Do awards shows for advertising have “for your consideration” ads for their ads?
While your brain ponders that Russian nesting doll of a question, let’s take a look at the contenders for this year’s Golden Trailer Awards, the top honor for those clips that make you say, “Man, I’ve got to see that.”
The 15th annual competition doesn’t honor the best movie, just the most alluring promo. And it has a somewhat dubious special award known as the “Golden Fleece,” which honors the best trailer for the worst film.

All Cheerleaders Die
Written and directed by Lucky McKee and Chris Sivertson
USA, 2013
Opening with pom-pom twirling, head-splitting glee, All Cheerleaders Die arrives on British shores after a cartwheeling through the North American festival circuit, including a prestigious slot in this year’s Midnight Madness strand of the Toronto International Film Festival. Ostensibly a remake of their 2001 film of the same name, directors Lucky McKee and Chris Sivertson owe a debt of gratitude to the black heart of Heathers and the quippy, macabre banter of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with this gruesome yarn about a high school seeking a new head cheerleader after the previous sneering matriarch is dispatched during a freak turf-side accident. The scheming Maddy (Caitlin Stasey) tries out for the new job, much to the disgust of the immaculately molded female elite, but once accepted into the fold, she finds herself the toast of the school and...

Word just came down that Image Entertainment has picked up the complete Us rights for All Cheerleaders Die, the occult horror-comedy feature from co-directors Lucky McKee (May, The Woman) and Chris Sivertson (The Lost, I Know Who Killed Me). Described as a combination of teen cult classics like Heathers and high-school horrors like Jennifer's Body and All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, Cheerleaders is the remake of a 2001 indie project of the same name by McKee & Sivertson, and involves an occult-practicing teen who takes supernatural revenge on her school's football team... with unexpected and horrifying results. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Image sales picked up the rights after a successful Midnight Madness screening at this year's Toronto's International Film Festival. A theatrical release is now slated for Spring 2014.

Lucky Mckee has always had a bizarre sense of style I’ve never quite come to terms with. Some of his films are cult crackers (May) and others are more laid back (Red). His new film All Cheerleaders Die, co-directed with Chris Sivertson, is his most shameless step into black comedy and madcap yet.
The film follows a rebel teen (Caitlan Stasey) as she attempts to infiltrate a group of cheerleaders in order to exact revenge on the captain of the high school football team. A supernatural occurrence throws the group of cheerleaders into a whole mess of occult violence and bitchy high school drama where cheerleading is the least of their worries.

Not too long ago we saw a rather impressive list of films announced for the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival 2013. With titles like Gravity, 12 Years a Slave and The Fifth Estate all set to appear, I simply cannot wait for September to arrive. With all the Oscar contenders flying around though, it’s easy to forget about some of the other films at the festival.
With that in mind, the Midnight Madness lineup has been announced today, showcasing some quality horror/thriller films that will serve as a break from the serious, weighty dramas that popular the majority of the festival lineup.
Amongst the highlights are the world premiere of Ei Roth’s The Green Inferno as well as the next film from Lucky McKee, All Cheerleaders Die.
Additionally, Tiff also revealed their documentary lineup today, which can be seen below along with the Midnight Madness films.

The Toronto International Film Festival's “Midnight Madness” slate celebrates its 25th Anniversary this year, and among the titles premiering is Eli Roth's highly-anticipated jungle horror epic The Green Inferno, as well as the World Premiere of Lucky McKee & Chris Sivertson's All Cheerleaders Die. Toronto's Ryerson Theatre will host another round of genre entries during Tiff's run from September 5th through 15th, and they've announced the full lineup of Midnight Madness screenings, almost all of which are world premieres. The horror comedy All Cheerleaders Die, from the directing team of Lucky McKee (May, The Woman) and Chris Sivertson (I Know Who Killed Me), will kick off the Midnight Madness schedule. The Green Inferno, Roth's homage to controversial Italian shockers like Ruggero Deodato's 1980 Cannibal Holocaust, centers on a group of college students on a humanitarian mission to save a tribe in the Amazon jungle, only to discover that that...

