Scarlett Johansson Recalls Being Typecast After Career-Defining 2003 Role: "The Girlfriend, The Other Woman, A Sex Object..."
Image
Scarlett Johansson opens up about her early experiences in Hollywood after her breakout role in Lost in Translation. Johansson was just 17-years-old when she starred opposite Bill Murray in Sofia Coppola's poignant comedy-drama. Over 20 years later, it remains one of Johansson's best movies, and her performance seems even more precocious and impressive in retrospect. Although Lost in Translation introduced Johansson to a bigger audience than ever before, she soon found herself fighting against an industry that wanted to typecast her.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Johansson states that she was disappointed in the roles that she was offered in the years following Lost in Translation. Although she had proven her acting chops, she only received offers for bland roles that aimed to cash in on her looks.

After Lost in Translation, every role that I was offered for years was ‘the girlfriend,’ ‘the other woman,’ a sex object...

Mads Mikkelsen To Lead New Action Thriller 'Sirius' From Oscar-Winning 'Dunkirk' Editor
Image
Mads Mikkelsen has found his next project, and it's going to be an icy time at the theater. No stranger to action films, Mikkelsen will return to the genre in an upcoming project that sounds perfect for the Danish actor. The Hannibal star has been cast in Sirius, an upcoming thriller from one of the most acclaimed editors of our lifetime.

Lee Smith, the Academy Award-winning editor behind Dunkirk, makes his directorial debut in Sirius, an upcoming action film that will have Mikkelsen in the lead role. The film is described as "a gripping Arctic action-thriller inspired by the real-life Sirius Patrol, the Danish special forces unit charged with defending Greenland’s 8,700-mile frozen coastline." Neon International will be shopping the foreign distribution rights for Sirius at the Cannes Film Festival. Now in pre-production, Smith will direct the film based on a screenplay by Tony Mosher.

In addition to Dunkirk,...

'Batman Begins' Star Recalls Working With Christopher Nolan and Praises Dedication to Movies
Image
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Batman Begins and the 25th anniversary of Memento. The common denominator is, you guessed it, Christopher Nolan. During his incredible career so far, the Oscar-winning filmmaker has become known as a director who likes to collaborate with the same actors on multiple projects, even those in supporting roles. As well as the likes of Michael Caine, Kenneth Branagh and Anne Hathaway, Sons of Anarchy star Mark Boone Junior is another star to have worked with Nolan on more than one occasion.

MovieWeb recently caught up with the actor amid the release of his new film, I'm Beginning to See the Light. Having starred in both of Nolan's movies celebrating a milestone birthday this year, Boone took a moment to reflect on working with a master of the craft.

"Christopher Nolan is just an incredibly hardworking person who is very well prepared and, you know,...

Rediscovering ‘Public Enemies’: The Christian Bale-Michael Mann Partnership You Might Have Missed
Christian Bale at an event for The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Image Source: Universal Pictures Home Entertainment Christian Bale has worked with some truly amazing directors during his impressive career. As a young boy, he got his big break with Steven Spielberg in Empire of the Sun. Years later, he teamed up with Christopher Nolan to create the unforgettable Batman in The Dark Knight movies and delivered a haunting performance in The Prestige. And who could forget the collaboration with Michael Mann? Bale has a unique gift for finding directors who are able to tap into his greatness, and help him disappear into his characters, throughout the course of his career in Hollywood. Most people think of his collaborations with Spielberg and Nolan; they don’t remember how Bale has worked with Mann, the director of the taut thrillers Heat and The Insider, and the man responsible for bringing Hannibal Lecter to the big screen in Manhunter. This powerful collaboration happened...

Forget Deep Impact And Armageddon — Here Come Two Movies About People Swallowed By Whales
Image
Were you worried that there was only one upcoming movie where someone gets eaten by a whale? Fret not. There are two, actually.

