According to Deadline, Scarlett Johansson is set to star in Featherwood, a true-crime thriller about Carol Blevins, an FBI informant who brought down members of the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas.
Based on the award-winning Dallas Morning News series by Pulitzer Prize finalist Scott Farwell, Featherwood tells the story of Blevins, “a heroin addict and ‘Aryan Princess featherwood’ (property of a gang member) who became one of the FBI’s most important informants during an epic, six-year investigation into the murderous, neo-Nazi crime and drug syndicate known as the Aryan Brotherhood Of Texas. Blevins, who lived with the gang, memorized details, pre-empted murders and interrupted robberies, helped convict 13 members of the group. However, her harrowing journey left her with significant physical and mental scars and she lives under constant threat of reprisal by the Abt.” Sounds intense, and Deadline states that many buyers are already seeing awards potential.

The late 1990s and early 2000s were a weird era for films. There is definitely an influence from Y2K, and it seemed like there was an attitude that anything goes from some and a tightening of the belt from others. The world was in an odd place, and this influenced everything in culture like music, television, and films. 2002 gave us a wide variety of horror, like Queen of the Damned, Fear Dot Com, Cabin Fever, Bubba Ho-Tep, Dog Soldiers, and Bloody Mallory. This was the end of an era and the start of another for David Arquette it seemed. A time when he tested the “leading man” waters. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite go as planned as box office bomb after box office bomb came. Films like Ravenous, Ready to Rumble, 3000 Miles to Graceland, See Spot Run, and The Grey Zone all featured Arquette in some form but...

Sharknado, Slither, Eight Legged Freaks, Piranha… movie history is saturated with ridiculous creature-features featuring extra-large monsters wreaking havoc, with most modern iterations plagued by bad CGI… Well now comes Bad CGI Gator from writer Zalman Band, director Danny Draven and Full Moon Features – who are taking this pop culture phenomenon and well… poking fun at it!
Six college grads on Spring Break get a cabin in the swamplands of Georgia. Once there, they decide to throw their school laptops in a backyard lake in an act of youthful defiance, which unknowingly turns a lurking alligator into the dreaded and insatiable… Bad CGI Gator!
Says Charles Band, CEO & Founder Of Full Moon Features:
I’ve long been against the overuse of CGI in genre films, and in many ways, this movie is a fun, tongue-in-cheek antidote to that. When done right, CGI is a great tool to accent special effects. When done wrong…...

Snakes on a Plane nearly had a different title until Samuel L. Jackson fought the studio, highlighting his role in preserving the iconic name. The movie's absurd plot and viral nature relied heavily on its title, which informed audiences of what to expect and generated online traction. The movie's different title could have resulted in a disappointing performance, as the name "Snakes on a Plane" was what got fans excited early on and contributed to its cult classic status.

One VFX artist freaks out while roasting the CGI spiders in Eight Legged Freaks. The horror comedy premiered in 2002 and follows residents of Prosperity, Arizona, who find that various spiders have become exposed to toxic chemicals, causing them to grow in size. Despite mixed reactions, the film has developed a strong fanbase over the years. It also features a cast that includes Scarlett Johansson and David Arquette, among others.
During Corridor Crew's recent video, VFX artists looked at scenes from Eight Legged Freaks and shared their reactions to the CGI used. In one sequence involving a bike chase, they poked fun at the animation, but added that some of the shots were well-made. When it came to his actual fear of spiders though, Wren appeared uneasy at the mall scene, where they crawled through a hole in the exterior and attacked one of the gates. Check out their responses in the video below,...

