EastEnders: Christmas Party
jboothmillard17 June 2005
Warning: Spoilers
After the very good Christmas Eve episode of 2003 where Alfie couldn't get his decree absolute and Phil Mitchell returned to the Square there was a hour special EastEnders Christmas Party. This was basically the entire cast performing small comedy, songs and sketches. Shane Richie (Alfie) hosted and performed in this quite well. There are some good moments that I remember from that night. These include Perry Fenwick (Billy Mitchell) teaching a class of celebrities how to speak like in the East End; the three men who can't get a woman, Shane Richie, Shaun Williamson (Barry Evans) and Cliff Parisi (Minty) singing Lonely This Christmas, Richie singing It's Cold Outside with Jessie Wallace (Kat Slater), and the final song Merry Xmas Everybody by everyone. As well as the past and present EastEnders cast there are some good guests as well including Jennie Bond, Jo Brand, David and Carrie Grant, Richard E. Grant, John Humphrys, Lulu, Richard Park and many more. It was number 45 on The 100 Greatest Christmas Moments. Very good!

I beg the BBC not to do this again!

I do think Eastenders is one of the best soaps on TV but honestly, giving it a special Christmas show in which they sing and do lousy sketchs, COME ON! As much as I like Shane Richie now doing Eastenders, people prefer to see him act NOT sing. (See what he did to Wham's I'm your man?) Espically doing sickening duets with Jessie Wallace, it may bring old cheesy Shane RIchie again! One of the worst things is that the damn Lame academy judges were there AND singing! No one knows them, get them off the show!

So if they this this again next Christmas, watch a good Only fools and horses Christmas special.

Nothing like it has ever been done by the BBC before, nor hopefully ever will again...
STAR RATING:*****Unmissable****Very Good***Okay**You Could Go Out For A Meal Instead*Avoid At All Costs

All I remember about Christmas '03 (as I mentioned in my Love Actually review) was being in a really grumpy mood, and this sacriligious slop did nothing to brighten the embers of my Christmas spirit. An embarrassingly cheesy, irritating, corny affair all the way that hopefully won't be repeated this year.In a nation caught up in a web of soap fever,it also emerges as a rather self-indulgent thing as well.I'm as big a fan of EE as anyone, but this...

They didn't even release it to buy,so that should say something...*
