According to Will Smith, the female lead was supposed to be Caucasian, but the producers did not want to make the lead couple interracial as it was considered a taboo. They also did not want the female lead to be black as they feared it would alienate white audiences. They decided to go with a Hispanic female lead.

During the Sky Club scene, Albert ask Egon what he thought of the design of the "Jets West Side Stadium." During the time this movie was being made, there were serious plans to build a new Stadium for the New York Jets on the West Side of New York City. But there were mixed reactions to the proposal, and eventually, plans fell through.
