'Swayze Didn’t Need It': John Wick Star Scott Adkins Criticizes Road House Remake’s CGI Fight Scenes
Scott Adkins criticizes CGI use in Road House remake fight scenes, praises McGregor's acting debut. New fight technique in remake replaces actors with 'pillows,' enhances the impact but is not well received by Adkins. Adkins acknowledges similar techniques used before, but thinks CGI should be used sparingly.
Action movie star and John Wick: Chapter 4 actor Scott Adkins has criticized the use of CGI in the recent remake of Road House. Taking to Twitter/X, Adkins, who has long been known as the action genre’s best kept secret, said that, while he enjoyed the movie and the acting debut of UFC fighter Conor McGregor, he was left unsatisfied by the use of CGI in the fight scenes.
“I really enjoyed Road House. Doug Liman - great job subverting genre & Gyllenhaal in amazing shape, respect! What a debut from @TheNotoriousMMA happy when a movie like this does well as...

Marvel fans will soon be getting yet another addition to their video game collection of the superheroes and supervillains league: Marvel Rivals. But this new Super Hero Team-Based Pvp Shooter video game, which has only been revealed recently, seems to have more than one thing that gamers are concerned about.
Marvel Rivals.
For instance, the fact that Marvel’s planet-eating cosmic deity Galactus has been introduced in this too, but only in the form of a female character. Yet, even that’s not all that concerning, considering how fans and gamers are even more apprehensive about one other character of this game: The daughter of Galactus, Galacta!

Michael Keaton’s 2 Tim Burton Movie Returns Mean A Sequel To His 41-Year-Old Comedy Has To Be Coming
After Batman and Beetlejuice returns, a Mr. Mom 2 featuring Michael Keaton is a possibility in Hollywood's horizon. Jack Butler could return to help his son or care for his grandkids in a potential Mr. Mom 2, following 1983's family comedy premise. Making Mr. Mom into a successful franchise sequel would be more challenging compared to Keaton's Batman and Beetlejuice returns.
With Michael Keaton reprising his decades-old Tim Burton movie roles from Batman and Beetlejuice in 2023 and 2024, it seems a sequel to his other iconic 1980s movie is in order. While Michael Keaton has had no shortage of exciting new roles in recent years, such as his outstanding performances in Dopesick, Spotlight, and Spider-Man: Homecoming, the Oscar-winning actor has drawn wider attention as of late after returning to his two classic 1980s characters. Both of these movies were originally directed by Tim Burton, who began the first of his five collaborations...

Jake Gyllenhaal brings a quiet yet powerful energy to his role in the action-packed remake of Road House. The Dominican Republic setting adds a grounded and community-driven vibe to the film's reimagined narrative. Liman's dynamic action sequences and Gyllenhaal's layered performance elevate the Road House remake to new heights.
Dalton is an ex-UFC fighter struggling to move past the violence of his life and make enough money to survive in Road House. When Frankie, owner of a roadhouse in the Florida Keys, asks him to work as a bouncer and protect her establishment from a local gang, he has little choice but to agree. After proving himself a major obstacle for the gang, local crime boss Brandt brings heavy-hitter Knox to level the playing field, with his new life proving to be even more dangerous than anything he faced in the Octagon.

From Rocky Balboa fights to cornfield baseball games, virtually every mainstream sport has received a few moments in the Hollywood spotlight. But it’s hard to think of a sport more intrinsically intertwined with cinema than bodybuilding. Football fans might enjoy watching “Remember the Titans” on an offseason afternoon, but cinematic recreations are unlikely to scratch the same itch as live games on an NFL Sunday. Bodybuilding, on the other hand, has enjoyed a symbiotic relationship with Hollywood ever since a certain Austrian named Arnold Schwarzenegger set foot in California. For the past half century, documentaries about the sport have often drawn more mainstream attention than any live broadcast of an actual competition.
In many fans’ eyes, the sport of bodybuilding first gained mainstream legitimacy with the release of “Pumping Iron,” George Butler and Robert Fiore’s landmark 1977 documentary about Schwarzenegger’s preparations for the Mr. Olympia competition. In addition...

