Eddie Willis, Guitarist for Motown’s Funk Brothers, Dead at 82

Eddie Willis, Guitarist for Motown’s Funk Brothers, Dead at 82
Eddie Willis, guitarist and original member of the famed Motown Records house band the Funk Brothers, died Monday near his hometown of Grenada, Mississippi. Willis was 82.

Willis’ daughter Terez Willis told the Detroit Free Press that her father had been suffering from complications from his lifelong bout with polio, which he had since childhood and prevented Willis from touring more frequently during the prime of his career.

The guitarist, nicknamed “Chank,” joined the Motown house band in 1959, joining a group of session musicians that included guitarists Joe Messina, Robert White and Marv Tarplin,

Hayden Christensen Going Back To Playing A Journalist

The one time in his life Hayden Christensen played a role that was remotely critically acclaimed, it was as disgraced journalist Stephen Glass in Shattered Glass. Perhaps realizing it might be best to just start over again, Christensen is returning to that journalism well, signing on to play a reporter in the supernatural thriller Vanishing in Seventh Street. He's joined in the film by Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo, and all three will play survivors of mysterious shadowy forms that cause people to suddenly disappear. According to THR they'll be filming in Detroit, a brilliant move for a movie set in a once-thriving, now demolished city. The film is directed by Brad Anderson, who made last year's thriller Transsiberian and has directed a handful of Fringe episodes. It seems daring for anyone to film a movie in Detroit, but we'll see if the story can hold up against that one

Jet Li Going Back To China

It's tempting to beg Jet Li not to go back to China, to stick around making American films because we need him so badly. But really, we haven't been treating him so well lately-- his two most recent English-language films were The Forbidden Kingdom and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and the next project on his list is the cameo-packed but sure to be ridiculous The Expendables. So back to China Li goes, with plans to star in a movie that--gasp!-- might not feature him kicking martial arts ass. According to Variety, the film is called Ocean Paradise, and will be "very different from his previous movies," as said by the film's publicist Zhang Hongyan. If that's a coded way of saying his recent American movies have sucked... well, yeah, I guess I see your point.

Going Back to Summer Camp

Recently, I wrote an article here about how the official song for my summer camp came to be written by renowned songwriters Gus and Grace Kahn. The response was unlike almost anything I'd written for the Huffington Post in 3-1/2 years. The current camp owners wrote to say that they'd been "inundated" by emails. I received notes from people I hadn't heard from in 30 years. Even my parents said that people were coming up to them and mentioning "that thing about Nebagamon." Of all the things I've written, Camp Nebagamon, in Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin...that struck home. And now, what happens? It turns out that long-time owners, Nardie and Sally Lorber Stein (daughter of the camp's founders, Muggs and Janet Lorber) have just published a book, Keep the Fires Burning: A History and Memoir of...

Mischa Barton Is Going Back to Work

Good news, everyone! After reportedly freaking out and getting locked up in a mental ward last week, Mischa Barton is starting to get back on her feet. According to the Associated Press, Barton's publicist, Craig Schneider, says that Mischa is "still seeking treatment but making improvements" and, most importantly, will be reporting to work on her new CW series The Beautiful Life when it begins filming on July 31. As was reported yesterday, producers were concocting a new character for the show similar to Barton's—a pill-popping supermodel struggling to save her career—as a sort of "Plan B" in case Barton wasn't able...

Katherine Heigl on Going Back to 'Grey's Anatomy'

Katherine Heigl is officially back for another round of "Grey's Anatomy", and she has spilled the bean on her first day of shooting the latest season for the ABC's medical drama. In an interview for her upcoming comedy film "The Ugly Truth", the 30-year-old confessed to Movies Online how it feels like going back at work without T.R. Knight.

[Spoiler Alert!] Stating that nothing has changed except for the absent of Knight and Ellen Pompeo's growing belly, the Izzie Stevens depicter opened up about filming a scene on George O'Malley's death. "We had to do a scene about George's death and Justin Chambers kept saying, 'I just keep imagining T.R. on Broadway while we're mourning the character's death'," she recalled.

"Then we all sort of went, 'Yeah, that's hilarious. No, that's really sad. He would be laughing really hard now too, and he's not here to laugh with us'," she furthermore added.

Frank Miller Going Back To Greece For ‘300’ Sequel

In addition to writing a few new “Sin City” stories for “Sin City 2,” Frank Miller is also hard at work on a new tale for the sequel to “300.”

Director Zack Snyder teased in an April MTV interview that there was a way to continue the franchise, and Miller previously claimed that he would set his new script after “300″ during the Greco-Persian Wars and featuring “some of the same characters.” Now, Snyder indicates that Miller may be moving along and re-visiting Greece to do research as he completes the graphic novel that will become the “300″ sequel.

“I know for a fact that Frank [Miller] is writing right now,” Snyder told SuperHeroHype. “[He's] drawing away and seems to be knee-deep in it. I think he’s going to head back to Greece again and do another reconnaissance.”

Snyder seemed to have a basic grasp of what Miller will be turning in, describing the

Craven's 25/8 Going Back Before the Camera?

The Last House on the Left is nearing its UK bow and Wes Craven is back in the press spotlight talking about the redux and his upcoming projects. In an interview with Den of Geek, he says things are slowly trudging along on 25/8 's post-production. It's release may come "late this year or early next year," he says, "We might shoot three more days in July, because we have an idea for a really fun little button on the ending, and other than that we're virtually locked down editorially, so it'll be a matter of getting that new little piece together." This would be the second time Craven did additional shooting on the film since completing it last year. For a full plot synopsis, click here .

Is Danny Boyle Going Back to Mumbai?

Danny Boyle, who snapped up a Best Director Oscar for last year's Slumdog Millionaire, has signed on with Fox Searchlight and Pathé Pictures for three more movies. The two companies were also behind Slumdog and its overwhelming success and have also had to deal with the ensuing fallout over what has (or in some cases, hasn't) happened to its young stars. (You can read some previous Cinematical posts on the Slumdog situation here, here, and here.)

According to the Los Angeles Times, "the director already has identified a possible initial production under the first-look deal, a drama about Aron Ralston, the American mountain climber who amputated part of his arm when it was pinned in a 2003 back-country hiking accident." However, Slumdog Millionaire's Oscar-winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy told the Telegraph something a little different. The UK paper reports that Beaufoy is adapting Suketu Mehta's book Maximum City: Bombay Lost and Found.

When the duo met up again, this time on the set of Brand’s upcoming film, “Get Him to the Greek,” talk once again turned to addictions. Namely, Brand’s former — and his character Aldous Snow’s current — battles with drugs.

Check out the clip below to see what Brand has to say about no longer getting sauced up to his eyeballs in real life, the chance in “Greek” to get wacky on enough substances to kill an elephant, and the small fact that the night before the interview he drugged Horowitz and made him his wife.

To see the rest of the interview, as well as exclusive clips from “Land of the Lost, “Inglorious Bastards,” and others, tune in to MTV this Sunday at 11 p.