A-list actors tend to be associated with a certain kind of movie, but audiences might be surprised to learn how many stars got their start or had early career roles in B-horror movies. These days, horror is big business. Each year, multiple horror movies come out and dominate the box office, and some more cerebral offerings even get a bit of award-season buzz. While there are still extremely low-budget horror movies out there, the genre has earned a measure of respectability.
This wasn't always the case, however. From the middle of the last century into the 2000s, there were scores of schlocky, campy, low-budget horror movies and direct-to-video sequels that formed the backbone of sleepovers and October nights for multiple generations. They weren't necessarily good and some of the horror movies were outright box office bombs, but they were legion, dozens being churned out every year. Because of their low budgets and proliferation,...

The late '90s/early 2000s were a rough patch for Harrison Ford. Aside from 2000's "What Lies Beneath," the veteran star just couldn't seem to pick the right projects, with everything from 1999's "Random Hearts" to 2002's "Hollywood Homicide" (in which Ford agreed to star without seeing a finished script) struggling to make a critical or financial impression. But perhaps the lowest point came in 2002 when Ford starred in Kathryn Bigelow's sort of historical retelling of a narrowly averted Soviet submarine disaster, "K-19: The Widowmaker."
Loosely based on the story of the Soviet Union's first nuclear-powered submarine, which malfunctioned in 1961 and caused the death of 28 sailors from radiation poisoning, "K-19" was doomed from the outset. The film, as the Chicago Tribune put it, used a "fraction of the truth," noting that this was the National Geographic Society's first foray into blockbuster filmmaking. The company's then head...

We’ve all seen the hackneyed, poorly CG-ed, primetime Asylum special on Syfy version of Stung too many times before. Director Benni Diez, every producer, and each department head go the extra mile to avoid such a fate for their 80s throwback creature feature. That’s what’s so endearing about a 2015 “When Insects Attack” flick with gigantic ideas and the right approach, rooted in buzzworthy practical effects. Stung would play gangbusters along with other abominations of nature like Zombeavers or Eight Legged Freaks (for different reasons), also classics like Them! or Mosquito, and deserves reappraisal for standing out from the swarm.
Screenwriter Adam Aresty hatched the idea while working on an actual catering gig with a wasp problem, which he morphed into the gonzo invasion that takes place. Julia (Jessica Cook) runs a catering company hired for an annual New York garden party hosted by newly widowed Mrs. Perch...

Universal’s Cocaine Bear from director Elizabeth Banks (Charlie’s Angels) arrives in theaters this Friday, February 24, 2023.
In the film, a 500-pound apex predator ingests a staggering amount of cocaine, sparking a coke-fueled rampage that’ll end in a lot of bloodshed. While it appears poised to deliver a raucously entertaining time at the movies, Cocaine Bear isn’t the first horror-comedy or horror movie to feature a drug or serum-enhanced animal on a violent warpath.
This week’s streaming picks highlight five entertaining creature features centered on rampaging animals of all varieties. As always, here’s where to stream them this week.

Although in recent years, they’ve been given a different connotation through Marvel and Sony, spiders have typically always taken a bad rap. While it’s been a while since a good campy horror flick like the David Arquette and Scarlett Johansson-led Eight Legged Freaks or Frank Marshall’s horror thriller Arachnophobia landed on screens, we’re happy to share that Kiah Roache-Turner’s (Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead) upcoming spider-based horror film Sting has finished production. And even better, we’ve got our first-look image at the terror about to unfold.

Space travel never goes well in sci-fi and horror, and that seems to be the case once more in the eerie first look at Dean Devlin‘s upcoming Syfy series, “The Ark.”

This idea has been coming down the pipeline for a while now, and one thing that can be said about it is that it does look like another chance to demonize another animal in a comical but horrific manner. Then again, it’s also a chance to see something that could belong with movies like Arachnophobia and Eight-Legged Freaks, meaning that it’s so over the top that it’s better to laugh at it than tear it down. With a new month upon us, that means Netflix is saying farewell to some favorite films in their library for the time being. And this month, there’s an unusual amount of good movies leaving Netflix. If you’re wondering what to watch before it’s gone, we’ve got a handy guide.
Fans of period dramas and family films, in particular, may find themselves with a lot to catch up on before it leaves Netflix. In the former category, films like “Howard’s End,” “Lawless,” “A River Runs Through It,” “Bright Star,” and “Braveheart” are all expiring in March.
But the Kids and Family section is taking a particularly big hit this month. Animated departures include “Kung Fu Panda,” “Despicable Me” and “Despicable Me 2,” “Happy Feet Two,” a handful of “Pokemon!” movies and series, and meme culture favorite “Bee Movie.” There are also several live-action family classics leaving Netflix in March as well,...

