Sex & Nudity

  • Clare and Henry passionately kiss and Henry fondles Clare's breasts underneath her shirt, leading to off-screen sex.
  • When Henry travels through time, his clothes stay behind. When he reappears, he is naked. Most of the time, he is shown from the waist up. But we do see his bare buttocks after one of his first time-shifts in the film and then a second time (very briefly) later in the film.
  • A man stands nude in an alley: his bare buttocks and back are shown, and he turns and his bare chest and shoulders are shown. The man's bare buttocks are shown in dim light while he walks to get in bed with his wife.
  • Clare reveals her bare buttocks the following morning as she gets up from bed. A sheet covers Henry.

Violence & Gore

  • A man is shown lying on the floor, choking with a bleeding wound in his stomach; his hands are covered in blood and he is surrounded by a man, a woman, and a small child.
  • A man is struck, he gasps, and other men approach where they had fired the shot and see a small pool of blood.
  • A man is shown lying on the floor with blood covering his hands, blood is coming out of his mouth and he dies.
  • A car being driven by a woman is shown crashing into a semi that is careening down the road, head-on, and bursting into flames (it is assumed the woman died on impact).
  • A man swings to punch another man after he presumably called him a derogatory term for homosexuals (it is not heard, but the other man comments that the man is a homophobe); he misses, the other man then punches him in the face and shoves him into a wall, and another man grabs the man who was doing the punching and drags him away.
  • A woman, engaged in active labor, is covered in sweat, and she turns to a man who is holding her hand and screams in pain, she moans and a crying baby is heard (the woman is wearing a hospital gown, and no blood is shown).

Profanity

  • At least 7 "s" words, 5 asses (1 used with "hole"), 4 hells, 1 damn, 1 S.O.B., 2 uses of "Oh my God," 1 use each of "Christ, I'm sorry," "G-damn," "Jesus," "Jesus Christ," and "My God."
  • Name-calling: idiot, weird, fat, crazy, old man, etc.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A man comments that he needs a Valium.
  • A man takes a bottle wrapped in a brown paper bag out of his pocket at a diner and pours alcohol into his drink.
  • A man drinks wine rapidly.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Someone dies in a car accident at the very beginning of the movie. Although it is not excessively bloody, it can still be difficult to watch.
  • Henry's involuntary passage into different times and places is not only confusing to the story, but could also even qualify as disturbing to children.
  • There are many highly emotional moments throughout the movie.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Clare has miscarriages before carrying their daughter to term. She is seen bleeding in two scenes. Once when she is in the restaurant and the other when they are asleep in bed.
  • A man awakens, touches his face and finds it covered in blood, he lifts the blankets of the bed and finds a pool of blood on the sheets, and he turns to a woman in the bed and tells her that she has blood on her nightgown. She has had a miscarriage.
  • A woman sitting in a restaurant holds her stomach and winces, she then puts her hand under the table and when she pulls it up again, it is covered in blood. She has had a miscarriage.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • When Henry is dying, this can be very frightening and upsetting for children (and adults) This applies for both the scene where Henry's death is foreshadowed, and when it actually happens.
