Praise from a movie veteran like Steven Spielberg has to be more than anything an actor can wish for. After doing his most recent film, The Fall Guy, Ryan Gosling got the stamp of approval from the legendary director.

David Leitch’s The Fall Guy is an action-packed comedy with elements of thrill to complement the narrative starring Gosling and Emily Blunt. One of the strongest characters to come out of Avatar: The Last Airbender was the General of the Fire Nation and former heir to the throne, Iroh. Serving as a kindhearted, funny, and wise mentor figure to Zuko, the Prince of the Fire Nation and his nephew, the character soon endeared himself to all the viewers.
Uncle Iroh and Zuko
There is no doubt that Iroh is one of the strongest characters in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender, but the show has alluded to his power multiple times, even when he is not fighting in a combat situation. The character is very spiritually attuned, something that usually indicates how powerful a character is in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Iroh could be as strong as the Avatars themselves

Massive Entertainment released a new patch today for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandar. The new update 3.2 brings a few improvements and technical changes, the most notable being the addition of a 40 Fps mode.
Previously, Frontiers of Pandora came with 30 Fps and 60 Fps modes on all platforms, which allowed players to choose between performance or graphics as per their preference. The new 40 Fps mode will offer a middleground for players who want better visual experience without compromising too many framerates. This mode is only available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for now.
The developers have added support for Intel XeSS Super Sampling, which will make PC players happy. Intel’s technology helps non-rtx graphics cards push out Dlss-like visuals given the hardware supports. However, the new Avatar update has also “temporarily rolled back” support for Amd FSR3 for reasons unknown.
Additionally, the 3.2 patch also enables Fast Travel to Research Station...

Avatar: The Legend of Korra and its predecessor Avatar: The Last Airbender draw a lot from real-world politics for a kid’s show. Dealing with issues like genocide, propaganda, and war, it is not a surprise that the show took inspiration from real-world political figures to talk about the themes it explores in its sequel series, The Legend of Korra.
Amon, from The Legend of Korra
There is a particular reading of the villain for the first season of Legend of Korra that equated him with Joseph Stalin, the leader of the former Ussr. The similarities between their philosophies, which focused on the democratization or eradication of unequal social structures is something that fans have pointed out, with Amon’s goal being towards equality, which manifested in him taking away bending from benders.
Amon’s idea of equality might have had a lot in common with Stalin’s ideas of communism

In the original show, Aang and Katara end up being together. However, fans have often wondered, if it was the plan to begin with, following the undertones in her and Zuko’s bond. Despite starting off on the wrong foot by living on opposite sides of the war, Katara did eventually start to see good in Zuko, but the original show never overtly inclined towards establishing a romantic bond.
But with the live-action series moving forward for two more seasons, the showrunner of the first season refused to indulge if the show will expand upon their bond.

In Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s case, showrunner Albert Kim clarified that instead of translating the animated series to the small screen as it is, they’re aiming to be true to the show’s spirit.

This article contains mild spoilers for Shōgun and major ones for The Last Samurai.
A lonely Westerner who seems lost before he even steps off his ship; a strange land filled with ritualized grace and deadly niceties; and a culture shock that is both intoxicating and intimidating—even before our stranger sees the samurai masks and katana blades come out. This could very well be a description of the odyssey which English seaman John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis) finds himself on in FX’s astonishing new limited series, Shōgun. Yet I’m actually describing a popular Tom Cruise vehicle loosely set in the same aesthetic: The Last Samurai.
Released in December 2003 to positive reviews and impressive box office (back when adult-skewing dramas could regularly net $454 million at the world box office), director Edward Zwick’s The Last Samurai was applauded in its time for its pensive soulfulness and kinetic action sequences.

Avatar: The Last Airbender introduced the world to a very creative way to work with a classic magic system: the four classical elements. The bending arts are some of the most well-conceived parts of Avatar: The Last Airbender. However, despite not being able to bend, one of the breakout characters of the show was Sokka.

Jack and Rose’s tragic romance in Titanic is considered to be one of the greatest love stories. James Cameron’s epic disaster film was known for its amazing practical and visual effects but has become a modern classic due to Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet’s acclaimed performances as the leading couple.
Though Cameron’s ambitious project runs over three hours, the filmmaker still had some deleted scenes on the cutting room floor. One of these scenes saw Jack and Rose singing ‘Come Josephine’ after their Irish Dance at the third class section. Fans were quick to notice that the song was hummed by the duo at different points in the film, including its heartbreaking ending.

