Mark Addy would often call up Jami Gertz's mother to learn how to say certain words with a Midwest accent since Gertz's mother is from Chicago. Since Addy is from England, he had to be careful with certain words that were easy to slip back into his English accent.

Jami Gertz's character's name, "Judy Miller," was also the name of the little-girl character created by Gilda Radner on Saturday Night Live (1975). This tie may be a tribute to Radner, whom Gertz played in the TV movie Gilda Radner: It's Always Something (2002).

Sally Struthers plays the mother of Mark Addy in this series. In The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas (2000) he played Fred Flintstone, and in The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show (1971) she provided the voice of Pebbles Flinstone, Fred's daughter. Thus, Mark previously played a character that was the father of a character previously played by Sally.