David Arquette and Scott Foley are joining Kunal Nayyar, Lucy Hale and Christina Hendricks in the film “The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry.” The charming and comical story of redemption, adapted by author Gabrielle Zevin from her own New York Times best-selling novel, begins shooting this month in the U.S. in Cape Cod.
Hans Canosa is directing from Zevin’s novel, which has sold over five million copies and been translated into 38 languages. Bcdf Pictures’ Claude Dal Farra and Brian Keady are producing alongside Kelsey Law, Canosa and Zevin. Bcdf’s Brice Dal Farra, Nayyar, Hale and Hendricks are executive producers. There are only two months left to go in this truly hellish year and relatively new streaming service HBO Max is trying to make the best of them. While most other streamers recover from Halloween and get prepared for Christmas, HBO Max is using November 2020 to fill out its servers.
Things are pretty light not the new original series front this month with only Industry (Nov. 9) and His Dark Materials season 2 (Nov. 16) making a splash. But the streamer has a couple of notable original films to complement them. That’s not even to mention two intriguing projects that don’t have dates yet: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion Special and The Mystery of Db Cooper.

We might be stuck indoors this Halloween weekend, but thankfully, the various major streaming services are on hand to keep us occupied with a monumental mountain of new content heading our way over the next few days. As it’s both the end of the month and the beginning of November, the likes of Netflix, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Hulu and Prime Video are adding a mix of seasonal movies and TV shows today and tomorrow, and a whole load of freshly licensed titles on Sunday.
First of all, Netflix is dropping five new originals this Friday, October 30th, including a couple of horrors, like The Day of the Lord and His House. The greatest month of the year is almost upon us, where normal people embrace the scary movies they might otherwise avoid, and those who live the life year round can let their freak flag fly. AMC’s FearFest block of programming is an annual highlight, and this year is offering up 92 films for your spine-chilling pleasure. Here are a few highlights of the dozens of titles awaiting your viewing.
From Dusk Till Dawn sees a pair of criminal brothers on the run escape to Mexico after forcing a vacationing family to smuggle them over the border, only for them all to become trapped in a bar where vampires feast on the living, with their only hope for survival being to make it to sunrise.

HBO Max launched on May 27th and has been off to a pretty good start with well over 10,000 hours worth of content on the service from day one. If you’re a horror fan, you may be excited to hear that a fairly decent portion of those 10,000 hours include some of the biggest and most popular horror films of all time. So, if you haven’t subscribed yet, now might just be the time to do so.
Do you like Steven Spielberg and massive sharks eating people? If so, you’ll be delighted to hear that you can catch the entire Jaws franchise – which spans four films – on HBO Max right away. If you haven’t ever seen them, now’s a great opportunity to take a trip back in time to catch up on what was arguably the very first blockbuster movie series.

It’s that time of year, and of month, again. October means Halloween, pumpkins and trick-or-treating, but now is also when we get to feast our eyes upon all the new horror movies coming to Netflix.
Of course, we’ll be losing a few of our favorites, too. When September ends, Eight Legged Freaks and Ghost Ship, among others will be gone. If you’re a fan of witches, cursed statues and Stephen King, though, then next month is your time.
For starters, we have 2009’s The Figurine arriving on the streaming platform, which is reminiscent of a certain Supernatural episode involving a lucky rabbit’s foot. It follows two boys who find a cursed statue in the woods that gives whoever finds it seven years of good luck, followed by seven years of the opposite.
Another adaptation of a King horror novella, In The Tall Grass, is also on the way.