When it comes to power-packed action thriller movies, weapons are mandatorily used. Guns are widely used in such movies, especially in Hollywood. A few days ago, James Cameron commented on using too many guns for The Terminator. The Avatar director said he would not do something like this in today’s time. Now, Predator director John McTiernan has revealed details about using too many guns in one of the scenes in his 1987 movie.
The sci-fi action thriller stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as Major Alan ‘Dutch’Schaefer, Carl Weathers as Al Dillon, Elpidia Carrillo as Anna Gonsalves, Bill Duke as Master Sergeant Mac Eliot and others. James Cameron has backed a new UK film studio and said it could act as a base for his technology training center, but the £750M ($927M) Marlow Film Studios still requires a planning greenlight and is proving controversial in its local area.
According to the Financial Times, the triple Oscar-winner has written to Buckinghamshire Council in support of the plans in the past few weeks and said it could be a potential UK and European base and training centre for Lightstorm3D, a company Cameron has set up to develop tools and technology for movies.
Cameron said the 22.5% of global box office the UK delivered in 2023 will “grow as a result” of Marlow, which is in Buckinghamshire, South East England.
“But embracing that opportunity necessitates support and boldness in thinking,” the Ft reported Cameron wrote. “The next iteration of screen storytelling requires a purpose-built working space of exceptional quality, and trained professionals.

When Disney purchased the 20th Century Fox library in 2019, it caused some consternation among cineastes. The Fox catalog was vast and impressive, containing tons of indelible classics and even more titles waiting deep inside the studio's archive. 20th Century Fox was formed in 1935 and quickly became one of the "big five" studios that dominated the film industry for decades. Fox hadn't seen a shake-up this dramatic since 1985 when ultra-conservative media mogul Rubert Murdoch bought a controlling share of the company from Marvin Davis.
When Disney made its purchase, many film fans wondered if Fox's old classics would be made more widely available through the about-to-launch Disney+. When the streaming service debuted with a paltry 500 titles, cineastes were aghast. Why buy all those Fox titles if you're not going to distribute them?

Acting in a Marvel movie is not easy, for the actors pretty much are supposed to act against a green screen with imaginary characters. The fan expectations and pressure coupled with the monotonous set environment add to the troubles, and hence, many actors describe having a terrible time shooting Marvel flicks.

Dave Bautista, who starred as Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers movies, described how different the process is while filming an MCU flick. Dallas Liu’s Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation has already shown us how the actor can handle CGI fire, and that puts the character in the running for a host of pyrokinetic characters across media. [Editor’s Note: this list was originally published in November 2017. It has since been updated with Snyder’s further work to coincide with the release of “Rebel Moon — Part Two.”]
Zack Snyder is possibly the most polarizing mainstream filmmaker of the 21st century. His name alone is enough to launch a thousand angry tweets, and the most passionate writing about his work is exclusively found in the comment sections of websites or as social media replies. Snyder’s critics really seem to hate him, and Snyder’s fans really seem to hate his critics. At this point, a Marvel / DC movie crossover might be a lot more plausible than finding any sort of common ground between those two camps. Is Snyder a master or a hack? They also mentioned one major constraint that the team faced while making the episodes, and how they approached it as an opportunity to be creative rather than look at it as a problem.

James Gunn has advised Joe Manganiello to consider moving on from his role in the Dceu. The 47-year-old actor portrayed Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke, in Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe, making brief appearances in both Justice League and The Snyder Cut. He was also slated to star in Ben Affleck’s canceled Batman film.
Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke in Justice League
Apart from that, there were talks of a potential standalone Deathstroke movie, for which Manganiello even had a screenplay prepared. Despite DC Comics’ interest in the screenplay, Gunn suggested he let go of any potential plans for the character.
James Gunn Convinced Joe Manganiello to Move On from Deathstroke
With James Gunn rebooting the DC Universe with Chapter One: Gods & Monsters, the possibility for Joe Manganiello to reprise his role as Deathstroke has been less. However, the actor still had hopes for introducing an origin story for the DC villain.

Zack Snyder is all set to release the second part of his space opera magnum opus Rebel Moon. The Netflix film is the follow-up to last year’s Chapter 1 – A Child of Fire. The filmmaker has had a busy few years after helming large-scale blockbusters such as Army of the Dead and Justice League.
While Snyder has worked with many A-listers, he reportedly got a call from the legendary star Tom Cruise early in his career while he had just finished 300. The actor reportedly gave him a surprise call after the film opened big at the box office. Cruise was also reportedly Snyder’s first choice to play Ozymandias in his divisive Watchmen adaptation.

