Good show but a bit too serious for Saturday Nights
Izak8610 November 2007
Strictly Come Dancing is by no means a bad show, it is quite fun and the celebrities participating really enjoy themselves but as a Saturday night TV show, I do feel it is taken far too seriously, judges can be quite harsh and often seem to forget it's just a light entertainment show (Len Goodman blaming the viewers for voting wrong for example). So too do some viewers, getting quite angry if their "favourite" is knocked out.

I loved Saturday night TV in the 1990s when I was a kid, it used to be just all about fun and didn't take itself seriously. If they made Strictly a bit more like that, then it would be a great Saturday night show.

Amazing, gets better and better every year
youngever_877 December 2013
this show is fantastic, for me it's the perfect Saturday Night show, a bit serious and loads of fun, music, creativity, talents, entertainments ans emotions.

the 11th series is going crazy, it's just awesome beyond description from the props, production, music, costumes, Makeup, Pro's, themes and fun, as will as genuine lovely people and creative hilarious new professionals.

Iveta was the best Pro of this series in terms of Creativity, imagination, and great choreography.

Kevin Clifton is making the Cliftons, Grimsby, the Whole UK nation proud with his difficult proper choreography and immense energy.

even the Long standing Brendan Cole found a partner whom pushed him to the limit with his Choreography, he's creating lovely pure dance routines this series.

I'm more in love with the show this year because from top to bottom it's mind to perfection, apart from Sir Bruce sadly who get's worse with time.

I never think that the wrong people being voted off, because it's a vote and everyone who puts hours and hours in training deserves to stay whatsoever specially because of the passion they deliver, there's no prize money or contracts or dreams might come true if they win, it's just done for the pure Joy and entertainment.

I envy every single person involved even the tea boy!

enough said That I am Happy all the way through, sometimes, laughing so hard that I might fall from the sofa, and enjoy this Magical world.

perfect Saturday night where I'll never say "my night was wasted" never !

An insult to dance
christinearmstrong5 January 2022
This show gets one star from me purely because it allows time to take a long soak in the bath in order to avoid it.

Orange faces, flashy sets, over-coregraphed routines and pantomime level costumes make it one of the worst examples of high budget low quality programmes on TV.

Anyone with a true love of dance will see this for what it is: kitsch.

Why, when prime time viewing would so benefit from a programme which genuinely promoted an appreciation of dance would surely be welcomed by so many must we be subjected to celebrities attempting to reinvigorate their flagging careers by making exhibitions of themselves, while so-called 'judges' self- indulgent egos are afforded an outing.

Time for this pulp to be abandoned in favour of some genuine soul food, please!

I love this programme!
TheLittleSongbird12 June 2009
I will admit I don't think it is the best show on earth, it does get a bit too serious at times with the emotional training sessions and sometimes the wrong person gets voted off, two excellent example are Gabby Logan and Spoony. But the reason why I love this is because it is entertaining, what with Bruce Forsyth reciting his corny but hilarious jokes and pratfalls. One of my favourites was when he likened judge Craig Revel Horwood to a sour lemon. Here you see some truly talented dancers, honestly Jill Halfpenny and Alesha Dixon were amazing, and not so talented dancers, namely Quentin Willson and possibly Fiona Phillips. I loved the dresses, and the choreographies, and through the programme I got a lot of tips of how to dance a particular dance. And where would we be without the judges? The hissable Craig Revel Horwood, the sincere Arlene Phillips, the encouraging Len Goodman and the eccentric Bruno Tonioli with his increasingly silly comments, like "It's like a Robin Reliant with a Ferrairi". My favourite Craig criticism has to be "D-U-L-L, Dull!", and some of the celebrities make some truly hilarious comebacks, most notably Julian Clary's "You Wouldn't Know a Passo Doble if you sat on one". All in all, despite the flaws, this is a very entertaining programme, that people aspired to dance, should give it a try. 8/10 Bethany Cox.

