Trivia

During a break in the Academy Awards show, Dexter Gordon, Bob Hoskins, and James Woods met by chance in the lobby lounge of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. It was the first meeting between them for each of the three actors. Knowing they were probably not going to win that night, the three Best Actor nominees sat together at a table and drank a toast to Paul Newman (who was not present at the awards). See more »

Quotes

Bette Midler - Presenter: Best Original Score: Oh, my God, I got here! I cannot tell you what I have been through, getting ready for this star-studded event! I had my hair tortured by Emilio! I had by body pummeled by Ambrosia! I had my nails filed by Philippe! I have been worked over by more aliens than Sigourney Weaver! Oh, my God, but I *made* it! Now I know you're all on the edge of your seats, dying to know who I'm going to trash this evening. I hate to tell you this, but there is no trashing to be done in this category. These nominees...

Hilarious performances from Bette Davis and Robert Wise!!
9 March 2003 | by SkippyDevereauxSee all my reviews

This is the year that Paul Newman finally won the Best Actor award after six losses, but his win was somewhat overshadowed by the onstage antics of Miss Bette Davis and Mr. Robert Wise!! You had to have seen it to really appreciate how hilarious the Oscar telecasts can be!! Bette Davis presented the award, Robert Wise accepted the award and what followed was funny to watch. Here you had two people bickering onstage about who is going to talk first about the winning actor, and before they knew it, BOOM, their microphones were cut off and the hosts, Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn were getting ready to introduce the next presenter!! "Platoon" wins Best Picture, Marlee Matlin wins Best Actress for "Children of A Lesser God" and the supporting performances were from one movie. Michael Caine and Dianne Wiest for "Hannah and Her Sisters".