Leslie Grace — an actor and singer known for "In the Heights" and the "Batgirl" movie that Warner Bros. deleted from existence — is set to star in director Felipe Vargas' next movie "Propel" (per Variety), which is described as "'Gravity' meets '127 Hours' underwater." Grace will star as diver Kate Acosta, who ends up swallowed by an enormous sperm whale while performing a commercial dive ... and who has to figure out how to escape with her life.

The particularly funny thing about this news is that "Whalefall," a novel by Daniel Kraus, is also being adapted into a major motion picture. In March 2025, Deadline reported that Josh Brolin was in talks to join the project's cast alongside star Austin Abrams, with Brian Duffield ("No One Will Save You...

Christopher Nolan Movies Ranked: From Worst to Best
Image
It’s time to look at the work of one of the greatest directors of our generation: Christopher Nolan. How big is Nolan these days? Interstellar, a movie which was never among the director’s top grossers, hit IMAX screens last week for its tenth anniversary, and screenings have been selling out constantly. The fact is – Nolan makes movies that belong on the big-screen, and he’s one of the few directors who’s arguably become his own franchise. For proof of that, one need only look at the fact that he’s planning a new movie, and the cast is jampacked with A-listers, because Everyone wants to work with Nolan.

A caveat – our Christopher Nolan movies ranked list is just one person’s opinion, and his work is divisive. Everyone has their favourites (and least favourites), so I’m hoping this ranking will open up some discussion in the comments below.

10 Movies With the Greatest Plot Twists of All Time
Image
Films have a unique way of showing us how stories are built, broken, and reimagined, and nowhere is that more evident than in a well-executed plot twist. It reshapes the entire experience and forces audiences to question everything they have just seen.

A great twist flips the narrative on its head. It isn’t, however, just about pulling the rug out for shock value. None of it matters if the scene you’re building toward for the entirety of your film falls flat. We’re looking at you, the much dreaded, “It was all a dream.” Succintly put, a good twist builds on three very specific things – anticipation, revelation, and satisfaction – and it only hits hardest when it ties into your characters and themes.

In this instance, we’re taking ranking ten movies that make us sit up stunned with the realization that we’ve been played, perhaps in the best way possible.

When Robert Downey Jr Roasted This Christopher Nolan Movie Years Before His Oppenheimer Casting: “I Clearly Need A College Education To…”
Image
Did Robert Downey Jr. Ever Roast A Christopher Nolan Movie? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Robert Downey Jr. once threw serious shade at a Christopher Nolan movie. Fast forward to 2021, and he walked straight into the heart of one and walked out with an Oscar. Talk about a bridge well burned, then casually rebuilt with gold.

Back in 2008, Downey was riding high off Iron Man and Tropic Thunder. Around the same time, The Dark Knight dropped and blew up pop culture. But Downey didn’t understand the hype. He openly admitted the film just wasn’t his thing and called it overly cerebral.

The MCU star jokingly added that he’d probably need a college degree to understand what was happening. DC Comics didn’t escape the roast, either. He cracked that it just wasn’t for him. Still, Robert Downey Jr. made it clear he was half-kidding. He shrugged off the remarks,...

Christopher Nolan Had To Follow One Condition To Direct Batman Begins
Image
It is hard to believe that "Batman Begins" will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. That one fact alone immediately evokes the first chord of Hans Zimmer's "Time" from his "Inception" score in your head, as you are taken aback at how stupid fast the years fly by these days. No one can doubt how much impact Christopher Nolan's first entry in his "Batman" trilogy left on the comic book genre as we know it. And while the sequel, "The Dark Knight," was arguably more influential, that film would not exist without the origin story that set it up.

Before Christopher Nolan took over the reins on Gotham City, he was notable among cinephiles for his masterpiece, "Memento." The film's nonlinear storytelling and neo-noir thriller elements gave viewers a glimpse into Nolan's creative mind, giving him his first Academy Award nomination for his original screenplay. His next film,...

