- Radha is employed with an advertising agency, and has a chance to see and meet prominent models. She meets her dreamboat, Vikram Verma, on one such day. Needless to state, she is madly in love with him, but he has eyes for his girlfriend, the gorgeous model, Maggie, only. Radha's attempts to make him notice her are in vain, and in desperation she confides in her grandma, for a solution. Her grandma instructs her to follow a number of simple rules, which will make Vikram notice her. Radha agrees to do so, but will the meek and timid young lady, be able to make an established young man like Vikram notice her?—rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com)
- Assistant photographer Radha, silently salivates over model Vikram Verma. Of course Vikram, who already has a girlfriend (Namrata Barua as the perpetually pouting Maggie) is totally unaware of her presence. Hence, Radha is sad and distracted, and silently sighs, and sighs, and sighs... until her sprightly grandmother (Tanuja in an endearing role) notices, and offers her a solution for the problem. Her solution consists of Radha's application of 5 rules, with Nirvana i.e.; Vikram's undying love as the ultimate goal. Radha agrees, of course (duh !). Begin application. End application. Goal achieved ? Watch Rules and find out.—Amodini (http://hindimoviereviews.blogspot.com)
- Radha (Meera Vasudevan) is with an advertising agency and has a chance to see and meet prominent models. Uday (Rajendranath Zutshi) is the lead photographer and Radha's best friend and confidant. She meets her dream boy, Vikram Verma (Milind Soman), on one such day. Needless to state, she is madly in love with him, but he has eyes for his girlfriend, the gorgeous model, Maggie (Namrata Barua). Radha is nervous around Vikram and gets very sad when she fumbles and makes a fool of herself in front of him.
Radha's attempts to make him notice her are in vain (this hurts her confidence, and she feels she is not pretty enough), and in desperation, she confides in her grandma Dadi (Tanuja), for a solution. Her grandma, who wants Radha to get over her crush and get on with her life, instructs her to follow a number of simple rules, which will make Vikram notice her. Dadi is practical and knows that love at first sight is a myth. She believes that love takes hard work and compromises on both ends. Yet, she also wants to help Radha get over her infatuation with Vikram.
Rule no. 1 - If you want him to notice you, don't pay attention to him, no matter how crazy you are about him. (When Radha ignores Vikram, it prompts him to introduce himself to her) Rule no. 2 - Let him come after you! (Maggie wants to do a film with Vikram, but Vikram is not interested in films and is only interested in opening his restaurant. This leads to a fight between Maggie and Vikram. Vikram tries reaching out to Radha (& wants to give her a lift), but she says no. This works as Vikram shares the taxi with her)
Rule no. 3 - Always be a surprise, never let him realize that he has fully understood you. (Radha becomes a mystery to Vikram and this prompts him to ask her for a dance at an office party. Radha falls in the pool with Vikram, and for the first time Vikram sees Radha in a "sexy" light.) Despite spending the entire evening with Radha, it is clear that Vikram still has feelings for Maggie, and this upsets Radha.
Rule no. 4 - Never let him realize that he has the ability to hurt you emotionally. Radha is hurt but hides her feelings from Vikram. Vikram feels that Radha is more stable emotionally compared to Maggie. Vikram breaks up with Maggie. He reaches out to Radha and kisses her. Soon, Radha and Vikram start dating regularly. Yet, Vikram is not saying "I Love you" to Radha. So, this is Dadi's new project and rule # 5.
Rule no. 5 - Praise him for almost everything, so he is comfortable in saying 'I love you'.. Dadi says that guys are afraid of professing their love, to avoid being rejected. So, if the girl praises them continuously, this makes the guys more secure and thus more confident in saying their true feelings. Radha deploys this tactic and it works.
She follows all these rules and finally makes him fall in love with her. But she then realizes that she does not love him and that she forced him into loving her by following the rules. She feels very bad about what she has done and breaks up with him. Vikram feels manipulated (when Radha tells him about the 5 rules and how she has used them against him) and is heartbroken.
But as time passes, Radha realizes that she does actually love him and becomes very depressed. Time passes by, and one day Vikram visits her home when she isn't home and ends up accidentally seeing all of his pictures that she has and realizes that she does love him. He is super thrilled and tries to win her back. But she is still depressed and keeps denying her love for him.
One day while filming a movie, Radha accidentally ends up in a hot air balloon in life-threatening danger. Vikram jumps into the balloon and saves her, and they both profess their love for each other, as the balloon floats away.
