Floyd makes himself at home
scottie_stanley5 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Whether it's eating a banana while enjoying the music or being upset if the burgers burn, Floyd forgets he's a hostage and just enjoys himself. I love this episode, probably my favorite along with Punch In The Nose ( which also revolves around Floyd and Barney). " You better phone him Al"

One of the best written, directed and acted episodes of the entire series. I literally laugh my head off every time it comes on. Floyd and Barney are absolutely hilarious with these "hardened criminal" dames, and their interactions are priceless.

Al and Bernie
trrsb21 April 2020
This is without a doubt the best episode of the best show every to have been seen on American Television. It combines classic humor from the two greatest characters on the show with an almost insane group of women that seem to add just the right mix of craziness to the plot. The two standout scenes are when Floyd nonchalantly batons his Banana on the couch, wonderfully oblivious to the goings on of being held hostage, and when Sally notices that "Al" (Barnie or Bernie) has "changed" when his burger is not as she expects it. Perfection in script and cast perfectly performed for a perfect show.

Andy Griffith Show at its best
modestybarebone1 September 2018
This episode is golden, all three women are funny and work wonderfully with Floyd and Al. Jean Carson is great with her gravelly voice.

My favorite episode of my favorite series.
tweiss-6736831 August 2021
Floyd was wonderful here, as well as was Jane Dulo and Jean Carson. But the real magic of this show was the incredible chemistry between Barney and the very gifted and underrated Reta Shaw, who was finally given a roll that really revealed what she was capable of. She and Barney had other shows together, but none compared to this awesome one.

Another interesting thing about this episode is that Andy was not a major character. He was seen at the beginning, and then not again until halfway through, and then again at the end.

Just plain funny.

Warning: Spoilers
Very often, "The Andy Griffith Show" had plots that really weren't all that funny for a comedy. That's because they were important for character development and despite this, most were quite good. However, on occasion, the show simply made an episode that is comedy from start to finish--and this is clearly one of those funny shows.

Barney and Floyd are on their way to do some fishing. On the way, they hear about three escaped female prisoners but don't think much of it. However, moments later they are captured by the three (Big Maude, Jalene and Sally) and the amazons threaten to shoot them unless they do exactly what they tell them! Seeing Barney and Floyd later being treated like sex objects by these women (who obviously haven't seen a real man in years) is awfully funny. Naturally, after Barney and Floyd use their masculine wiles on the 'ladies', it's up to the ever-helpful Andy to show up and save the day in a cute little dancing scene.

Funny from start to finish, seeing Howard McNair and Don Knotts carry an episode was a treat--particularly because the women they cast really created a wonderful situation for the two to be their silly best.

Favorite episode

By a mile this is my favorite episode of the series. Barney and Floyd are held hostage by three female convicts . Barney and Floyd make a good comedy team in this one. The three women add to the humor as well.

Without going into it too much the episode requires the full comedic talent of Don Knotts and he delivers big time!

The Best One Ever!

Love this episode, it makes me laugh the entire 30 minutes! It goes to show you that comedy written 60 some years ago is still truly funny today. Plus the extra bonus is one of the "fun girls" is in this episode.

Hard episode to watch
sbutler07272 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This is a particularly hard episode to watch because this is the final episode before Howard McNear ("Floyd") had his stroke. Howard never walked again on screen after this episode. Howard was always shown seated or was discretely propped up after this episode. Sad. Despite this, this is a pretty funny episode. Floyd and Barney are both hilarious in this episode. Of course Andy comes in at the end to save the day. Floyd of course gets all the credit!! That is a riot. If you can get past knowing what is going to happen to Howard after this, this episode is pretty funny. It is amazing what Andy and the staff did for Howard after this episode and how they hid his handicap. Of course now, everyone knows the story.

On of the Funniest/Floyd Is an Idiot!
Hitchcoc5 December 2019
When Floyd and Barney run out of gas as they pass through a woods, they go to the cabin of a rich man. He is away, but during this time three female convicts tke over the place. This brings the two guys into the arms of these sociopathic women. What transpires is hilarious. We think of Barney as being stupid, but Floyd takes it to a new level. Don't miss this one.

Acting isn't Relevant

Some of this episode is REALLY implausible, but that is totally forgiveable given the entertainment value. It's a scream from start to finish. For those who don't care for the heartfelt, heart tugging (and wonderful) episodes, here is a special treat.

Pure zany, brilliant comedy.

Wonderful performances by "Big Maude" (Reta Shaw), Naomi (Jean Carson), and Sally (Jane Dulo). The 5 main actors made comic history in the cabin with one classic line after another. This one always was a family favorite to view and reminisce about. The dance scene with Barney & "Big Maude" is one for the ages. Reta Shaw will return as Barney's hysterical voice coach. Very funny epilougue again. I can't imagine anyone having one negative comment about this stellar episode.

One of the best !!

Floyd is at his best !!! Making himself right at home, eating a banana.

Then, Floyd, takes credit for recapture with his large picture in Mayberry newspaper. Barney as usual gets bear red.

10/10 Don Knotts and Howard McNear are amazing
kchiefs129 September 2022
One thing I never understood was why weren't more episodes written showcasing these two comedic geniuses?

These two together produced the best episodes with the biggest laughs. Underutilized by the show's producers.

Adding the women convicts made this an all-time television episode, not just for TAGS but television in general. Classic comedy.

The dance scene is oure comedy gold!

A MUST see for anyone who has watched this series. This is generally the first episode I show kids who have never watched TAGS because it really hooks them on the show.

So many hilarious bits in this episode. Calling Barney "Al" was just too funny.

10/10 episode. No flaws.

Actually funny for a change.

They mention the lack of gas but a little reality would be nice. You don't cook anything rare, you STOP cooking it while it's rare. If Mr O'Malley has lots of money he must enjoy hand pumping water and an outside toilet. Everybody else around Mayberry has running water.