'The Odyssey' BTS Images Reveal Matt Damon, Tom Holland & More in Christopher Nolan’s Epic
Image
Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan’s upcoming swords-and-sandals fantasy epic The Odyssey boasts one of the most all-star casts of all time, and we now have a new look at two of the lead actors: Matt Damon and Tom Holland. Pictured in character on set, Damon sports a great, big, bushy beard and looks fighting fit as he films a scene in Favignana in southern Italy.

Damon, who will lead The Odyssey as Odysseus, the legendary Greek king of Ithaca, was seen filming alongside Euphoria and Spider-Man: No Way Home star Zendaya (via People), who is rumored to be playing the goddess Athena in Nolan’s highly anticipated adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem.

The Odyssey marks Nolan’s first foray into full-on fantasy, with the movie retelling the story of Odysseus’ ten-year journey home following the Trojan War, which sees the warrior king facing a cyclops, Sirens, a witch goddess,...

Michael Caine writes in his new memoir, “Don’t Look Back, You’ll Trip Over: My Guide to Life,” that he was actually “terrified” of Heath Ledger on the set of Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” (via NME). Caine played Alfred Pennyworth in Nolan’s Batman trilogy, with Ledger joining the second installment as the Joker.

“The smeared makeup, the weird hair, the strange voice. It was chilling,” Caine writes of his late co-star. “Absolutely floored me the first time I saw him in action – I was terrified.”

Ledger’s performance forced the rest of the cast to “raise our game,” Caine adds. Ledger’s turn as the Joker is regarded as one of the greatest villain performances in movie history. He posthumously won the Oscar for best supporting actor. Ledger died in January 2008 at 28 years old, a few months before the July theatrical release of “The Dark Knight.

The Illusionist (2006) Movie Ending Explained & Themes Analysed: Is Eisenheim an illusionist or a summoner of soul?
Neil Burger in Interview with the Assassin (2002)
The predominant discourse around Neil Burger’s The Illusionist (2006) seems to largely center around its similarities (or dissimilarities) with the much-acclaimed “The Prestige,” released in the same year. Based on a 1989 short story written by Steven Milhauser, “The Illusionist” brings together such names as Edward Norton, Jessica Biel, and Paul Giamatti to present the story of an illusionist uncovering Victorian society and its ills. It has been noted by academics and critics alike how cinematic representation of the emergence of Victorian-era stage magic is the metaphorical bearer of the simultaneous magic in making: the magical world of the cinema. “The Illusionist” makes for a perfect case in point to trace the trajectory.

In this article, an attempt has been made to decode the ending of The Illusionist (2006) and provide a detailed analysis of some of the overarching thematic concerns of the film.

The Prestige (2006) Movie Ending and Themes Explained
Christopher Nolan at an event for Inception (2010)
If you’re a fan of cinema, you’ll know the name Christopher Nolan. The director is one of the very few modern filmmakers who still gets to bring bold, creative visions to life on a blockbuster scale. The reigning champ of the intellectual box office hit, Nolan has enjoyed a storied career in Hollywood thanks to his consistency in producing pulse-pounding cinema that also has the capacity to make you think. His obsession with the theme of time, invisible special effects, and multi-layered plot structures have dazzled film viewers for decades at this point.

Nolan studied English Literature, believe it or not, at University College London. While at university, he was the president of the Film Society and met his wife and future producing partner, Emma Thomas, on campus. His first feature film was 1998’s “Following,” but his career really took off with the groundbreaking “Memento” (2000). The Guy Pearce...

Christopher Nolan’s obsession with the perception of time has always helped create fantastical, character-driven modern-day epics that feel like rewatchable instant classics. But while all of his films garner a certain degree of respect from the fans, The Prestige, starring Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale, often gets left behind in collective memory.

The 2006 film, adapted from the 1995 novel of the same name, was one of Nolan’s first films that set him apart from the rest of Hollywood filmmakers. Not only did it establish the director’s fantastic hold over storytelling but also his ability to paint a compelling epic of human emotions surrounding grief, jealousy, death, and legacy.

