MPAA Rated PG-13 for thematic elements, brief disturbing images, nudity and sexuality

Sex & Nudity

  • A man and woman kiss passionately and begin to remove each other's clothing. The woman touches the man's abdomen and places his hands on her clothed breasts. The scene cuts-sex is implied-and they are shown in bed unclothed but under the covers.
  • A little girl is seen in a bathtub only her shoulders are seen.
  • A man stands nude in an alley: his bare buttocks and back are shown, and he turns and his bare chest and shoulders are shown. The man's bare buttocks are shown in dim light while he walks to get in bed with his wife.
  • A woman's bare back is exposed when she gets out of bed and as she puts on a man's shirt (cleavage and a glimpse of the side of her bare breast is also seen). As she stands up, the shirt rises and her bare buttocks is briefly visible from underneath it.

Violence & Gore

  • A man is shown lying on the floor, choking with a bleeding wound in his stomach; his hands are covered in blood and he is surrounded by a man, a woman, and a small child.
  • A man is struck, he gasps, and other men approach where they had fired the shot and see a small pool of blood.
  • A man is shown lying on the floor with blood covering his hands, blood is coming out of his mouth and he dies.
  • A car being driven by a woman is shown crashing into a semi that is careening down the road, head-on, and bursting into flames (it is assumed the woman died on impact).
  • A man swings to punch another man after he presumably called him a derogatory term for homosexuals (it is not heard, but the other man comments that the man is a homophobe); he misses, the other man then punches him in the face and shoves him into a wall, and another man grabs the man who was doing the punching and drags him away.
  • A woman, engaged in active labor, is covered in sweat, and she turns to a man who is holding her hand and screams in pain, she moans and a crying baby is heard (the woman is wearing a hospital gown, and no blood is shown).

  • Six scatological terms, 6 anatomical term, 4 mild obscenities, 2 religious profanities, 7 religious exclamations.
  • Name-calling: idiot, weird, fat, crazy, old man, etc.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A man comments that he needs a Valium.
  • A man takes a bottle wrapped in a brown paper bag out of his pocket at a diner and pours alcohol into his drink.
  • A man drinks wine rapidly.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Someone dies in a car accident at the very beginning of the movie. Although it is not excessively bloody, it can still be difficult to watch.
  • Henry's involuntary passage into different times and places is not only confusing to the story, but could also even qualify as disturbing to children.
  • Henry's relationship with Clare when she is younger could be deemed questionable.
  • There are many highly emotional moments throughout the movie.

  • When Henry is dying, this can be very frightening and upsetting for children (and adults) This applies for both the scene where Henry's death is foreshadowed, and when it actually happens.