The Toronto International Film Festival celebrates 25 years of Midnight Madness with a murderers’ row of wild cinematic thrills. Programmed by Colin Geddes, the international lineup aims right for the jugular with everything from an extraterrestrial gore-thriller and sinister sex-comedy, to an Asian exotic horror film and a visually-stunning reinvention of the Italian cannibal genre.
“Since its 1988 launch, the Midnight Madness programme emerged as a touchstone of cinematic shock, satiating the adventurous palate of bloodthirsty cinephiles from all over the world,” said Geddes, International Programmer for the Festival. “When the witching hour strikes and the human brain starts slipping into dream mode, the Ryerson Theatre will once again serve up a feast of phantasmagorical characters and jaw-dropping scenes, playing host to bizarre biological monstrosities, ruthless dominatrix gangs, paranormal mirrors, and the hijinks of supernatural cheerleaders.”

Announcing nine out of ten titles from its 2013 lineup, Tiff’s Midnight Madness blazes in with a fever pitch, promising to be one of the most notable programs we’ve seen from the most perennially pleasing film festival sidebar dedicated to the horror genre.
Colin Geddes has placed the latest film from Lucky McKee, All Cheerleaders Die (co-directed by Chris Sivertson of I Know Who Killed Me fame) as the section’s opener and this marks the first time for horror alum McKee in the lineup (he usually premieres at Sundance, and if you remember, his last film, 2011’s The Woman got quite the notable reaction there). The 2013 Toronto Film Festival selection grew quite a bit today as the organizers announced the Midnight Madness, Documentary, Vanguard, City to City and Cinematheque selections for this year's festival. Among the title announced there aren't exactly a ton of names that pop off the paper immediately. The Midnight Madness selection will open with Lucky McKee's All Cheerleaders Die in which a young girl who practices the dark arts turns on her best friend after she joins the cheer squad. However, I assume most attention will be on Eli Roth's The Green Inferno, a film in which a group of humanitarians go to the Amazon to help a native tribe only to have the tribe kidnap them and later learn their cannibalistic heritage is very much intact. The Documentary selection includes plenty of familiar faces such as Marcel Ophuls, Claude Lanzmann and Errol Morris and Frank Pavich will be bringing Jodorowsky's Dune,...

This new version tells the supernatural story of a rebellious girl who joins the cheerleading squad in order to take down the captain of the football team. There’s also new Eli Roth, Sion Sono, Hitoshi Matsumoto…The hits keep coming, and I still can’t tell what’s going on in Rigor Mortis. Here’s the full lineup to drool over. The Toronto International Film Festival made some big announcements last week with their line-up of films premiering in the 2013 festival running from September 5 to the 15th, but for many attendees, the only movies that matter will be in the track programmed by Colin Geddes, the international line-up of genre and horror movies in the Midnight Madness track. This year, Midnight Madness is celebrating 25 years, kicking things off with Lucky McKee's sure-to-be-controversial All Cheerleaders Die , including Eli Roth's Amazon-based thriller The Green Inferno and seven others. Roth is a mainstay in the festival having premiered both of his early films Cabin Fever and Hostel there as well as bringing the Chilean disaster flick Aftershock to premiere there last year. Because, looking forward, 2013 promises to be such a fruitful cornucopia of cinema, we were excited to be able to easily list an additional 100 titles we are eagerly looking forward to catching in the new year. From these 200-101 titles, we’re happy to list several projects featuring the extremely busy Isabelle Huppert, include two English language projects, Ned Benson’s split film project The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby His/Hers and the Niels Arden Oplev film, Dead Man Down (and don’t forget her French projects, a starring turn in Serge Bozon’s followup, Tip Top as well as Guillaume Nicloux’s The Religious).
Additionally, the horror genre should be extremely noteworthy in the coming year, with new projects from Neil Marshall (The Descent), Alexandre Aja (High Tension), Fabrice Du Welz (Calvaire), Lucky McKee (May) and directing team Alexandre Bustillo & Julien Maury (Inside). We’ve got two Australian beauties playing...
