- The Doctor: [talking about firing a missile at 10 Downing street] That's the thing. If I don't dare, everyone dies.
- Rose Tyler: Do it.
- The Doctor: You don't even know what it is. You'd just let me?
- Rose Tyler: Yeah.
- Jackie Tyler: Please, Doctor, please, she's my daughter, she's just a kid.
- The Doctor: Do you think I don't know that? 'Cause this is my life, Jackie - it's not fun, it's not smart, it's just standing up and making a decision because nobody else will.
- Rose Tyler: Then what are you waiting for?
- The Doctor: I could save the world but lose you.
- General Asquith: Under the jurisdiction of the Emergency Protocols, I authorize you to execute this man!
- [hear guns cocking, all point at the Doctor]
- The Doctor: Ah, well now, yes, you see, the thing is, if I were you, if I was going to execute someone by backing them against a wall, between you and me, a little word of advice:
- [elevator bell dings, doors slide open]
- The Doctor: don't stand them against the lift!
- [steps backward; closes the doors with his Sonic Screwdriver, smiling]
- Slitheen: Who are you, if not human?
- Harriet Jones: Who's not human?
- Rose Tyler: He's not human.
- Harriet Jones: He's not human?
- The Doctor: Can I have a bit of hush?
- Harriet Jones: Sorry.
- The Doctor: [to Slitheen]
- The Doctor: So what's the plan?
- Harriet Jones: [in soft voice, to Rose] But he's got a Northern accent!
- Rose Tyler: [just as soft] Lots of planets have a North.
- The Doctor: I said hush!
- Slitheen: Aaaaahhh, Excuse me? Your device will do what? Triplicate the flammability?
- The Doctor: Is that what I said?
- Slitheen: You're making it up!
- The Doctor: Oh well, nice try. Harriet,
- [offers Harriet Jones the decanter]
- The Doctor: Have a drink. I think you're gonna need it.
- Harriet Jones: You pass it to the left first.
- The Doctor: Sorry.
- [hands it to Rose]
- The Doctor: Right! If we're gonna find their weakness we need to know where they're from. Which planet. So judging by their body shape that narrows it down to about 5,000 planets in travelling distance. Now what else do we know? Information!
- Rose Tyler: They're green.
- The Doctor: Yep, Narrows it down.
- Rose Tyler: Good sense of smell.
- The Doctor: Narrows it down.
- Rose Tyler: They can smell adrenaline.
- The Doctor: Narrows it down.
- Harriet Jones: The pig technology.
- The Doctor: Narrows it down.
- Rose Tyler: The spaceship in the Thames; you said slipstream engine.
- The Doctor: Narrows it down.
- Mickey Smith: [cut to Mickey facing the door; Sip Slitheen knocks out the mail slot] It's getting in!
- [see Sip cutting through the door with his claw]
- Rose Tyler: They hunt like it's a ritual.
- The Doctor: Narrows it down.
- Rose Tyler: Wait a minute! Did you notice when they fart, if you'll pardon the word, it doesn't just smell like a fart, if you'll pardon the word, it's something else. What is it? It's more like, um...
- Rose Tyler: Bad breath.
- Harriet Jones: That's it!
- The Doctor: Calcium decay. Now that Narrows it down!
- Rose Tyler: We're getting there, Mum!
- Mickey Smith: Too late!
- [Sip Slitheen growls, see the door cracking apart]
- The Doctor: Calcium phosphate. Organic calcium. Living calcium. Creatures made out of living calcium. What else - what else? Hyphenated surnames. Yes! That narrows it down to one planet! Raxacoricofallapatorius!
- Mickey Smith: [sarcastically] Oh yeah, great! We can write 'em a letter.
- [to Mickey]
- Jackie Tyler: You saved my life. God, that's embarrassing.
- Mickey Smith: You're telling me!
- The Doctor: Fascinating history, Downing Street. 2000 years ago, this was marshland. 1730, it was occupied by a Mister Chicken - he was a nice man - 1796, this was the Cabinet Room. If the Cabinet was in session, and in danger, these were about the four safest walls in the whole of Great Britain. End of Lesson.
- [hits a switch, activating steel safety doors]
- The Doctor: Installed in 1991, 3 inches of steel lining every single wall. They'll never get in.
- Rose Tyler: But how do we get out?
- The Doctor: [nods] Ah.
- [about to die]
- Slytheen: Oh boll...
- The Doctor: [Looking at the huge back-pack Rose is carrying] Got enough stuff?
- Rose Tyler: The first time I stepped in there it was spur of the moment.
- [tosses the back-pack at the Doctor, which he's forced to catch]
- Rose Tyler: Now I'm signing up.
- [pointing at him]
- Rose Tyler: You're stuck with me. Hah!
- [laughs]
- Rose Tyler: [phone rings; display reads 'TARDIS Calling'] Hello?
- The Doctor: Right. I'll be a couple of hours, and then we can go.
- Rose Tyler: You've got a phone?
- The Doctor: You think I can travel through space and time and haven't got a phone?
- [scoffs]
- The Doctor: Like I said, couple of hours - I've just got to send out this dispersal - there ya go - that's canceling out the Slitheen's advert in case any bargain hunters turn up.
- Rose Tyler: Um... my mother's cooking.
- The Doctor: Good! Put her on a slow heat and let it simmer.
- Rose Tyler: She's cooking tea. For us.
- The Doctor: I don't do that.
- Rose Tyler: She wants to get to know you.
- The Doctor: Tough. I've got better things to do.
- Rose Tyler: It's just tea.
- The Doctor: Not to me it isn't.
- Rose Tyler: She's my mother.
- The Doctor: She's not mine!
- Rose Tyler: That's not fair!
- The Doctor: Well, you can stay there if you want. But right now there's this plasma storm brewing in the Horsehead Nebula. Fires are burning, ten million miles wide. I could fly the Tardis right into the heart of it, then ride the shock wave all the way out. Hurtle right across the sky, and end up anywhere. Your choice.
- Andrew Marr: [reporting from outside Downing Street] We're getting even more new arrivals.
- [the first arrival gets out of his car]
- Andrew Marr: That's Group Captain Tennant James of the RAF, though why he's been summoned, we've no idea.
- [Another man makes his way towards the door into 10 Downing Street]
- Andrew Marr: And that's uh, Ewan McAllister, Deputy Secretary for the Scottish Parliament.
- [a third arrival walks towards the door]
- Andrew Marr: And this is most unusual. That is Sylvia Dillaine, Chairman of the North Sea Boating Club. Quite what connects all these people, we've no idea.
- Jackie Tyler: What does he eat?
- Rose Tyler: How do you mean?
- Jackie Tyler: I was going to do Shepherd's Pie. All of us. Proper sit-down. 'Cause...
- [clears throat]
- Jackie Tyler: I'm ready to listen. I want to learn about you and him and that life you lead. Only, I don't know, he's an alien! For all I know, he eats grass and safety pins and things.
- Rose Tyler: He'll have Shepherd's Pie.
- [pauses]
- Rose Tyler: You're going to cook for him?
- Jackie Tyler: What's wrong with that?
- Rose Tyler: He's finally met his match.