The Avatar franchise is on its way to making a comeback, with multiple properties rumored to be in production. This involves the Earth Avatar series and a film that would follow the adult version of Aang and his friends from the original animated series.

However, the show and the film were supposed to release in 2025. While updates on the earth-bending Avatar are yet to be revealed, the movie starring the adult Gaang recently released its cast, where Dave Bautista is expected to play the chief antagonist. However, the film has been delayed to January 2026, which might be sad news, but fans are more than happy with the delay for one reason.

Exclusive: Warner Bros Pictures has acquired Shannon Messenger’s bestselling book series Keeper of the Lost Cities, with Emma Watts set to produce.
Messenger’s series focuses on Sophie, a telepathic girl who must figure out why she is the key to a world that exists side by side with our own. She must do this before dark forces find the answer first, putting both worlds in jeopardy.
With nine installments and over 7 million copies sold worldwide so far, Messenger continues Sophie’s saga with the next installment, Unraveled, which will be published on November 12, 2024.
While the former production topper at Fox and Paramount has been in the mix for several of the big jobs in the past few years, it is easy to see how Watts can flourish in the role of producer of a literary property with franchise potential for Warner Bros. As an executive, she has shown a great eye for material,...

The histories of the four nations have been well explored in the world of Avatar, but there seems to be more to discover. Bryan Konietzko and Micahel Dante Dimartino, creators of the story, had a lot more to explore in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender. This was especially true when it came to the confirmation of the relationship between Korra and Asami Sato, which was not only cemented by a Tumblr post by Konietzko but was also explored in the 2018 comic book continuation of The Legend of Korra, Turf Wars.

Disneyland cast members who work in the amusement park’s shows, parades and visitor meet-and-greets are a step closer to unionizing: Actors’ Equity Association has filed an election petition with the National Labor Relations Board for union recognition.
Equity will serve as the bargaining representative for Disneyland’s Parades and Characters departments. The employees and the union announced the Nlrb filing today.
In a statement, Equity President Kate Shindle said, “The Cast Members who bring the Characters and Parades to life have been non-union since Disneyland Resort opened in the 1950s and have watched other workers in the park unionize all around them. Just eight weeks after Equity launched a campaign seeking union authorization cards, we have signatures from a supermajority of those eligible.”

Yesterday Disney got a boost forward with their Disneyland expansion called DisneylandForward after the Anaheim City Council approved their proposal. This allows Disney to move forward with their plans over the next four decades.
It is important to note that this is just the first vote, and it took eight hours to reach a 7-0 agreement. The proposal still needs a second vote in May for final approval.
The meeting allowed citizens of Anaheim to speak, and 84 did, with 57 of them in favor of the project, which is said to bring almost $2 billion in upgrades to Disneyland and the areas surrounding it. Anaheim will get over $100 million in benefits from the Walt Disney Company for infrastructure upgrades and repairs to sustain the project. Disney will also be giving the city $30 million for affordable housing and another $8 million for city parks.

Remakes have been a part of Hollywood since time immemorial, and even though film enthusiasts are absolutely over it, it doesn’t seem like they are going to stop anytime soon. The fan-favorite The Blair Witch Project is next in line as Lionsgate and Blumhouse are all set to revive the franchise. The 1999 horror film still remains one of the most terrifying films that Hollywood has to offer, and if the remake wants to stand a chance against it, the creators are going to have to give it their all and then some.
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
Unfortunately, things are already not looking too good for the remake as it has been revealed that the original creators behind The Blair Witch Project are not linked to the remake in any shape or form. In fact, they were not even aware of the project before it was announced at CinemaCon 2024.

Avatar: The Last Airbender, as a franchise, is always deliberate with every decision that is made. A character’s backstory, design, bending, techniques, and even their alliance, all have a part to play in the grand scheme of things. A design made by creators, Michael Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko, to perfectly fit their grand puzzle.
Aang and Katara
Knowing this, there are many decisions made that fans find difficult to assign meaning to. In situations like these, the creators lend a hand in exposing the intention behind why things were made the way that they were.

Broadcast TV saw a 6% usage decline from February to March, accounting for just 22.5% of viewing. Year-over-year, broadcast viewing has fallen 4%, according to Nielsen’s monthly report, The Gauge.

