Violence & Gore

  • Investigators examine the body of a dead girl. The body isn't seen under the bloody sheet, but the investigators description implies that it is very "twisted and broken" and very gruesome.
  • A teenage girl is scene covered in blood with her having been jaw ripped out, much to the horror of her mother. This is one of the goriest scenes in the movie, and, combined with the mother's reaction, is pretty horrifying.
  • A crazed man is seen holding a bloody fetus, and it is implied that it was forcefully aborted after he killed the mother. The same man is later seen carrying the fetus in a bloody bag and slamming it hard into everything. This is one of the gorest scenes in the movie, and some viewers might find the content both vile and offensive.
  • The main ghost, Kayako, is seen climbing down the stairs covered in blood. The scene is gory due her bloody condition combined with the stomach-churning and squishy sounds of her broken body moving around. Some viewers might find this scene disturbing and even repulsive.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The ghost of a young boy is frequently seen meowing like a cat. Some viewers may find it creepy.
  • A woman sees a ghost in a attic (not that scary) and gets dragged up into the attic and killed offscreen. No screams are heard but the sound of her radio malfunctioning and slight muffled gargles make the scene particularly disturbing.
