Augustine Chacon (1861-1902) was hanged on a scaffold that had been constructed in 1897 for an earlier death sentence. Burton Mossman (1867-1956) became captain of the Arizona Rangers when they were formed in March 1901. He resigned (at his own request) in July 1902, shortly before he captured Chacon on 4 Sep 1902. He became a businessman in Bisbee, Arizona Territory, and later a cattle rancher near Roswell, NM. Burt Alvord (1867-after 1910) had been a lawman from 1896 to 1899, often chasing Chacon. Inexplicably, he became an outlaw, and formed a gang with men he had previously pursued. Billy Stiles (1871-1908) was also a lawman before teaming up with Alvord to rob trains. Around 1903, he briefly became an Arizona Ranger before returning to banditry. He left the United States, but returned and went back into law enforcement.