I'd rather wander the streets alone at night than watch this.
TheFlyingDog14 October 2013
With shows like this spanning two hours of a Saturday evening, it's no wonder people go out and turn to drink. I'm appalled by the fact that by paying my TV license I'm helping fund garbage like this. Surely there's a better way to keep families entertained than two hours of people dancing and then cardboard cutout caricatures of judges play the crowd? I swear, the audience is only interested in hearing numbers of increasing value being shouted out, no matter how good or bad the performance was, and if one of the judges threw out the rules just for a moment and gave a contestant a mark of 11 out of 10, the audience would scream so gleefully loud that they'd all tear not only their vocal chords, but also a hole in space and time itself.

"Oh, but you simply must see (insert celebrity name here) do the Charleston!" I hear you say. No. No, I simply must not waste another second of my life watching this show with almost zero entertainment value. This is more the standards of ITV than BBC. In fact, I'm almost certain that this is actually a nationwide experiment for girlfriends and wives to test the patience and loyalty of their partners to the extreme. Can you sit through this without drifting off and staring at the wall for long periods of times? Without completely zoning out to the point of slipping into a coma? Try it. I dare you.

Fortunately for me I have to work Saturday nights. Unfortunately, with the wonders of catch-up, iPlayer and being able to record TV, I now have to witness it at any other moment in time as it's no longer restricted to its allocated slot. However, I do occasionally manage to slip through the net and avoid seeing around 90% of the show if I'm lucky.

I gave it a score of 2 out of 10. It gets one star/point for me and my partner still somehow being together, despite this show. It also gets a second star/point for my TV still being fully intact, no matter how strong the urge is to put my foot through the screen.

In contrast to those who dislike Strictly, I really enjoy it and consider it the thinking man's reality TV.

This program like most of its kind has become boring and repetitive .same stuff every year .you get a few true celebs but alot of wannabe celebs that noone really cares for. BBC charges a TV license to watch the same things over and over .the only good things on BBC are their exclusive dramas which are good , as for all this reality stuff , enough is enough BBC don't bore us anymore

Series 4 - best yet!
Pearl2413 January 2007
Series 4 of Strictly come Dancing was the best yet. Unfortunately, one of the contestants, Jimmy Tarbuck, was taken ill and was unable to compete which left 13 celebrities and their partners. Consequently we had a final with only two couples, the ex-England cricketer, Mark Ramprakash and ex-England Rugby player, Matt Dawson.

The bookies' original favourite, Emma Bunton, was knocked out in the semi-final. The two sportsmen were superior in their dances, with Mark's Argentine Tango receiving an almost perfect score of 39.

The final, because there was only two couples, meant that they had to dance five dances. Mark danced the tango, salsa, Viennese waltz, a dance to the judges' choice of music and a show dance. Matt performed a waltz, a cha cha, again the Viennese waltz and the same dances as Mark.

Mark and his partner Karen Hardy were triumphant with them receiving a maximum 40 points for their salsa to Hot Hot Hot.

The whole show was great. I cannot see it being topped in future.

It is 30 December 2007 - I am editing my comments from last year to say that this year's programme was even better as far as the dancing is concerned.

The final three were outstanding. I would have preferred a three-person final but unfortunately Kelly Brook had to withdraw owing to family bereavement, making a two-person final.

I was disappointed that Gethin Jones (the Blue Peter presenter) was knocked out in the semi-final as I feel he could have been the winner. I know this sounds strange, but you have to have seen it to know what I mean.

The eventual winner was singer Alesha Dixon who was superb throughout the contest. She beat Matt Di Angelo, the EastEnders' actor, although they were very close during the contest.

The worse thing about this year's show was the decision by the BBC to have the results show on a Sunday, despite being filmed on the Saturday. Inevitably the results were leaked onto the Internet which defeated the object of have tension in the results.

Another annoying thing is the lengthy pause between the presenters saying who is knocked out. We have been saying for years that we dislike this but still they do it. Give us a break - don't prolong the agony any further!

Who wants to watch this rubbish?
coltscroft12 October 2019
I sit through this rubbish to keep my wife company whilst she watches it. I'd rather be anywhere else and I mean anywhere else. It is appalling and the judges are some of the worst examples of human beings ever to be on prime time TV. Plus this drivel is funded by the TV licence which makes it even worse.

An evening of pure joy! If you don't like dancing, don't watch it; keep your misery to yourself.

Strictly Garbage
bobpike-9351223 October 2021
I would have scored it zero but not allowed.

