The first of a decent children's series
Avg-Joe17 March 2007
Like the title suggests, this is the first of six direct-to-sale videos developed by Klasky-Csupo (Rugrats, The Wild Thornberrys) for McDonalds. It features Ronald McDonald in both Live-action and animated segments and is very... well... "Klasky-Csupo" (if you've ever seen Rugrats, you know what I mean.)

The titles in the series include: Scared Silly, Grimace Island, Visitors from Outer Space, Birthday World, Have Time, Will Travel and The Legend of Mcdonald-Land Loch.

As an adult, I can barely sit through these programs. The music is gawd-awful and the story lines too sickeningly sweet and have positive messages to a fault. However, my kids adore them. Even though they were produced as early as 1998, they continue to request them even now. So, they definitely have staying power within their target audience which is more than I can say about the vast majority of the competition.

Finding these movies today might prove difficult as they were primarily released only at McDonald's Restaurants on a limited basis. However, scan your garage sales, pawn shops, and the video store discount shelves and you might get lucky!

Childhood Memories
scatter_brained417 October 2014
My mom bought my brother and I this on VHS when we were like six. We were in love with it and still are! No matter where we would go we had to take it with us so we wouldn't die of boredom. The songs, the haunted house, the characters, and the riddles were all fun and mysterious to us. We also have the Grimace Island tape and the one where Hamburgler goes to outer space, but his one will always be my favorite because it was the first one and it's much more scary and engaging. There are funny lines as well and some magic. I loved all the little trap doors in the house and the creepy man behind the door. This is overall a great movie for little kids.

All right I had this film when I was about 9,or 8. It was very funny. I can't believe I said that. It had some silly humor. But the songs weren't needed. This movie was just something I rember, having fun. I`ve seen all most all of these cute little videos. They were fun at the time. I gave them to a little cousin so he could have that fun,I had.

I don't know what the other reviewer was thinking....

I am not sure what that Dane fellow was talking about, but he obviously is not a family man. I rented this movie for my two children. My daughter (Four years of age) and my son (8 years old). Neither of them could sit still during this movie. My son actually left the movie to do his homework! The only positive outcome of this movie was that now I know how to make my son do this homework, just tell his only other choice is watching Ronald McDonald's Wacky Adventures. My daughter, threw her Beany Baby at the TV! She not only wanted me to shut the movie off, but she said that she never wants to get a happy meal for McDonald's again! Let me just say, that this movie was a HUGE downer. I recently saw the movie Dude Where's My Car? and I can honestly say that it was more entertaining. If that doesn't tell you something, nothing will.

Staple of my Childhood
k_rae_rae14 April 2021
The Wacky Adventures of Ronald McDonald movies are a staple of my childhood. It boggles my mind that other people, at least my age, don't know about these! They're so cute, timeless, and awesome collectors pieces. Scared Silly is probably my favorite out of all the McDonald's movies. I was impressed to see that rewatching these as an adult they still hold up with the times. I wish the McDonald's company continued with their amazing merchandise, movies, and characters. The characters themselves are lost to time anymore, so sad. But these movies are so much fun.

Warning: Spoilers
"The Wacky Adventures of Ronald McDonald: Scared Silly" is a 40-minute short film from almost 20 years ago and the title already tells us that this is just one of several movies. McDonalds obviously tried to turn their famous character Ronald McDonald also into a movie star. But it was not successful. These days, no such films are made anymore I believe. Maybe the character just isn't made for film. At least he is an icon in advertising and, of course, maybe you have seen him in "Logorama" too. The beginning and end feature a live action Ronald, while the large part in the middle is 100% animation and tells us a story when Ronald goes camping with his friends. It becomes quite a supernatural adventure. This film here is only worth seeing for relatively young audiences. There is not much cinematic value to it and the story and characters (that includes the animated Ronald McDonald) do not make a lasting impression. There are a couple good moments, but overall it is nothing special. I do not recommend the watch. The only somewhat decent aspect was the music.

What costs nothing but is worth everything? Weighs nothing but lasts a lifetime? That one person can't own but two people can share?

ronald mcdonald, scared silly.
steal_my_sunshine717 September 2008
ah, I remember watching this movie as a young child. And i still get the same feeling! My babysitter was a huge halloween fanatic, and every year, this movie would come out of the halloween box, and into the vcr, for me and her son to enjoy. For ten years straight this movie was tradition, and when i see it now, i still get that halloween feeling. Not through an adults perspective, but through a child's eyes. Candy and decorations, a simple excuse to be joyful! This movie is a huge part of my life. I suggest you make it a part of your child's life as well. This movie can strike joy into a child's heart, because to them, a holiday is not a hassle or an inconvenience, it is a blessing and a promise that there is happiness in the world they are growing into. Halloween books and movies will delight your child, and your child will be happy to see you are delighted as well! 'tis the season to be spooky! The music in this movie is so entertaining, and although you may just see ronald mcdonald as an advertisement hoax to draw your children in (i couldn't agree more) at least there are values to this story. Please keep in mind I am only fifteen years old, I know I am not the best writer, but i wanted to share my joy and trust in this movie, I hold it so dear, and I know you can too!

FUNNY!!!!

You may not believe it, but this movie was EXTREMELY funny. And I don't mean it was funny because it was bad, it wasn't bad at all. It was surprisingly very well done and very funny. Some of the jokes were a bit much, and almost made it deserve an PG Rating or higher, but most stay out of the gutter and sexual joke area. If you enjoy the humor in such classics as Ghostbusters and American Beauty, you will LOVE this film and I guarantee you will want to purchase it right away.

The 1st Installment of Ronald McDonald's Wacky Adventures
Mark-AA8430 October 2023
I remember hearing about this video when it was released 25 years ago, and you could get it at your favorite McDonald's restaurant. However, I didn't think of buying it back then until a friend told me about it.

In this video, Ronald McDonald head for Far-Flung Forest to go camping, but some of the friends are a bit scared because of a story about ghost called the Far-Flung Phantom. Turns out that the one who is best at scaring everyone is the Hamburglar. He seems to like scary stories. At the end of it all, Ronald and his friends make a new friend who happened to play the biggest scary joke on them.

Look for this, and other Wacky Adventures of Ronald McDonald on YouTube.
