost, because no job that includes “watching the pilot for every Upn series ever made” can realistically be called a privilege. If you haven’t noticed, we at Entertainment Weekly take television very seriously — so seriously, in fact, that I may have threatened to fire Senior Writer James Hibberd when he dared to suggest that The Wire should not be the No. 1 show on our All-Time Greatest TV list because it wasn’t commercially successful.

In God We Trust
What makes a hero? In God We Trust, a documentary profiling native New Yorker Eleanor Squillari, reminds us that heroism takes many forms. Squillari was personal secretary to the now-notorious Bernard Madoff for 25 years; since Madoff's 2008 arrest, she has distinguished herself as a hero for sure.
Squillari's job as she knew it had its aggravations, as most will (for example, she was constantly "on call") -- but it provided, so she believed, a close group of coworkers and an honest living. When Madoff's lies were exposed, she was personally devastated and found her prospects in jeopardy; try getting another job when you have to tell people you worked with Bernie Madoff for 25 years. She lost her livelihood and a lot of her faith in people, and in the film she's in the process of losing her house.

Welcome to the "Arrested Development" Rewatch. Leading up to the release of Season 4, Zap2it will be taking a look back at the 53 episodes that made the show one of our most beloved TV comedies. We continue with episode 7 of Season 1, "In God We Trust," which first aired Nov. , 2003. Watch the first three seasons of "Arrested Development" on Netflix.
Plot: At the center of "In God We Trust" is the Bluths' participation in the annual Orange County "living masterpieces" pageant. George Sr. and Buster traditionally appear as God and Adam, respectively in Michaelangelo's "The Creation of Adam." But of course this is complicated by George being in jail.
Also, Buster wants out, mostly because he is now dating Lucille Austero and doesn't want anyone to know.
In other plots, Michael and Lindsay get close except for when Lucille purposely breaks them up so as not to present a united front against her.

The National Film Registry has added 25 more films that will be preserved in the Library of Congress. To be included in the registry the film needs to be “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” They have to be at least ten years old and are chosen from a list of films nominated by the public.
There's some great films that have been added this year. We've got the original 3:10 to Yuma, The Matrix, A Christmas Story, A League of Their Own, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Dirty Harry, Uncle Tom's Cabin, and several more.

Marty Feldman Week! continues at Trailers from Hell with TV writer Alan Spencer introducing Feldman's "In God We Trust," a satire of televangelists that met with critical derision and terminated his five-year studio contract. Subtitled "Gimme that Prime Time Religion," this was Marty Feldman's reward for the boxoffice success of his previous directorial effort. Finally free of studio interference, he chose to make a trenchant satire of televangelists and religion, only to see it savaged critically and his five-picture studio deal terminated. Seldom revived or televised, it's a ripe candidate for rediscovery.

His considerable and proven talents notwithstanding, the post-Last King of Scotland phase of Forest Whitaker‘s career has been rough, to put it in layman’s terms. The past four years have seen him take on Vantage Point, Repo Men, Our Family Wedding, Powder Blue, and Street Kings, all either complete failures or reported as such — and, perhaps even worse, containing performances that are entirely forgotten. And a Criminal Minds spin-off? Really? Whatever needs to pay the bills, I guess, but this guy’s got on Oscar; CBS dramas should be a last resort.

Forest Whitaker is set to play Archbishop Desmond Tutu in Roland Joffe's South African prison movie at Lightmotive which currently has the working title of "The Archbishop And The Antichrist" says Screen Daily.
Based on the play by Michael Ashton, the story imagines a meeting between the real Tutu and a boorish white South African mass murderer called Piet Blomfeld.
Joffe ("The Mission," "The Killing Fields") has adapted the play himself. The helmer is currently in post-production on his $30+ million part colonial India-set "Singularity" and is also prepping the thriller "In God We Trust".