Sadly my wife likes to watch this 3rd rate rubbish.

The band and singing is terrible. The two ugly sisters that introduce it with their cliched catchphrases like " the judges" is to say the least naff.

But if you aren't clapping you can't be enjoying yourself!

I Dread This Show Every Year
carolynocean13 October 2021
I wish that BBC, ITV ,and all the rest would recongnise the fact that not everybody gets into a tizzy everytime that there is even a mention of this programme ! Every summer , when I hear the words " strictly line up ", I want to hibernate for the winter , until it is over.

Every presenter natters on excitedly about who is going to be on it , who is paired with who , it even gets mentioned on the news , What ???

I for one, cannot stand it , never did , sometimes I think I am the only one , please tell me it is'nt true !!!!!!

I pray for the day that they will anounce the end of this show, although I will probably be long gone by then , and my family will probably play that awful theme music at my funeral just to ge back at me for all the negative things that I have said about it since it began, for what seems like a 100 years ago !

Only watch if you are content listening to screaming and clapping
dawnswindell17 December 2022
Seriously such a pretentious program, all you have to look forward to is constant screaming and clapping. Dancing takes place and then " screaming and shouting by the audience. So hyped up it makes me want to vomit. Such a sad state of affairs when tv is dominated by screaming and shouting audiences. If you are a fan of strickly you must be able to tolerate the enormous hype that comes with the program. Can't wait until It's finished but , ... guess we are then going to get "strickly best dances ,strickly best stars, strickly best moments and so it will go on and on. Think there should be a group of " campaigners to get rid of this silly show. Absolutely hate it. TV shows really shouldn't be about screaming and shouting audiences.

False tributes
sctivey27 November 2022
The over-emotional and syrupy tributes by the dancers after they have got knocked out are so sugary that my diabetes has got worse.o The quivering lips and catches in the voice as they say how wonderful their partner has been is very staged. They always say how they will be friends for life and stay in touch. Lets go forward 10 years and see if that is tbe case. Also the thump..thump..thump of the clapping is very irritating as is the whoiping at the end of what can be quite basic routines. Very often some weaker dancers get 7 when a 4 would be more appropriate. Once a judge picks up on a couple of errors they should be marked dowm. Craig usually has the right idea...hit them where their ability deserves. The show is too formulaic and predictable these days...a rest would be a good idea. There is always one couple that go on a 'journey' ar the expense of much stronger dancers. Ps why are the dancers in the same costumes on Sunday after 24 hours? The judges and presenters have a change.

Infantile BS
karenbolton-1593525 November 2023
Watching tonight. The son of J. Goody...Good Lord, is this what this show has come down to? Cry baby stories, screaming, shouting, more cry baby stories, feel sorry for me stories.... Amateur BS all round. Nothing to do with dance skill at all. It's just about the over made, over paid bimbos trying too hard to be funny and the shallow plastic ' judges'.🤣 If you are old or people genuinely know who you are, you won't stand a chance. All about the younger audience who probably don't know any better. Get rid of the overpaid BBC fodder , get some 'real' celebrities and this show might not descend into a 21st century TISWAS.

Disappointing
barbara-315198 October 2023
Having watched and enjoyed Strictly for many years I am disappointed in this year's show. It's getting very tired. What is all the fuss about over Angela Rippon. I don't feel she's been tested yet with the more complex dances. I believe the Strictly producers are being selective. Also, let's not forget she has a dance history. A definite advantage in my view. Get her out. Just look at some of the work the contestants with no dance background are producing. They are the real winners in my book. I'm not a producer so I'm unable to make any suggestions but I feel it needs a completely new formula.

Just not cricket
mcgountj3 December 2023
I love Leighton, he is a fantastic dancer, a nice person, he and Nikita are a great partnership, but.... He is obviously a trained dancer, he has ballet moves, and can move his body like a trained dancer and is currently in the West End.

Strictly is either a professional and an amateur, or it is a professional show.

The organisers have got it so wrong this year. People like Annabel who has been dancing her socks off, a true amateur, have got to compete with a professional duo.

If they win it will be a travesty.

It is putting me off watching the results on Sunday !

All amateurs or at least people who haven't danced for years, next year please. Back to the original script.