Sports cable viewing was up 43% in the month of March, according to Nielsen, which also notes that the women’s NCAA tournament had a larger impact on viewership than it usually does.

Avatar: The Last Airbender has an entire variety of characters who lie on the moral spectrum. Some are morally white while others are blinded by their goals. Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the most critically acclaimed series of all time. Not only does it have stellar fan reviews from all sides, it also has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. One of its most commended aspect is its immersive world-building. Not only are the dynamics between factions excellently well-thought-out, but the powers and bending as a concept are truly one of a kind.
Aang in Avatar: The Last Airbender
Knowing just how magnificent the power structure is, it is surprising to find out that the original plan that the network had was a lot different. Nickelodeon seemed to be aiming for a ‘magic and action’ series, something that could have easily doomed the animated series before it was even released.

Aardman Academy Pacts With New Zealand’s Canterbury University for Stop-Motion Animation (Exclusive)
New Zealand’s University of Canterbury has signed a five-year exclusive agreement with the Aardman Academy, the training arm of the Aardman Animations, the British film and TV studio behind “Wallace and Gromit” and “Shaun the Sheep.”
The agreement enables the Christchurch-based university to become the only educational institution in New Zealand to specialize in Aardman’s unique version of stop-motion animation. It has the potential to upend the country’s animation industry.
The Aardman Academy was created at a time when the studio urgently needed more animators to produce “Chicken Run.” Released in 2000, the film went on to become the highest-grossing stop-motion film of all time. The Aardman Academy has since trained hundreds of world-class animators, directors, model makers and other specialists.
Training will be offered to animation students studying for the university’s Bachelor of Digital Screen with Honours degree. And it creates the opportunity to receive training...

Shogun has skyrocketed to the top of the streaming ratings, a little over a month since its initial two-episode release, with millions of views in its first week.
This wasn't an easy feat considering the debut success of other FX or Hulu hard-hitters, such as The Bear, The Handmaid's Tale, and The Great.
Immediate comparisons to Game of Thrones were inevitable, given the show's heavy political intrigues set in 17th-century feudal Japan.
As with most popular debuts that delve heavily into cultures foreign to our own, some critics pointed to the white savior trope, drawing lines between Shogun and Dances with Wolves, The Last Samurai, and even Avatar.
Fortunately, those lines failed to meet reality.
The sympathetic, apologetic nature of the white savior plot doesn't stand up to scrutiny within Shogun's carefully constructed mimicry of real-life Japan in the 1600s.
The attention to detail is bar none, with creators...

Avatar: The Last Airbender has a vast and complex world. When such an expansive story is created, it is only natural that some plot holes are left uncovered. On the other hand, sometimes fans try to find connections in places that the creators would have never thought of, changing how the fandom looks at the series.
Aang and Sokka in Avatar: The Last Airbender
The Legend of Korra, although a spin-off of the 2005 series, stands on its own and has very few connections to the original series. However, fans believe that they have found a very big connection between the two shows.

Of all the characters in the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe, perhaps the saddest character with the most heartbreaking story that fans just can’t help but fall deeply in love with is none other than Aang. Yet, the debate about the character with the most painful story still rages on, with fans comparing him to another fan-favorite character: the Fire Nation royal Zuko.
Zuko and Aang in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
But while both of these characters have incredibly heart-wrenching stories where each faced the heartbreak of losing the very thing they cherished, there is one very subtle detail that makes Twinkle Toes’ (as Toph calls him) story even sadder than his rival’s. And as nuanced as this fact may be, it is enough to make all those Sifu Hotman stans shut up.

Building on this, you’ve probably heard that there are plans for a live-action adaptation of the manga, which isn’t all that surprising seeing how there is a live-adaptation craze currently in the West, mostly helped by Netflix’s more or less successful live-action adaptations, such as One Piece and Avatar.

We may not know if there will be a Barbie 2, but Ryan Gosling is all in for a sequel to “Papyrus.” What’s “Papyrus” you ask? Only one of the greatest runaway skits on Saturday Night Live of the past decade. For those unfamiliar, the instant fan favorite saw an increasingly obsessed Gosling going absolutely insane over Avatar using the Papyrus font for its title card. And now, in his third SNL hosting gig, Gosling has revisited it, bringing us the gift of “Papyrus 2”…and now we totally need a feature length adaptation.
“Papyrus 2” catches up with Gosling’s character, Steve, years after the events of the first one as he still tries to cope with the fact that Avatar used such a by-the-books font, only to be consumed yet again by it. But when he sees that The Way of Water has updated the font, he sees hope in...