So you can understand the appeal of him starring as another actual man, albeit one on the side of good this time. He’s on board to play Archbishop Desmond Tutu in Roland Joffe’s The Archbishop And The Antichrist.Joffe has adapted Michael Ashton’s play, which puts the very real Tutu in a fictional story about the Archbishop meeting a bigoted South African mass murderer called Piet Blomfeld who says he's seeking redemption. The plot is set during Tutu's work with the country’s Truth and Reconciliation hearings. It sounds like the sort of film that the man who made The Mission and The Killing Fields could really do something with. TBS is in the midst of its annual 24-hour marathon of "A Christmas Story," the 1983 movie about a young boy's (Peter Billingsley) quest for a Bb gun that has become as much a part of the season as "It's a Wonderful Life."
But did you know that Jack Nicholson was considered for the role of Ralphie's father? So says TBS, which says Nicholson was offered the role and he was interested. The movie's producers became concerned about what they might have to pay Nicholson, however, and went with Darren McGavin instead.
Here are some other little- to well-known facts about "A Christmas Story."
- Author Jean Shepherd, who narrates the movie and whose book "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash" is the basis for the film, also has a cameo. He's the annoyed man in the department store who tells Ralphie and Randy the line to see Santa starts back there.

On Thursday morning's Fox and Friends, co-host Gretchen Carlson took White House Press Secretary Jay Carney to task for a "Bible Blunder" while responding to a question about President Obama's "In God We Trust" zinger. Carney quoted the Bible as saying "“The Lord helps those who help themselves,” and while Carlson rightly points out that the phrase does not appear in the Bible, she fails to note that the White House issued a correction hours later.

Olivia Munn says that she's front and center to watch her hot costars shake their money makers on the set of Magic Mike. And in spite of being at the elegant Princess Grace Gala, she says "Like, right now, I'm mad. I'm furious that I'm not there watching Matt Bomer shake it, because he can shake it, probably better than most people in the world."
CBS has won an appeal about the "wardrobe malfunction" Janet Jackson had at the 2004 Super Bowl. I know I'm exaggerating, but does anyone else wonder if the government could save a ton of money by not fighting these stupid morality battles in court for seven years and counting? And right on cue, the Parents Television Council is outraged.

"In God We Trust" isn't just written on all your money for kicks. A 1956 act of Congress declared it the official United States national motto. Still, on Tuesday (Nov. 1) the House of Representatives debated whether or not to change or eliminate the national motto.
Ultimately, they decided to keep it, so don't worry -- your money isn't going to change.
For 35 minutes, though, the reps debated whether or not the motto defies the separation of church and state. One reason for the contention was a slip that President Obama made in Indonesia, when he said, "In the United States, our motto is E pluribus unum-- out of many, one." In fact, E pluribus unim is on the national seal, but it's not the official motto.
"Is God God? Or is man God? In God do we trust, or in man do we trust?" asked Rep. Trent Franks of Arizona. "We...

President Obama spoke this morning during an appearance at Georgetown Waterfront Park, bringing attention and support for his jobs plan known as the American Jobs Act. Most notably during his speech, the president mocked Congress for wasting precious time on resolutions about commemorative baseball coins and "reaffirming that 'In God We Trust' is our motto?'" making reference to last night's House vote that passed with a vote of 369-9.

In a market full of action games, how does any one game stand out? The answer is simple: make it different. At first glance Utv Ignition Games' latest release "El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron" may appear to be similar to countless other games on the rack, but, if you dig a little deeper, and you'll find that this quest to bind fallen angels isn't your average "God of War" knockoff.
The Basics
The world is in peril because seven angels have fallen from heaven. God has tasked one of his scribes, Enoch, to search them out, climb the tower they have constructed, and return them to heaven to negate the effects of their blasphemy. Armed with three of heaven's weapons, Enoch must battle his way to the top of the tower, and put an end to the false world created by the fallen angels. If he does not succeed...

The news lately has been non-stop talk about the debt ceiling with debate raging among Democrats and Republicans in Washington on the issue. President Obama had another news conference this morning. But what is the debt ceiling? Aaron Sorkin's primetime soap The West Wing took up the subject in an episode from its sixth season, "In God We Trust," which explained the politics behind getting the debt ceiling raised.
"So this debt ceiling thing is routine or the end of the world?" Annabeth Schott (Kristin Chenoweth) asked Tony Ziegler (Richard Schiff).
"Both," he responded.
Watch the scene below:
MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell was a producer, writer and guest actor on the show. He showed this clip back in January on his show The Last Word, when he was talking about the debt ceiling negotiations that were then just around the corner.

