Interesting idea and premise, but not for 3 hours

"Das Konto", which means "The Account", is a German German-language film from 2004, so this one will soon have its 15th anniversary and it was directed by Swiss filmmaker Markus Imboden and he actually has some stuff in his body of work that I enjoyed. He also is one of the writers who adapted the novel this is based on. Let me add that I have not read the book, so I cannot compare the two different things here. The cast includes some solid names, nothing great or really impressive, but tolerable for a small screen release. Lead actor is Germany's trademark Obereber for television films Heino Ferch and I think as this one here is a character that needs more physical acting than great range, he is good for the part. And the general plot of a successful businessman aiming for a promotion when he gets framed for murder is also a decent one for sure. But looking at how you could call it even a mini-series at pretty much exactly 3 hours, it also needs to be said that the in-depth material is just not good enough for this duration as basically all the sub-plots away from the core of it all left me truly unimpressed, if not to say bored. The acting overall was okay I guess, but it's really not an actors' movie, but all about the thriller story-telling components that will have you on the edge of your seat way too rarely. Thumbs up for the filmmakers' courage to have characters killed on-screen as graphic violence when fit in appropriately with a good plot can boost a film's memorability. But this is one of very few positive aspects here only. Had they taken out all the good and made a 100-minute movie, then this could have been a fairly decent watch no doubt about it. Sadly the way it actually turned out, it is so off the mark and lacking focus that I really cannot recommend it to anybody except the very biggest Heino Ferch fans. Skip this one.