Itsy Bitsy will creep you out if you're deathly afraid of spiders, but you're still bound to have a good time watching it. From director Micah Gallo, the movie follows a young, single mother of two and her struggles with parenting, drug addiction, and taking up a new job in the country as a private nurse to an antique appraiser. Oh, and all the while, the family is stalked and terrorized by an ancient evil entity taking the form of a giant, carnivorous spider. Certainly, that sounds a bit extreme on paper, but Itsy Bitsy can in fact be a pleasant surprise for those who associate giant spider movies with cheese-fests like Eight Legged Freaks and Spiders 3D, offering viewers a different kind of killer spider movie.
To boot, Itsy Bitsy is definitely not a horror movie in the traditional sense. Gorehounds may be left eager anticipating the movie's death scenes,...

Netflix recently revealed which films would be coming to their library to ring in the New Year, and they’re looking like a great collection for horror fans. Hailing from 2001-2004, you can now stream Jason X, Ghost Ship, Eight Legged Freaks, Gothika, Cellular and The Butterfly Effect. Of course, none of these are stone cold classics, but they’re all worthwhile watches if you can put up with a bit of wonky early noughties CGI and occasionally very hammy acting.
My pick of these would be time travel/parallel universe caper The Butterfly Effect. Sure, Ashton Kutcher might be a bit wooden in it, but I’ve always enjoyed watching him gradually screw up his life more and more with each change he makes to the timeline. I also still find the overblown scene where he wakes up to realize he’s got no arms pretty funny, if only...

The notion of David Arquette starring in a horror movie about a “possessed” rock band promises so much trashy fun, a certain amount of disappointment seems almost inevitable. Yet “High Voltage” confounds expectations by being very little fun at all. Short on thrills and energy despite its title, this slick yet sluggish feature often seems barely interested in the horror elements that are, after all, what will primarily lure viewers in.
Instead, the genre hook comes off as more of a Trojan Horse with which to smuggle in a showcase for “Hollow Body”, the onscreen vehicle for writer-director Alex Keledjian’s songwriting and costar Allie Gonino’s singing. It’s an awkward, compromising combination that ultimately provides little satisfaction on any level — unless you’re content to watch Gonino model a series of increasingly over-the-top, midriff-baring “sexy rock chick” fashions.

A new YouTube video has compiled an epic list of every Avengers star's death in a horror movie before they joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe and rocketed into the stratosphere. The nearly 6-minute video is a violent collage of all of our beloved Marvel characters getting brutally killed in some really well-known horror movies, as well as some lesser-known (and pretty cheesy) Drive-In flicks. While not horror movies, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 are going to have some pretty major fatalities, so this list might get an epic, superhero-sized makeover in the next few years.
The video starts with the man who started it all: Robert Downey Jr., the man behind Mr. Tony Stark, aka, Iron Man. Robert Downey Jr. is seen in 1994's incredibly violent Natural Born Killers getting gunned down, execution style, by Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis. It's an overly dramatic, but fitting clip to start this compilation.

Welcome to this week’s “Preview Reel” column, where we look at the week’s upcoming wide release movies. Last week we told you to never count out Blumhouse even when their movies look subpar, and what do you know, Happy Death Day overachieved with $26 million. This weekend will see a slew of new releases, but will they be able to take down the Groundhog Day influenced horror flick? Let’s see if Geostorm, Only the Brave, Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween, or The Snowman can do that.

What we are excited about: To be honest, not much. If we had to choose we would go with the expansive cast. Gerard Butler is always a generic action lead, but Jim Sturgess, Andy Garcia, and Ed Harris are mostly reliable actors. If these actors can elevate the typical boringness of a world disaster action film, maybe this can rise above the rest.