In 2017, Ryan Gosling starred in "Papyrus," a "Saturday Night Live" sketch about Steven, a man fixated on the issue of our time: "Avatar," one of the most expensive and successful movies ever made, used the basic Papyrus font for its logo. Surely the graphic design team had resources to experiment more? To get to the bottom of this conspiracy, Gosling's character takes to stalking one of them.
The joke at the heart of "Papyrus" is how it's made in the style of a prestige drama, from the heavy violin score to the dramatic car crash. Gosling, a true movie star with a talent for committing to the bit (watch him perform "I'm Just Ken" from "Barbie" live at the Oscars), acts with deepest sincerity in "Papyrus."
The sketch caught on so much that even "Avatar" director James Cameron eventually commented on the use of Papyrus (his response: "I like the font"). Well,...

In a fight between Ryan Gosling and the Avatar title fight, we stand firmly on Gosling’s side. Six years ago, Gosling hosted the SNL season premiere and starred in a skit that, to date, has been viewed 22 million times online. In the skit, Gosling played Steven, a man obsessed with the decision to use the Papyrus font on Avatar‘s title.
Now we finally know why Gosling’s character would care so much about something so insignificant.
Ryan Gosling killed it hosting the April 13, 2024 SNL episode – easily the best of the season – and brought back his Papyrus-hating character in an SNL online exclusive. “Papyrus 2” finds Steven in therapy and determined to avoid any triggers. Unfortunately, his dentist decided to use Avatar 2 as a way to distract his clients, leaving Steven no choice but to watch it during his appointment. He’s stoked to see that the title’s...

After much anticipation, the sequel to the 2017 sketch “Papyrus 2” has finally emerged despite being cut for time during the live broadcast, making its debut on YouTube.
The original sketch was conceived by former “SNL” writer Julio Torres, who was inspired by a past tweet in which he mused, “Every day I wake up and remember that Avatar, a huge international blockbuster, used the Papyrus font for their logo, and no one stopped them.”
Directed by Dave McCary (who also shot the previously pointed Torres sketch “Wells For Boys” with his now-wife and current collaborator Emma Stone), this meditation on obsession and a questionable font became the logo for James Cameron’s massive franchise.
Gosling recalled the (alleged) decision-making process of choosing the font papyrus for the blockbuster, in the past sketch, “Like a thoughtless child just wandering by a garden, just yanking leaves along the way.” Eventually, his character would...

Ryan Gosling’s return as Saturday Night Live host allowed for the actor to appear in some sequel sketches, including reuniting with Kate McKinnon in an alien abductee support group and, perhaps more notably, reprising his role as a man haunted by the Avatar font.
The first “Papyrus” originally aired in 2017 when Gosling hosted the Season 43 premiere. In the sketch, Gosling starred as someone who was overly tormented by the fact that Avatar — a billion dollar box office movie with a seemingly unlimited budget and a franchise then on the...

It has been hailed as one of the most memorable Saturday Night Live videos of the past decade. During his second turn as host in 2017, Ryan Gosling headlined a video titled Papyrus in which he plays a man obsessed by the fact that James Cameron’s blockbuster Avatar used Papyrus, a common letter style, for its logo. The skit has raked in 12M views on YouTube alone.
In his return for his third hosting stint this week, Gosling revisited the SNL classic with Papyrus 2, which was released online after the episode’s airing on NBC.
In the latest, Gosling is triggered when, while watching Avatar: The Way Of Water during dental surgery, he notices the title of Cameron’s sequel and initially believes it doesn’t use the font. But he later realizes that the style still is Papyrus because the designer “just put it in bold.” That sets the...

When it comes to the most iconic leads to grace the silver screen, one can’t leave Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley out of the equation. While the Alien IP has witnessed several installments since its inception in ’79, the first two releases remain the franchise’s peak, often considered some of the most important contributors to the sci-fi landscape.
So it’s unsurprising to see why most hold one of the first two as one of their favorites from the iconic IP, and when Weaver was asked about her favorite one, she was quick to answer.
Aliens is Sigourney Weaver’s Favorite in the Franchise Aliens (1986)
From Ridley Scott delving into the more horror element with the first film, and James Cameron exploring more of its sci-fi aspect with the sequel, both films are considered great in their own right. But While Sigourney Weaver holds massive admiration for Scott, when...