Kendrick Lamar has heard Drake and J. Cole’s most recent subliminal disses, and he’s done playing games. In his guest verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s new song “Like That,” the rapper comes after his friends turned foes.
After opening his verse by calling out “n****s talkin’ out of they necks,” Kendrick name-drops Drake and Cole’s 2023 hit “First Person Shooter” off the former’s album, For All the Dogs: “Fuck sneak dissin’, ‘First Person Shooter,’ I hope they came with three switches.”
This line is a direct response to Cole boasting on “First Person Shooter” about being the “hardest Mc” out of the so-called Big Three rappers of their generation. “Is it K-Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me?” he raps. “We the Big Three like we started a league, but right now, I feel like Muhammad Ali.”

It is fair to say that the line between sports and films is often blurred in Tinseltown. While athletes dabble in acting, actors often try their hand at sports. As an illustration, consider Conor McGregor, the Irish mixed martial arts fighter who just made his acting debut in the latest flick, Road House, helmed by Doug Liman.
His performance received high praise from moviegoers and critics alike, with some even suggesting he could be the next “Arnold Schwarzenegger”. Regardless, he may have stolen the show in the Jake Gyllenhaal starrer film, but he is far from ready to dethrone Dave Bautista. Not to be overlooked is the fact that the latter has an equally impressive acting resumé.

Harvey Weinstein is currently serving a twenty-three-year sentence in prison for r-pe and s-xual assault. Of course, this might not have been possible without the many prominent actresses who built up the courage to talk about the heinous acts of the disgraced producer, Angelina Jolie included.

After Harvey Weinstein tried to make unwanted and inappropriate advances against Angelina Jolie when she was just 21, the actress swore that she would never work with him ever again. She stayed true to the promise she made herself, but when her then-partner Brad Pitt wouldn’t do the same, she got absolutely furious, rightly so.

Abe Sylvia‘s new Apple TV+ series stars Oscar winner Allison Janney, Oscar winner Laura Dern, Oscar and nine-time Emmy Award nominee Kristen Wiig, and latin music icon Ricky Martin. But the true star of “Palm Royale” may just be the one and only Carol Burnett. O.K., maybe that’s an exaggeration as Burnett’s character is in a coma for the first three episodes, but it was the first subject we broached with “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” screenwriter and he was game, noting that Burnett is “my favorite subject.”

Back when it was all fields around here, TV show titles were in abundance. In the days when television used to be hand-stretched and sun-dried and made at a gentlemanly pace by artisanal methods, there were titles galore. Worzel Gummidge. Starsky and Hutch. Last of the Summer Wine. Distinct and descriptive titles milled around drinking holes, and all writers had to do was toss in a lasso and drag out a Sapphire & Steel or a Knight Rider.
But thanks to streaming, nowadays TV is made in windowless factories and injected with antibiotics and e-numbers. There can never be enough. Every streamer requires a chunky flow of television shows they can release all on the same day, not tell anybody about, and quickly delete for tax purposes before anybody watches them. And the first casualty? The titles.
The problem is, the glut has dried up the supply. Abstract nouns. Character names.

Watching characters from Bridgerton and other period dramas whirl their prospective love interests around the ballroom floor has inspired fans to take up Regency-era dancing themselves, a UK-based dance teacher reports.
Historical dance teacher Lottie Adcock told BBC Radio York that she has seen a rise in the number of students wanting to learn the style of dances seen in Bridgerton, any number of Jane Austen adaptations and other period dramas set in the Regency era of the early 1800s. She added that the average age of prospective students had also dropped.
Adcock runs a school called Dance the Past and she explained: “Regency dancing is definitely having a resurgence and the people who watched Mr Darcy think, ‘Actually I want to have a go at doing that.

