I really like the new series of The New Worst Witch, the acting seems more realistic, in the old series everything seemed forced. I also find the story lines are more interesting than the old series, as the story lines are all very different and although sometimes predictable they always have plenty of twists and turns that leave you in suspense. Hettie's friends are more interesting, Cressie is my favourite as she is weird but also kind and a bit flaky which makes it more fun. And although at first i didn't like the new Miss Hardbroom, i think she actually does quite a good job, she looks strict and acts well. I always watch the show whenever it is on and really enjoy it.

I absolutely adore the Worst Witch, and I still watch it to this day. The New Worst Witch is a nice TV series, if not as good as the Worst Witch. Cackle's Academy isn't quite what I imagined here, and Caroline O'Neill is good as Miss Hardbroom, but she lacks the frostiness of Kate Duchene and Diana Rigg. Plus, like I felt with Wierdsister College, the story lines aren't as clever or as original. However, the music is fantastic, the writing is good with some funny moments and the camera work and special effects are decent. Out of the original Worst Witch series, as far as I can remember only Clare Coulter returns as Miss Cackle and she is great. Georgina Sherrington who played Mildred even appears in one episode. The acting from all the girls are all very spirited especially Alice Connor(who played Dolphin in the superb 2003 TV drama The Illustrated Mum). Annabel Barnston and Dominique Jackson(who starred alongside John Thaw in Buried Treasure). And Belladonna Bindweed is just as effectively stuck-up and irritating as Ethel Hallow. All in all, good TV series. 7/10 Bethany Cox

I find 'The new worst witch' awesome! I haven't watched the old one before it which was called 'The worst witch' but I don't think u should compare the 2 as 'The new worst witch' is supposed to be 'new' not another copy of the old one, otherwise it would be totally boring. I think Alice Connor is fabulous in it, she plays 'Hettie Hubble' really well, I can't compare Miss Hardbroom to the old one as I haven't seen it. But in the second series of the 'New worst witch' there is some new characters like 'Miss Widget' who I can't help but laugh when I see her as she seems really funny in the things she says and does, the actress plays her well. I think 'Hettie Hubble's friends are good, but I'm wondering if Anabel Branstan's hair is really that colour, or if it is faked???? All in all its great, but one downside is the script as I think the script is too predictable and you've already made up your mind what is going to happen and u were right! But apart from that its marvellous to watch and I recommend it to any1!

This links with my other comments, etc, re the four ITV works inspired by Jill Murphy's Worst Witch novels.
At 2008, this TV series is the final one and it is a follow on from the other series. It is sometimes considered as seasons five and six of those series. In many ways it is different to the feature of 1986, 20 years previous.
I noticed on a Worst Witch website that Children's ITV ceased its weekday broadcasts when there were still four episodes of this unaired.

The New Worst Witch 2004 2005 (end credits dates) is not like the original. It centres on Henrietta Hubble. It tries to be a Winter grade worst witch where the original novels are symbolic Spring? Potentially a disappointment as New does not at first appear to have the Spring grade qualities that might be hoped for.
The nice girrl in New, true Spring grade, is Mona Hallow, who can seem like a cross between Ruby Cherrytree and Madeline and Ron Weasley.
Cress is nice, very Spring grade, if crescent moon winter child rather than full, more'd, moonshine.
Hettie looks up to Millie and that is the problem. She has some of Millie's strengths but has developed her own individualistic versions of some of her flaws. When the cat ceremony got played on by bad girl Bella she ended up, serendipity wise, with a male puppy called Kittie. A real extension of Millie at Weirdsister. But Hettie showing symptoms of an assertive mental disorder that I once developed when in therapy, due to the therapy.
The school is old castle gloom from some angles, but not from all angles.
The ages are back to normal first and second year UK secondary school. This Cackle's might have an age range of Hogwarts 1 to 5 or 1 to 7, could be either, we are shown 1 to 3. The novels are 1 to 5. This is as the illustrations in the novels for year 1 and this tells me that if the 1998 had been made in 1995 with that cast? Trivial wishful thinking.

As an underclass in England I can accept that this is of British origin. It is from the same year strata as the Harry Potter 4 feature, which I find to be a problem as I rate the Hermione of that novel.
I found this series difficult to really like, at first, but after the first 20 episodes I could re-watch the earlier and like most of them a lot. Re-watch it after a couple of years and I am back to finding much, not all, of the series to be a problem. That is how Hettie and Bella are scripted. But I am now up to episode 8 and it is seeming really okay, as is the 1998.

i just have to say that the girl who plays Mona hallow that is her real hair and it's nice. How childish is it for people to pick on a young girl for that. I was a background on the worst witch and they are all very nice. so what if it was filmed "up north" it's a kid's TV programme they cannot afford a "castle in Canada"!!! I think they've done a brilliant job and this new Miss Hardbroom is much better than the old one. thank god they ditched the P.V.C. dress that was just creepy in the perverted sense. I think there is some great comedy scenes in it. Also the trio are adorable especially as they become closer friends.
Not too bad but why change the teachers?

I don't get what the big problem is with The New Worst Witch. Alice Conner is actually quite good, and I think it was a nice idea to put someone who had played Mildred in a previous TV show as Mildred in this series. The funny thing I don't understand is why have they added two new teachers: Miss Swoop and Miss Nightingale? They are replacing two perfectly good teachers, Miss Bat and Miss Drill, who were teaching Chanting and PE. All in all I don't think it's that bad a show. Making one of Hettie's friends the sister of Mildred worst enemy is a good idea, even though her hair is a very weird shade of red, so it might probably be a wig.

The New Worst Witch is absolutely terrible. Firstly, gone is the realistic castle they filmed on location in Canada. Instead, we have a horrible set, probably filmed somewhere up north. The new Mrs Hardbroom is absolutely silly. The first one was acted so well and serious, but this recast is terrible. The woman who plays her acts her as if she's a comedian, its awful. Then there is the new "Worst Witch" and although she's starred in quite a few things and has had her experience, she is no patch on the last "Worst Witch". The friends that are by her side are a joke. It's obvious that this show is trying to make every sort of stereotype, even a girl in a ginger wig - its laughable. This "New Worst Witch" is 3/10 - terribly dire.

this is the best TV program ever without a doubt! and I'm not just saying it because one of my best friends is the second lead character but it is very good.....now going back to Anabel Barnston who plays Mona hallow she gives an amazing performance you can really see the depths in her character and the variety in her skill as an actress and i can't see why she wasn't cast for the main character but I'm sure we we'll see, with her startling skill, her in the future and who knows whats next for this extremely talented girl I'm thinking Oscars and who knows what else all i can hope to say is that she remembers the people who supported her through times of hardship (me!) and thats really all i have to say about this great girl!!!!!! lily beck xxoxoxoxo
