The BBC has cancelled The Goes Wrong Show, it’s finally been revealed. More details on that not-very-good news right here.
Very sad news. The BBC has cancelled The Goes Wrong Show. For anybody who hasn’t had the pleasure, the show – created and written by Jonathan Sayer, Henry Lewis and Henry Shields, who are also part of the onscreen ensemble – follows the misadventures of the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society, an amateur theatre troupe who attempt to stage a different play each week in front of a studio audience, but are woefully unsuited to the task.
From malapropisms to slapstick, egocentric fights between actors, physical comedy and stunts, Sayer, Lewis and Shields wring every possible gag out of the premise, heightened by the bravura comic acting of the Mischief Theatre ensemble – Charlie Russell, Dave Hearn, Bryony Corrigan, Nancy Zamit, Chris Leask, Greg Tannahill and Ellie Morris.

ITV boss Carolyn McCall has detailed the potential for a post-strike “blip” as commissioning conversations are restarted with U.S. buyers, while the head of ITV Studios described generative AI as a “co-pilot for creatives.”
Speaking after the publication of ITV’s full-year results, which saw profits tumble by 32% amidst a tricky ad market, McCall said a factor “never really talked about” in relation to last year’s months-long U.S. labor strikes is that “commissioning conversations could not happen and we were not allowed to pitch ideas or discuss anything that would build a pipeline.”
“This is never really talked about but is also quite an important factor in the market,” she said, adding that the more obvious impact of the strike physically delaying productions had been prominent in discussions.
Pressed on whether this could lead to a surge in commissioning from U.S. buyers, McCall said “we are...

The BBC’s decision to axe one of its longest running daytime shows has been called “disastrous” by one of its writers.
Medical soap opera Doctors will air its final episode in December after 24 years, with the BBC citing rising production costs and the need to invest in other programs for the cancellation.
As the show completed its filming this week, screenwriter Philip Ralph expressed his frustration on X, formerly Twitter:
He wrote: “Today is the last day of filming Doctors. A show that has run for 24 years, employed thousands of people, produced more than 4,500 episodes, will call ‘cut’ for the final time.
“As a writer on the show for the past 19 years I’m personally impacted along with hundreds by the disastrous decision to axe it.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona star Rebecca Hall was one of the buzziest names to feature on the BBC’s recent 12-strong drama slate and the BAFTA winner can now be seen in first look images playing a teacher in Element Pictures’ The Listeners.
Adapted by the novel’s author Jordan Tannahill, Hall’s character Claire is tormented by a low humming sound that no one else around her can hear. This seemingly innocuous noise gradually upsets the balance of her life, increasing tension between herself and her husband, Paul, and daughter, Ashley. But despite multiple doctors, no obvious source or medical cause can be found.
Scroll down for more pics, including another of Hall and one of Ollie West (Hamnet), who plays student Kyle and can also hear the sound.
Also starring in the series, which was filmed in Greater Manchester, are Prasanna Puwanarajah, Amr Waked (Ramy), Gayle Rankin, Mia Tharia (Phoenix Rise), Franc Ashman, Samuel Edward Cook, Karen Henthorn, Lucy Sheen (Ping Pong) and Ian Mercer.
Deadline revealed the show’s development last March and Poor Things producer Element is making it with Janicza Bravo – whose past credits include Zola, Mrs America and Them – directing. Hall is also starring in James L. Brooks’ next movie Ella McCay and Tessa Thompson’s similarly-named helpline drama The Listener. Fremantle is distributing The Listeners.
Rebecca Dundon, SVP Scripted Content, International at Fremantle said: “The Listeners is a thriller like no other that will surprise, provoke and challenge the status quo.”

Tannahill and Bravo are EP-ing alongside Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Chelsea Morgan Hoffmann and Rachel Dargavel for Element Pictures, Rebecca Ferguson for the BBC, and Alice Birch. The series is produced by BAFTA-nominated Ed King. Fremantle is handling global sales.