Robert Pattinson at an event for The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)
Twins! Rivals! Clones! Hollywood is doubling down on dual roles
Robert Pattinson at an event for The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)
Robert Pattinson, Robert De Niro and Michael B Jordan are all pulling double duty in their new films and that’s just the start

For years, dual roles have been played largely for laughs. Think of Adam Sandler’s Razzie-sweeping twin turn in Jack and Jill, or Lisa Kudrow as both Phoebe and Ursula Buffay on Friends. Eddie Murphy was always particularly prolific, his most multiplicitous performance as a clutch of Klumps for Nutty Professor II.

There are exceptions, of course. But for every Legend or The Prestige there are 10 Austin Powers, Bowfingers and – shudder – Norbits. This year, however, is giving us a more dramatic breed of duplicate. Robert De Niro will pull double Don duty in The Alto Knights, Michael B Jordan will play twin leads in the supernatural Sinners and a pair of Robert Pattinson clones is currently headlining Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17.

These 2 Iconic Movies Accidentally Tell the Same Story (But Were Released 40 Years Apart)
Image
The concept of "twin films" has recently caught the attention of movie fans on social media. Twin films are a pair of movies with shockingly similar concepts that release in the same year. This phenomenon usually happens as a result of some cultural event bringing an idea to the forefront of the Hollywood hivemind, and two different studios entering development without awareness of each other. Some famous and funny examples include 2006's The Prestige and The Illusionist, two films about 19th century magicians, 2013's White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen, two films about attacks on the White House, and 2011's Friends with Benefits and No Strings Attached, two films about friendships turned hook-ups. Somehow, someway, these filmmakers settle on the same exact idea, and end up having to race to get their film released.

While slightly less notable, it's also interesting when films released decades apart somehow stumble upon similar terrain.

Christian Bale's 19-Year-Old War Movie With 90% on Rotten Tomatoes Lands on Prime Video

Rescue Dawn was a dramatized adaptation of Little Dieter Needs to Fly, Werner Herzog's 1997 documentary. Both films depicted one prisoner of war's harrowing experience after being caught behind enemy territory.

Prime Video is now streaming Rescue Dawn, Werner Herzog's 2006 epic war drama. Based on the true story of German-American pilot Dieter Dengler (played by Christian Bale), the film depicted Dengler's ordeal after being captured in Laos during the Vietnam War. Herzog previously recounted Dengler's story in Little Dieter Needs to Fly, which detailed the suffering Dengler's fellow prisoners endured, including torture. These were depicted in Rescue Dawn but toned down for a PG rating. The sequences were shot in reverse order over 44 days, so Bale and his co-stars can gradually gain weight during filming.

A Masterpiece of Suspense and Mystery

Let’s talk about why this film is such a gem. Christopher Nolan is best known for his massive blockbusters like Inception, Interstellar, and The Dark Knight, but The Prestige is arguably one of his most underrated masterpieces. It’s a gripping tale of obsession, rivalry, and sacrifice, wrapped in an intricate puzzle that keeps unraveling with every scene. Starring Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman as two feuding magicians in 19th-century London, this movie isn’t just about magic tricks—it’s about the dark lengths people go to in pursuit of greatness. 10 Actors Who Turned Down The Lord Of The Rings Franchise
Image
One does not simply walk into "The Lord of the Rings" movies. Wait, that's not the right quote -- or is it? The point is Peter Jackson's trilogy was a big deal around the turn of the millennium, and everyone wanted to be a part of Middle-earth. Well, almost everybody, since a number of actors turned down "The Lord of the Rings" franchise.

It's always a good time to look back at the casting process of major movies and consider the big what-ifs. More often than not, these films go through significant changes to reach their final form, and not every actor envisioned for a role lands up in the part. Look at the risky move replacing Stuart Townsend as Aragorn behind the scenes of "The Lord of the Rings," even though production had already commenced. It paid off in the end, since Viggo Mortensen's Aragorn is arguably...

