Trivia

At the beginning when Chris Vaughn asks the sheriff what happened to the former sheriff it is said that the guy was a great man but they found one day he had mysteriously skidded off a deserted road and died hitting a tree. This is a reference to how the real Buford Pusser died.

The film takes place in Kitsap County, Washington. The Kitsap Penninsula is across Puget Sound from Seattle, and is home to both the Bremerton Naval Shipyards and the Bangor Submarine Base. A large part of the population are military personnel, and unlike in the movie, the area has a very low crime rate. The movie was actually filmed in Squamish, B.C. The opening scene was filmed on the Bowen Island ferry to Horseshoe Bay

Director Kevin Bray wanted to update the "Pusser stick" by making it a baseball bat instead of a piece of wood but there were objections, so the compromise was to just add a handle.

In filming the scene where Chris Vaughn smashes and breaks the tail light of Jay Hamilton's Porsche, Dwayne Johnson actually broke the car's tail light with his stick. (He was only supposed to *pretend* to break the tail light, with a "smashing glass" sound effect to be added later, in post-production.) After breaking the tail light, Johnson suddenly remembered that the Porsche was a rental car, which had been rented for one day to film that specific scene. He called over to his director, "Uh, Kevin, did we just *buy* this $90,000 Porsche?" Director Kevin Bray replied, through his megaphone, "Yes, thanks, Rock!" In the film, you can see actress Cobie Smulders sitting next to Neal McDonough in the Porsche. Her reactive flinch is genuine when Johnson smashes the tail light.

As a young man, Buford Pusser, the real life sheriff upon whom this reboot of the movie is based, wrestled professionally across the South as "Buford the Bull". Dwayne Johnson, who plays the character inspired by him, began his acting career as a professional wrestler.

Cobie Smulders has a nonspeaking cameo as a passenger in Jay's car who is played by Neal McDonough. Both actors would go on to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and both also appeared in a film with Tom Cruise, McDonough in Minority Report (2002) and Smulders in Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016)
