During the seventies Brazilian cinema survives under the soft-porn comedies self-called by media as Pornochanchada, exploiting the nudity scenes of the famous actress, in this one no exception to that prearranged rule, see the poster, so try imply it as serious offer drama doesn't fly whatsoever, still knowing the background of our cinema industry, said that the picture floats between this two genres soft-sexploitation-drama, never taken off from each other, even focusing on dramatic purpose.

A gorgeous mid-class housewife Natalia (Selma Egrei) has in trouble due she didn't get any pregnancy from his (ugly) husband Guido (Luis Carlos de Moraes), in three years of marriage, probably by him be infertile, then she wonders a randomly sex relationship with a stranger Gustavo (Everton de Castro) during her holyday in a far off touristic city, which is granted at first attempt, out of the blue they meets in a large city as São Paulo (what a jinxed lady), so Gustavo perceives Natalia's pregnancy, then the prior friendly guy becomes a wicked blackmailer, he figures out how to get an easy money from so unfortunate woman.

Actually a boring picture aside few sequences, attached with a lame screenplay where the naïve husband giving a ride to the villain with her woman on the car, what a mess, or a fluke (just in movies), all this fully lulled by a kitschy music score, what a lousy choice, also bolstered by an impoverished dialogues, point out by unfitting bad jokes, anyway it didn't praised anyone, at least it had a decent outcome.

The middle-class housewife Natália (Selma Egrei) and her husband Guido Rossi (Luiz Carlos de Moraes) have been married for three years unsuccessfully trying to have a baby. Their best friends are Flora (Jussara Freire) and Guido's partner Jorge (Paulo Figueiredo) that have three children. Guido refuses to be submitted to clinical examination while Natália secretly submits and finds that she is healthy. Natália loves Guido but feels that their marriage is near to the end. When Natália travels to Poços de Caldas with Flora to rest for a couple of days, she meets the student Gustavo (Ewerton de Castro) and decides to have one night stand with him to get pregnant and save her marriage. Seven months later, Gustavo finds Natália and blackmails her, forcing the future mother to take an ultimate decision.

"Adultério por Amor" is the dramatic story of a woman that decides to commit adultery to get pregnant and save her marriage with her beloved husband. Selma Egrei is one of the most beautiful Brazilian actresses ever and proves that she can perform dramatic roles and shines with a magnificent performance. The director and writer Geraldo Vietri has a stunning work and the sex scenes are not cheap or pure exploitation but part of the plot. My vote is eight.

Title (Brazil): "Adultério por Amor" ("Adultery for Love")

A good movie that begins as a melodrama and afterwards also acquires the traits of a thriller. While there are sex scenes, it is not a sexploitation movie as was usual in the 70's and 60's in Brazil. It was released in the same year of the director Geraldo Vietri's best film, Os Imorais, and two years before another very nice movie by him, Sexo sua Única Arma, which is also starred by Selma Egrei. That beautiful and competent actress performs very well as usual, and Luiz Carlos de Moraes, who portrays her husband, who wishes too much to have a son, also goes very well. Ewerton de Castro has a good performance but I will not add any further information in order to avoid spoiler. Certainly worth watching!