Director Christopher Nolan Holds An Impressive Box Office Record
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

In terms of modern filmmaking, it's hard to do better than Christopher Nolan. Even dating back to his early works such as "The Prestige" and "Memento," it was clear that this man was something special. Everyone is going to have their favorites and yes, to an extent, film is a subjective medium. That said, Nolan's broad critical acclaim coupled with his ability to deliver a commercial hit makes him unrivaled in the 2000s. Rather quantifiably, he has proven himself to be the most consistently bankable director working in Hollywood today, and one pretty eye-popping stat proves it.

Nolan had a run from 2008 to 2017 that was, in a word, ridiculous. That run includes the $1 billion beloved blockbuster smash "The Dark Knight," his mind-bending thriller "Inception," DC's one-time highest-grossing movie ever "The Dark Knight Rises," the ambitious modern sci-fi classic "Interstellar," and...

‘Wicked’ production designer Nathan Crowley: ‘I just wish we could do it all again’
Image
You might expect that a man who has been doing production and set design on feature films for more than 30 years would be a bit jaded, and that earning a seventh Academy Award nomination for his work would be met with a shrug. But that’s not how it’s been for Nathan Crowley. Instead, the man who has made a career of being Christopher Nolan’s go-to production designer exudes joy and excitement while discussing his Oscar bid for Wicked on the eve of final voting on Feb. 11.

“I just wish we could do it all again,” asserts Crowley (watch his full Gold Derby interview above). When his interviewer expresses surprise at this declaration given that the usual feeling is one of relief, he assures, “I think we’ve all been spoiled, because nothing will live up to that experience. I look back on the two years I was...

Guy Pearce Considers Himself ‘Sh*t’ in ‘Memento’: ‘I Know Why I Didn’t Work with Chris Again’
Image
Actors are typically known to be a little hard on themselves, with many avoiding watching their final, cut-together performances at all, but Academy Award nominee Guy Pearce is happy to engage with a little self-evaluation. Well… not exactly happy.

In a recent interview with The Times of London, the Australian actor reflected on his work in Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending crime thriller “Memento” and the “existential crisis” that was brought on from revisiting it in a recent viewing.

“I watched ‘Memento’ the other day and I’m still depressed. I’m shit in that movie,” Pearce said. “I’d never thought that before, but I did this Q&a of ‘Memento’ earlier this month and decided to actually watch the film again. But while it was playing I realized I hate what I did. And so all this stuff about an exec at Warners being why I’ve not worked with Chris again?...

Guy Pearce embarrassed by Memento performance
Guy Pearce is embarrassed by his performance in 'Memento'.The 57-year-old actor recently rewatched Christopher Nolan‘s 2000 thriller and admitted he regrets his acting choices in the flick, calling himself "s**t".He told The Times: "I’m having an existential crisis. I watched ‘Memento’ the other day and I’m still depressed. I’m s*** in that movie. I’d never thought that before, but I did this Q A of ‘Memento’ earlier this month and decided to actually watch the film again."But while it was playing I saw that I hate what I did. And so all this stuff about an exec at Warners being why I’ve not worked with Chris again? It came crashing down. I know why I didn’t work with Chris again — it’s because I’m no good in ‘Memento.’”Guy previously claimed that he had never worked with Nolan...

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey: Everything We Know So Far
Image
What do you do when you’ve been to the vast reaches of space, reversed the temporal flow, ventured into the dreamscape – and, most importantly, swept the Oscars? With a three-hour, doom-laden, politically-driven historical drama, no less? In the wake of Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan could do basically anything. His choice: go full Homer with an adaptation of epic Greek poem The Odyssey. It should add a new quiver to the legendary director’s bow – his first swords-and-sandals epic, possibly his first fantastical film, and one that brings him a new leading man.