Internet users--Facebookers most of all--are a trusting bunch. Why? Because we are wired to build relationships around trust.
The most surprising takeaway from the recent Pew Research Center study, "Social Networking Sites and Our Lives," wasn't that 80% of Americans regularly use the Internet or that 60% of web users have a social network account--double the number in 2008, with the vast majority on Facebook (52%) and Twitter (33%). Nor is it that people have gone gaga over smartphones, with one in three Americans owning one. Rather, it's the idea that the Internet, in particular social networks, engender trust, and the more time you spend on them the more trusting you become.
As the report put it, "The typical Internet user is more than twice as likely as others to feel that people can be trusted," with regular Facebook users the most trusting of all. "A Facebook user who uses the site multiple times per...

Call it Obama's Wonderful Life. Ex-Bush aide Matt Latimer imagines what would have happened if the Republican ticket had taken the White House in 2008-and where the world would be now.
It is almost Christmas. A morose Barack Obama, believing his presidency has no meaning, wanders the White House. He looks again at the crumpled Nov. 14th Washington Post op-ed that he keeps in his pocket and just cannot throw away. The article, penned by former Clinton aides, urges Obama not to seek reelection in 2012. They make this appeal not so that Hillary can run in his place-selfish motivations are notoriously taboo in Clintonworld-but strictly out of a sincere belief that a failed one-term presidency is in Obama's best interest.
"Should I take their advice?" Obama asks himself, as he leans over the Truman Balcony and looks at the White House grounds below. "Should I commit political suicide? Have I done any good for anyone?...

It's Christmas time and there's only one thing on Ralphie Parker's Christmas list this year: a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-Shot, Range Model Air Rifle, but many obstacles stand in the way of his dream because every adult that he confronts keeps telling him he'll shoot his eye out.
Meanwhile The Old Man just got a major award (a lamp shaped like a woman's leg), and Mom is making sure The Old Man doesn't come near her turkey, Ralphie's friend gets his tongue stuck to a flag pole, and Ralphie utters the f-word in front of his father. Christmas...

Tuesday night, hours before our start of Spirit Day, 19-year-old Corey Jackson hung himself. There’s no direct evidence of bullying of the gay Oakland University student, but let’s face it, we get bullied everyday just for being gay.
As evidence of that statement, I offer Maggie Gallagher’s editorial for the New York Post. She cites out of context “evidence” that marriage equality wouldn’t reduce the suicides, using Massachusetts as a sample. It hardly counts when that marriage isn’t valid when you cross the state line, Maggie. Or when newspapers think that there are two sides to this story that need to be aired. There is no opposing viewpoint to dead children.
It’s so bad that Facebook has teamed up with MTV, GLAAD, The Trevor Project, GLSEn and Pflag to create a “Network of Support.”

It’s not unheard of, but it’s extremely unusual. Glee just got their Season 3 pickup from the network. That would be for the 2011-2012 television season. This allows bigger planning, better cost management, and allows the show to start talking about syndication deals immediately. It also takes them past graduation for some of the cast, I would think.
At the Cannes Film Festival, a bunch of films you’ll never see won awards, with out Thai director Apitchatpong Weerasethakul's Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives winning the Palme D’Or top prize.
Something you may get to see that showed at Cannes is Kaboom, the film from Mysterious Skin’s Gregg Araki, starring Thomas Dekker. It picked up the very first Queer Palm Award ever made,...

Dressing for Fashion Week is never easy (it’s not just the models who get scrutinized for style), but it’s especially harrowing when you know you may be trotting your best footwear through snow, slush, or salt on your way to the tents. To see how New York’s most fashionable responded to its recent snowfalls, we stationed ourselves by the slippery steps of Bryant Park’s main entrance. There we found that even the most adventurous dressers among the editors, celebrities, assistants, and bloggers decided not to sacrifice their necks or their most prized pairs to the elements—even if they were only hopping out of a town car at 41st and 6th to immediately skitter into a tent—and most of them wore bulky, dark-colored, and (relatively) conservative boots. Herewith, a few pairs we peeped. We spotted Romney Leader, of Style.com, tromping around in these Burberry boots,...

New York City didn't exactly scream "Welcome back!" when I disem barked from five days in the warm, wonderful sunshine of Jamaica. No, the city has been quiet, deserted and very cold ever since.
Economic bad news from the West Indies. The Ritz-Carlton I was in was virtually mine to command with a paucity of guests. The usual December-January crush failed to materialize. The hotel even closed its elegant French dining room due to a lack of customers.