A TV series made entirely by generative AI is only three-to-five years away, according to the director of hits including Slow Horses and Anthony Hopkins movie One Life.
James Hawes spoke with legal teams at SAG-AFTRA and the WGA and undertook a poll with fellow directors and VFX workers after the BBC canceled long-running drama Doctors, in which he probed the likelihood of a fully AI series, he revealed today.
“The best guess was three to five years,” he told the British Film & High-End TV Inquiry. “Someone will say, ‘Create a scene in an ER room where a doctor comes in and he’s having an affair with a woman and they’re flirting, and someone is dying on the table,’ and [AI] will start to create it. Maybe it won’t be as polished as we are used to but that is how close we are getting.”

Exclusive: Bodhi Talent clients have abandoned the Manchester-based talent agency after founder Archie Purnell was accused of being a “rogue trader” in a Deadline investigation.
Several actors posted on Twitter (now X) about their decision to quit Bodhi following allegations that Purnell was sending clients fake self-tape audition invites and breaking regulations by paying actors late.
Purnell sent an email to clients on Thursday saying he was “heartbroken” at the claims, which he said were “false” and created by an individual who had previously attempted to “jeopardise my character.” He did not identify this individual in the email, which was co-signed by his business partner Ricky Cortis.
“To say I am heartbroken is an understatement, but as always, the truth will out. There is always two sides to every story,” Purnell wrote. “My legal time [sic] is currently dealing with it all and legal action is now being taken against all parties involved.

After 12 seasons spread across 24 years, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" is coming to an end. The 12th and final season of this beloved comedy series premieres this month, on February 4, 2024. And the final season will continue "to prove how seemingly trivial details of one's day-to-day life can precipitate a catastrophic chain of events. To keep the narrative spontaneous, the series is shot without a script and cast members are given scene outlines and improvise lines as they go."
Regarding the final season, Larry David said:
"As Curb comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this 'Larry David' persona and become the person God intended me to be – the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character. Dakota Johnson has talked about the experience of filming superhero spin-off Madame Web – in particular acting against a blue screen for its effects sequences.
In a relatively quiet year for superhero movies, Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off, Madame Web, is the first of 2024’s offerings to emerge – it’s out in February in the UK.
Dakota Johnson stars as Cassandra Web, the titular heroine whose psychic powers give her the ability to see into the future. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Johnson describes the film as more “human and grounded” than most superhero fare, though that doesn’t mean it isn’t without its action set-pieces.
In fact, Johnson hints that she was quite perturbed by the CGI-heavy sections of the film in which she was asked to perform in front of a blue screen as people off-camera yelled stage directions.
“I’ve never really done a movie where you are on a blue screen,...

Actress Hannah Waddingham was told she didn’t have a face for television by a childhood drama teacher. The ‘Ted Lasso’ actress, who started her career with small roles in British soaps like ‘Doctors’ and ‘Brookside’ as well as working on the West End, can still recall her teacher mocking her appearance in front of the entire class, reports Female First UK.
Speaking on BBC Radio 2 podcast ‘Rule Beakers’, the actress said: “I had one drama teacher that said to the whole class ‘Oh Hannah will never work on screen because she looks like one side of her face has had a stroke’.”
“I thought, ‘I will do. Come hell or high water, I will work on screen’,” she added.
As per Female First UK, the ‘My Family’ star admitted even her headmistress tried to stop her from pursuing a career in acting.

Larry David has returned to bless us with his final gripes.
HBO has released the trailer for the 12th and final season of its Emmy-winning comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm.
The 10-episode final season continues to see David as an over-the-top version of himself navigating his social and professional life in Hollywood. The show has spanned nearly 25 years given its irregular production schedule, which was largely dependent on when David felt ready and inspired to make another season. It’s also HBO’s longest-running series.
In December, when David confirmed the new season would be its last, he released this statement: “As Curb comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this ‘Larry David’ persona and become the person God intended me to be — the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character. And so ‘Larry David,...

The film marks the feature directorial debut of Jennifer E. Montgomery, who also wrote the screenplay with her husband Andrew M. Davis. Davis has a background in cinematography, including some work on the Sam Raimi-produced horror anthology series 50 States of Fright, so he lensed his wife’s first movie. Inspired by a true story, it sees Ashley taking on the role of a young woman who awakens from a coma grievously injured, memory fractured, her husband arrested. But as she puts together the pieces of her past, she starts to question her own actions — and her perception of reality.

