This short film is a sequel to the TV series Space: 1999 (1975) and was produced specifically for a special convention held in 1999 to mark the year the Moon left orbit in the series. At the time, the film was shown with the understanding that it would be shown only once (due to licensing restrictions). However, in 2002 A&E announced it would include the film in a DVD release of "Space: 1999" episodes. Although not broadcast, this short film is considered canonical with the "Space: 1999" (1975) TV series.
This short was filmed on a mock up set that was made by a fan of the series. Fanderson, the Gerry Anderson fan club had previously covered the mock up set in an article and were ivery mpressed by it. When someone suggested that the set be utilised for a final sign-off to the series Fanderson decided to act. With Martin Landau, Barbara Bain and Nick Tate all based in L.A. it made sense to contact a UK based actor tied to the series. Tony Anholt was too unwell (he died in 2002) Catherine Schell had long retired from acting and was now living in France but Fanderson were able to make contact with actress Zuenia Merton who lived relatively close to where the mock up was located and she agreed to do it.