“Pleasant Outcast,” a 10-part Korean series that is set to appear at Canneseries next month, is a companion piece to “Concrete Utopia,” the hit film from last year that was selected as South Korea’s Oscar contender.
Both the Lotte Cultureworks series and “Concrete Utopia,” a dystopian drama-thriller set in a post-apocalyptic Seoul, are adapted from best-selling webtoon “Cheerful Outcast,” by Kim Soong Nyung. The film was frequently compared to William Golding’s seminal novel from the 1954 “Lord of the Flies” and its 1964 film adaptation.
Using the first part of the webtoon, the series follows Dong-hyun, a high school junior, who barely survives his day-to-day bullying at school. “When he wishes all were dead, an unexplained powerful earthquake destroys his school. A feast for the eyeballs! That’s what the UK’s new TV drama (British shows returning for another series this year are here) output looks like for 2024 – a year of thrills, chills and laughs, from supernatural escapism to immersive historical dramas, true stories brought to life, and plenty to feed Britain’s crime mystery obsession.
Here’s a flavour of what 2024 holds for your TV: book adaptations include a new imagining of Ian Rankin’s Rebus detective stories coming to the BBC, a scandalous adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s iconic novel Rivals (starring David Tennant), Jack Thorne’s take on Lord of the Flies, and much much more.
There’s high-stakes action in thrillers like Red Eye, Black Doves and Nightsleeper, and you can transport yourself back in time to discover the lives of a notorious eighties jewel thief in Joan, sinister Jacobean power play in Mary and George,...

Exclusive: After declaring in a Deadline guest column that he would boycott the SXSW Opening Night debut of Road House, director Doug Liman has changed his mind, and is in the Paramount Theatre right at this moment. I’m told that Liman won’t take the stage to introduce the movie, he’ll just be in the crowd watching. It’s a tradition for him, slipping into theaters and watching how his movies play.
Liman made the difficult decision to stay away because he felt that Amazon MGM signed him to a deal that called for a theatrical release of Road House, but instead switched and is launching the film directly on the Amazon Prime streaming service, beginning March 21. Producer Joel Silver also exited the premises in a dispute that has become a bare knuckle brawl in the press. In Liman’s column, he said even though Road House tested...

A new chapter in the “Kung Fu Panda” saga has been unleashed upon movie patrons. This film is accurately called Kung Fu Panda 4 and comes eight years after 2016’s Kung Fu Panda 3. This adventure, however, seems to be less a solid entry in the series and more of an example of the law of diminishing returns as it enjoys its best moments harkening back to earlier films in the series.
Po (Jack Black) faces his most difficult challenge yet as he is told he must retire from fighting as the Dragon Warrior and focus on more spiritual endeavors. For Po, however, this is problematic for two reasons: 1) first, he does not feel qualified to ascend to any sort of spiritual leadership and instead prefers to stick to “kicking butt” and, 2) he must find and train an apprentice to replace himself as the new Dragon Warrior to protect the Valley of Peace.

The week of the Super Bowl was a relatively light one for streaming in the United States — but that allowed a couple of shows to score solid positions in the top 10 despite relatively modest viewing times.
Netflix’s romance One Day, which premiered Feb. 8, was one of them — finishing fifth among original shows despite only gathering 296 million minutes of viewing in the U.S. for the week of Feb. 5-11. In the previous five weeks, the show in that slot had averaged 555 million minutes of watch time. Paramount+’s Halo also made its first appearance in the top 10, finishing fourth among originals with 354 million minutes as it opened its second season.
Only two shows, acquired stalwarts Young Sheldon (1.35 billion minutes on Netflix and Max) and Bluey (1.14 billion minutes on Disney+), eclipsed a billion minutes for the week. Mr. and Mrs. Smith moved into first place among originals with 765 million minutes of watch time.