Curb Your Enthusiasm has come to an end after twenty four years, writer and star Larry David has confirmed.
Of all the sitcoms in the history of television, few, if any, have come anywhere near the level of cringe inducing awkwardness seen in Larry David’s long running sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Playing a version of himself, David, forever deadpan and defiant, manages to break just about every social convention there is as he attempts to go about his life as a successful television writer. Starring alongside David were Jeff Garlin, Cheryl Hines, Susie Essman and J.B. Smoove.
Curb is also notable for its wide array of memorable guest turns, which have included Mel Brooks, Martin Scorsese, Ben Stiller, Christian Slater, Rosie O’Donnell, Michael J. Fox, Ricky Gervais, Lin-Manuel Miranda, F. Murray Abraham and David Schwimmer.
There was also a Seinfeld reunion season, which saw Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander...

Television's most acid-tongued, casually offensive, and dryly hilarious character is about to take his final curtain call. For upwards of 20 years, comedic genius Larry David has written and starred in a long-running series that follows a fictionalized version of himself. As perpetually grumpy as he is acerbic, this precise combination of personality traits has made "Curb Your Enthusiasm" into the much-watch, cringe-comedy heir to the "Seinfeld" throne. Heavy on improv and utterly packed with laughs, the HBO series has steadily cultivated a passionate following eager to join David through one wildly inappropriate social interaction after another. But after 12 rollicking seasons of menacing the greater Los Angeles area, it appears that the master of misanthropy is finally ready to call it quits.

Prettay… prettay… prettay… sad.
“Curb Your Enthusiasm” is officially ending with Season 12, which premieres Feb. 4 at 10 p.m. on HBO and Max. The 10-episode season will conclude with a series finale on April 7.
You might be thinking: Isn’t every season of “Curb” potentially its last? While this is sorta true — the series has long operated with an open invitation from HBO and without a strict timeline — the cable network is, for the first time, definitively promoting the next batch of episodes as Larry David’s “final season.”

We can hear the tuba already. “Curb Your Enthusiasm” is returning for its 12th season on February 4 — as IndieWire previously exclusively reported — but we now know that this season will be its last.
For real this time too. HBO on December 14 officially announced the 12th season of “Curb” as the final for Larry David and company. People have been speculating about the end of “Curb” for years now, but it always boiled down to whether David wanted to do any more. Now we’ve got word from the man himself, saying he’s ready to shed this “Larry David” persona he’s been putting on all these years.

It's been a season of change for Bashir and Magalie.
Bash has always been asked to work below his ability level because doctors in North American hospitals are expected to put in their time and work their way up the ladder.
Never mind that he has seen things as a wartime surgeon that his peers may never encounter in their careers.
Brought on by Dr. Bishop as an emergency department doctor, Bash got a glimpse of the promised land in Trauma Or -- surgery.
Until Dr. Retta Devi yanked it away on Transplant Season 3 Episode 1 so he could work on his people skills, something no one has ever accused a surgeon of having.
Until Dr. Singh reinforced Dr. Novak's request to have Bash spend time in Trauma Or on Transplant Season 3 Episode 3, if for no other reason than to support June while Novak is away doing a Doctors Without Borders stint.

The cancellation of BBC stalwart drama Doctors has had a huge impact on the UK’s TV community and the Writers Guild of Great Britiain (Wggb) has now launched a campaign to save the show.
The Wggb says it is in talks with the BBC and is consulting with other unions. As part of the campaign, it is urging people to write to their local MPs and ask them to ask BBC Director General Tim Davie to reverse the decision.
“The continuing drama series BBC Doctors is to close after 23 years – a terrible loss to the UK writing community and to audiences,” said a Wggb statement. “The closure of another drama series following the cancellation of Holby City two years ago leaves a big hole in the drama slate and in the pockets of Doctors writers, some of whom have written for the show for years.”

Exclusive: The BBC is developing Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight’s drama based in a Birmingham university, with a view to potentially turning it into a returnable series.
The as-yet-untitled project, which follows the lives of a group of young people at one of the country’s second-largest city’s five universities, is being produced out of Knight’s new multimillion pound Digbeth Loc. Studios in the West Midlands, which opened a few months ago. Banijay-backed Kudos and BBC Studios are co-producing.
The university drama is in early-stage development but we understand that, if greenlit, the series is being positioned as a potential returner that could air in primetime. UK TV trade Broadcast previously reported that he was developing the university series but at that point a broadcaster was not attached.
