Reviewing the "Texas" at Grant's Tomb (1898)
This Edison film captures Sampson's fleet returning from its Cuban battle and arriving in New York City. This film clocks in at just under 90-seconds so obviously one shouldn't be expecting any sort of story. Basically the camera stays in place as a ship comes sailing by and then towards the end there's an edit where we get a close shot of the American flag. Again, there's nothing ground-breaking here but it's interesting getting to see this moment in time captured on film. Fans of these early movies should enjoy it.
This film and many others like it can be viewed at The Library of Congress.