“True Detective” was the fifth most-streamed title of the Feb. 5 to Feb. 11 viewing window, during which the fifth episode of “Night Country,” the anthology series’ fourth season, was released.
With 745 million minutes watched, the series saw a jump from the week before, when it ranked at No. 10 with 648 million minutes. These figures include streaming viewership of all of “True Detective,” not just “True Detective: Night Country,” though it’s clear that the season performed well in its own right based on data released when the season was still airing. It should also be noted that the Nielsen chart only accounts for streams on max, not linear viewers on HBO’s cable channel, where the network often sees approximately one-third of its viewership.

Prolific genre filmmaker Takashi Miike (Audition, Ichi the Killer) quietly released short film “Midnight,” based on a manga by Osamu Tezuka, on Apple’s YouTube channel yesterday. And that’s not even the most impressive part: per THR, the filmmaker shot the thrilling short on an Apple iPhone 15 Pro.
Watch “Midnight” below.
The short film “centers on a late-night taxi driver named Midnight, played by popular Japanese actor Kento Kaku, who roams the streets of Tokyo offering help to those in need. The film follows Midnight as he comes to the aid of a young woman, played by Konatsu Kato, who is struggling to take over her recently deceased father’s truck-driving business while fighting off a nefarious local gang, led by an evil boss played by the acclaimed character actor Yukiyoshi Ozawa.”
The 19-minute comedic action short looks incredible for being shot on an iPhone, and mixes live-action with manga illustrations.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Hollywood icon and former Governor of California, has previously expressed a desire to collaborate with Taylor Sheridan, the acclaimed writer-director-producer. But the reason for his interest is not what you might expect.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter last year, Schwarzenegger revealed a surprising reason for wanting to collaborate with the acclaimed Yellowstone showrunner. The action star, 76, revealed that his desire to work with Sheridan stems from a desire to compete with his longtime rival, Sylvester Stallone.

“It was a competition against Sly,” he said, referring to his Escape Plan co-star. While the reasoning may seem a bit odd, it’s hard to argue with the rapport that Schwarzenegger and Sheridan could bring to the table.
Sheridan is known for his gripping and intense storytelling, while Schwarzenegger has proven time and time again that he can bring both humor and heart to his performances.

Donald Glover's mom played a role in season 1, now Maya Erskine's father might feature in Mr. and Mrs. Smith season 2. Peter Erskine, a renowned Jazz drummer, could play Jane's father in the spy dramedy, adding depth to Jane's character development. Introducing Jane's father would bring an intriguing plot point, akin to John meeting his mother, while expanding on the show's family dynamics.

The trailer for "X-Men '97," the revival of the cartoon series beloved by '90s kids everywhere, recently premiered. That means it's that time again — that time when nerds like me try to get you superhero movie/TV fans to read some dang comics.
"X-Men" itself was enthusiastic about adapting comic stories, particularly ones written by Chris Claremont during his legendary 17-year-long run on "X-Men". Season 1 of "X-Men" closed out with the two-part time-travel comic "Days of Future Past" and then, in season 3, the show adapted both the original "Phoenix Saga" and "The Dark Phoenix Saga."

Houston is back as a consulting producer on "X-Men '97" and head writer Beau DeMayo recruited "X-Men" fans as his team, feeling that enthusiasm about the...

Jane could have killed Posey's character, saving John and leading to their joint defection from the Hihi agency Posey's character might bring Jane and John to the mysterious Hihi owner, unveiling more secrets about the agency's true intentions. With the possibility of new characters saving Jane and John, season 2 could introduce fresh stories and potential twists.
The ambiguous ending of Amazon's television adaptation of Mr. & Mrs. Smith leaves a number of possible ways for John and Jane's characters to return. The celebrated new series feels much more like a remixed version of the original 2005 movie of the same name than a devoted remake. Let’s get one thing out of the way first. The Road House remake looks badass. I was among those who were wary of director Doug Liman remaking the Patrick Swayze action classic, especially when I heard Jake Gyllenhaal would be leading the cast.