The sequel to The Hatching, Ezekiel Boone’s Skitter is the type of skin-crawling creature feature that definitely deserves its place among other fantastic creature fare, such as Eight Legged Freaks!, Tarantula – or one of my personal favourites, Richard Ryan’s ode to B-movie horror Funnelweb.
Set across the Us to China to Brazil and more, this globe-trotting thriller takes place after the event that was The Hatching, where thousands upon thousands of spiders have hatched from within bodies across the world, plunging life as we know it into chaos.
The people that are left behind, from civilians to military personal to scientists, have to decide what to do with the spider threat that still exists. Meanwhile, something big is found in Japan – a writhing, glowing enormous egg sack that could bring about another wave of flesh-eating spiders.
Man oh man, this was one hell of a ride.

Steven Shainberg’s Rupture begins with an image of something I hate – a spider – and ends with another image of something I also hate – another spider. Is there any correlation between my hatred of spiders and my issues with this film? No, I’ve survived the likes of Eight Legged Freaks and Spiders 3D. My qualms are instead with Brian Nelson’s screenplay, based on a half-baked “idea” torn from one single sequence in Tim Miller’s Deadpool. While I might hate surprise spiders, (others do too, so you’re welcome), steadfast direction and tingling thrills are worth any arachnophobia jolts. Alas, these are two things that escape Shainberg’s cold, imprisoning experiment. Two of many.

I keep discovering the benefits of having Amazon Prime. Free shipping seems to be only the tip of the iceberg of perks. A huge perk is the Amazon Prime Video app that has free streaming for Prime members. This app not only has some unconventional titles amidst established classics, but it also has the capability to download films and TV shows to watch offline when time may be on your side, but Wi-Fi availability isn’t. I know other streaming apps have that functionality also, but from personal experience, the Amazon one seems to be the only one that works consistently.

This October, the entire world will face deadly, devastating weather that will be impossible to survive in Geostorm. The first trailer for this thriller will erupt like molten lava tomorrow. Today, Warner Bros. and Skydance have unleashed several teasers from around the globe.
The first tease has a series of deadly twisters setting down to destroy the landscape. The second video shows a giant tidal wave hitting a city. And the third clip is so hot, it literally cooks eggs on the sidewalk. This footage is all very reminiscent of the grand disaster movies we've seen over the past couple of decades. I’ve always seen Christmas and New Year’s as the one-two punch of all holidays. All the prep that goes into Christmas to culminate in just one brief and fleeting day, and then being immediately followed by the end of the year. That year that has etched its last two digits into our subconscious, and dies hard when trying to learn to write or type the new two digits for the following year. New Year’s is also a time when you can add one more year to how long it’s been since you passed some of life’s memorable and major rites of passage, like high school or college graduation, or even how long ago your favorite films came out.
It can be a bit melancholy if you let it. One thing that is definitely a high point of all this closure...

We’ve reviewed every summer movie season since 1980 to find out which are the best, and which are the worst. Last week we posted our picks for the worst, and here we post our picks for the best.
2015 and 2016 may just be the most overthetop summer movie seasons yet. It seems like nearly every movie slated for a summer 2015 or 2016 release is heavily anticipated. Because of these impending summers of movie awesomeness, we’ve decided to take a look back at summer movie seasons of years past. The idea of the summer movie season is currently in full swing, but it didn’t catch on immediately. Hollywood had to do its fair share of experimenting to determine what types of films would be most successful. As a result, some summer movie seasons have been better than others. We’ve reviewed them all for you and ranked them from worst to best.

Being around hundreds to thousands of people for that long sounds like one of the ten Chambers of Hell not mentioned in Big Trouble in Little China. Not to mention chronic swamp ass for days.
Six friends are headed to the Free Love Festival nestled deep in the Red Wood forest. Samantha (Jamie King) is hoping to have a good time and put her psycho right wing ex-boyfriend, and bad acid trip behind her.