With pre-production rapidly ramping up on Nolan’s next movie, here’s what we know so far:

Tom Holland is said to be the lead

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Tom Holland on our screens – following Uncharted and Apple TV drama The Crowded Room, he’s been treading the boards on the West End in Romeo & Juliet.

Ryan Coogler's Sinners Was Heavily Inspired By An Underrated Twilight Zone Episode
Image
It's been 12 years since Ryan Coogler made his startlingly assured feature filmmaking debut with "Fruitvale Station," but he still feels like an unknown quantity as an artist. We know from "Creed" and "Black Panther" that he's got a knack for imbuing franchise movies with uncommon heart, and no shortage of swagger when it comes to staging dynamite action set pieces. But due to circumstances beyond his control (the death of Chadwick Boseman and the Covid-19 pandemic), he's only made one movie over the last seven years. That's a lot of time for a still-young filmmaker (he's 38) to sit on the sidelines, especially one whose oeuvre is curiously light on original movies.

That's not a knock on Coogler at all. Christopher Nolan directed a remake ("Insomnia") and three Batman movies en route to becoming the most prominent and praised studio filmmaker on the planet, so Coogler is in excellent company. But...

“Tom Holland weighs, what, 140 lbs?”: Christopher Nolan Ignoring Matt Damon For Tom Holland to Lead His $250 Million The Odyssey Movie Sparks Fan Outrage
Image
Tom Holland was confirmed for a role in Christopher Nolan’s next collaboration with Universal Pictures in October. It was revealed in December that Nolan’s film would be an adaptation of Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey. While things were going smoothly for the film, a recent report that Holland would be the lead has sparked fan outrage.

As the lead, it is assumed Holland would take on the role of Odysseus, who fans believe is a much older character for the actor. Fans initially guessed that Holland would likely play Telemachus, the son of Odysseus. They expected the role of Odysseus to go to Matt Damon, who is collaborating with Nolan for the third time.

'The Odyssey' Will Reportedly Cost $250 Million, Making It His Most Expensive Movie
Image
Christopher Nolan’s new movie is going to be epic by default, as it is almost impossible to consider a movie version of Homer’s The Odyssey as anything else. However, a recent report has seemingly revealed the equally epic cost of Nolan’s new venture, and it is going to be one of the most expensive movies that he has ever made, surpassing Oppenheimer, Tenet, and even his Batman trilogy.

Nolan has made several costly movies in his years as a director since spending just $6,000 to make his first feature movie, Following, in 1998. He was not given the keys to the bank immediately though. In 2000, his twisting thriller Memento cost $9million, The Prestige came with a $40 million price tag in 2006, and war drama Dunkirk cost $100 million just over a decade later. Of course, it was taking on a new chapter in the on-screen Batman franchise that saw Nolan’s budgets soar to over $200 million.

Quick Links 'Inception' and 'Interstellar' are Both 'Humanist' Sci-Fi 'Inception' and 'Interstellar' Bleed into 'Tenet' and 'Oppenheimer' Christopher Nolan Is a Unique Director

Christopher Nolan has slowly become mainstream Hollywood's main director, trusted with massive budgets and wholly original concepts. It might be hard to recall some of his earliest work, like Insomnia with Al Pacino and Robin Williams, but the middle of his filmography is where he began to take on the style and scale we associate with him today. Inception and Interstellar represent a turning point in Nolan's career, where his grandiosity or concept officially outweighed his penchant for smaller stories like Memento or The Prestige. They also represent Nolan's directing abilities and what can happen when he exceeds them.

Inception is arguably the high point of Nolan's concept movies. It balances high-thinking sci-fi with relatable character motivations and a sense of intrigue. Interstellar,...

