Storyline

Kailashnath is a widower, and father of an only son, Ramesh. He feels that his son has come of age, and must get married. He goes to see a number of young ladies for him, but is disappointed with them, as he feels they are too modern, speak English, and listen to foreign music. He feels that Ramesh will be better off marrying a non-English speaking lady, preferably from a small village. But the predicament of Ramesh is that he is already in love with Ramola, a very well qualified, English speaking Doctor, and he knows fully well that she will not be approved by his dad. So Ramesh, Ramola and Lalaji concoct a plot, making Ramola masquerade as a naive, non-English speaking village belle, with hilarious and unpredictable results. Trivia

Prakash Mehra was going to release the film in the Delhi/UP territory. But he backed out at the last minute . The delay caused the films technician's (who produced the film) to not get their 5 lakhs right away. Sound recordist George D'Cruz's family were waiting and depending on their share invested in the film. This was due to D'Cruz's sudden death and pending debts they needed to pay. See more »

Sweet comedy
6 November 2002 | by mishu_mausamSee all my reviews

This is another one in the genre of sweet home comedies built out of nothing or minimal events. The idea here is a father (Utpal Dutt) who wants her daughter-in-law to not be english speaking because he feels that those don't follow the traditional value system.

Thus Deepti Naval, a doctor, marries to Farooq Shaikh in disguise of being a village-girl and the story goes on, eventually having the father realise that his idea about english-educated females was incorrect.

Of course the idea here is not so relevant. It is the simply comic situations that get created one after the other. Its a hilarious movie but doesn't create big laughters. The movie does not stand out as a great comedy or a great movie in any sense but is surely a worth watch because its a great combination of nice script, nice direction, nice acting etc. It has everything good though nothing great.