Christopher Nolan’s $740M Movie That Should Have Won Him Best Picture 9 Years Before Oppenheimer Is Finally Streaming On Netflix
Image
Christopher Nolan’s incredible sci-fi drama, Interstellar, has finally landed on Netflix to ring in 2025, and its awards history may prove surprising given the film’s enduring popularity and acclaim. Since early in his career, Nolan has continued to exemplify a mastery of high-concept sci-fi and action films, such as with Memento, The Prestige, The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, and Tenet. In the decade since the movie’s release, the argument that the apex of Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi epic filmmaking arrived in 2014 with Interstellar has only received more support, laying the groundwork for the director’s massive achievements with films like Oppenheimer.

Interstellar debuted with positive reviews and an impressive box office showing for a non-franchise Nolan project. Following its IMAX re-release in December 2024, Interstellar has amassed over $740 million against a $165 million budget (via Box Office Mojo), and currently holds a 72% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite the widespread...

Nicholas Hoult Dunks on Elon Musk Over Tesla Photo
Image
There has been a social media war between factions of Maga recently, and Elon Musk weighed in with an odd post. Entertainment Weekly reports that the post on Twitter (currently X) was "part of an ongoing argument among supporters of President-elect Donald Trump about the value of immigration visas." The post was made in support of his argument for H-1B visas, which allow a certain number of skilled overseas workers to be employed in America. "We named @Tesla after Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest engineers ever," wrote Musk. "He was a penniless immigrant whose inventions led to American dominance in electricity generation and usage." However, Musk posted a photo of the actor Nicholas Hoult rather than a photo of the inventor himself.

In the image, Hoult was playing Nikola Tesla in the 2017 film, The Current War. Houlty saw the post and commented, "Clearly a very convincing performance I gave here.

Before Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Tom Cruise Promoted Another One of the Director’s Movies
Image
Tom Cruise Promoting A Christopher Nolan Film ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Tom Cruise pleasantly surprised the entire film industry in the summer of 2023 when he promoted Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, the latter’s magnum opus that would derail Cruise’s own Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One the very next weekend. This rivalry extended to reserving all the premium IMAX screens for Nolan’s film, a move some might equate with the life-threatening stunts the Ethan Hunt actor is famous for. However, assuming the persona of a true movie star, the Top Gun actor has long been an advocate for films beyond his own, predating his endorsement of the Cillian Murphy–Robert Downey Jr. starrer.

The incident ties back to Cruise’s consistent efforts to fill theater seats and save the cinema industry post-covid-19, a dedication publicly acknowledged by Jurassic Park director Steven Spielberg, who credited Cruise for “saving the...

Everything We Know About 'The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum'
Image
The Lord of the Rings remains one of the greatest pieces of fiction ever adapted to cinema, having released two trilogies directed by Peter Jackson and a standalone feature helmed by legendary anime filmmaker Kenji Kamiyama. Furthermore, Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power is constantly expanding the lore of Middle-earth, but there's still a great deal of context to adapt from J. R. R. Tolkien's writings. As a result, Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to make additional films based on the writer's fantasy material, with the upcoming one spearheaded by Andy Serkis.

The director behind the works King Kong, as well as The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, has signed on for a producing role in the upcoming film The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which is still in its development phase. Even though Warner Bros. has not released anything substantial about the film,...

Michael Caine's Perfect James Bond Replacement Was Killed By 2 Sequel Flops In 2 Years
Image
Michael Caine's perfect James Bond replacement, The Ipcress File, was unfortunately cut short by two back-to-back sequel flops. With more than 175 acting credits to his name, Caine has starred in classic movies such as The Man Who Would Be King (1975), Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), Get Carter (1971), and Alfie (1966). Caine is also celebrated for starring in several of Christopher Nolan's best movies, such as Interstellar, Inception, The Dark Knight, and The Prestige.

The Ipcress File was released in 1965 and starred Caine and a clever spy in London named Harry Palmer. The film was directed by Sidney J. Furie and also featured appearances by Nigel Green, Guy Doleman, Sue Lloyd, and Gordon Jackson. The Ipcress File received an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 97% matched with an audience score of 85%. The success and acclaim of the first film sparked two back-to-back sequels in 1966 and 1967, which tanked hard and essentially sunk the spy franchise.

The Correct Order To Watch Every Christopher Nolan Movie
Image
26 years into his career, Christopher Nolan is charging along on one of the most remarkable creative and commercial runs the film industry has ever seen. Since he burst onto the scene with his breakthrough second feature "Memento" in 2001, all he's done is make one critically acclaimed box office hit after another. Considering the sizable budgets he's become accustomed to working with, it's a winning streak that any of our big-swing maestros can't match. Even Steven Spielberg experienced critical and/or commercial turbulence at this point in his career, with films like "1941," "Empire of the Sun," "Always," and "Hook." But aside from "Tenet" (which would've been a blockbuster had the Covid pandemic not kept the vast majority of moviegoers out of theaters over the summer of 2020), all of Nolan's films have doubled their production budgets at the global box office, and are currently rated fresh at Rotten Tomatoes.

How best...

Though Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are nowadays setting friendship goals for the masses, it wasn’t always like that. Deadpool and Wolverine have been famous for their enmity in the Marvel comics and while it wasn’t the same in real life, Reynolds and Jackman took their sweet time to build their friendship and equation over time.

Now, we see the two support each other in every endeavor. Not just Reynolds, but Jackman has also grown close to the Deadpool star’s family with him showing up at the premiere of It Ends with Us, starring Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively. Interestingly, Jackman entered Reynolds’ life when he was dating Scarlett Johansson back in the mid-2000s.

Christopher Nolan’s Next Movie Will Adapt Mythic Greek Epic The Odyssey, Universal Confirms
Image
The movies of Christopher Nolan are all, in their way, Odyssean epics, Homeric voyages into dreams (Inception), space (Interstellar), time (Tenet), science (Oppenheimer), magic (The Prestige), billionaires in batsuits (The Dark Knight trilogy). But now, after months of frantic speculation about what the Oscar winning auteur is cooking up next with Universal, we know exactly what Nolan's next cinematic odyssey will be. And, well, it is the granddaddy of 'em all — it is The Odyssey. Yes, just tonight, Universal casually tweeted out the huge news that the newly knighted Sir Christopher Nolan's 13th film will be an IMAX sized, globe-trotting adaptation of Homer's epic Greek poem.

"Christopher Nolan’s next film The Odyssey is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology," reads Universal's official post. "The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens...

Christopher Nolan’s Next Movie Revealed as ‘The Odyssey’
Image
The speculation over Christopher Nolan’s next movie has come to an end. Universal revealed Monday that Nolan will adapt The Odyssey, the epic poem from Homer that follows Odysseus’ journey home after the Trojan war.

“Christopher Nolan’s next film ‘The Odyssey’ is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology,” said the studio. “The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.”

Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron star in the feature.

Nolan has delved with period pieces before, including best picture winner Oppenheimer, which told the story of the creation of the Atomic Bomb, and The Prestige, an adaptation of Christopher Priest’s novel centering on two rival magicians amid the backdrop of 1890s London.

But The Odyssey is a...

Guy Pearce reveals why he swerved starring in big budget studio movies
Guy Pearce swerved starring in big budget studio productions as he hates being “told what to do” by executives “afraid to lose their jobs”.The ‘Memento’ actor, 57, has spent decades starring in indie films, with his last franchise blockbuster part in 2013’s Marvel movie ‘Iron Man 3’.He has now told GQ why he has steered clear of the likes of superhero movies: “The process of it felt way too big for me. I can’t make (sense of) this idea of studio films where you just get told what to do by people afraid to lose their jobs. “I remember there were discussions at the beginning about how I was going to look. “A couple of the executives say, ‘No, he’ll just cut his hair and he’ll just do this and he’ll do that’. “And I’m in the room going, ‘Hello?’ “I’m immediately feeling like...
